PAULA JUNE RIECKERS SCHEIDERER
Paula June Rieckers Scheiderer, 75, of Milford Center died Friday, July
30, 2004, after an extended illness.
She was born June 12, 1929, in Seymour, Ind., to the late E.W. and
Martha Hanck Rieckers and was predeceased by a sister, Flora Rieckers
Burns and her husband, Roland K. Scheiderer whom she married July 16,
1949, at St. John's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children, John D. (Paula K.) Scheiderer of
Milford Center, Sheila J. (Scott) Steckel of Galena and Kevin P. (Jayme)
Scheiderer of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Summer (Brian) Phelps, Drew
Scheiderer and Ashley Scheiderer and her fiance, Nick Hodges;
step-grandchildren, Michael, Rachel and Joshua Dannenhauer;
great-grandchildren, Jenna and Brice Phelps; a brother, Roger
(Geraldine) Rieckers of New Iberia., La.; two sisters, Rhoda (Gene)
Blumenschein of Milford Center and Judith (John) Walkup of Marysville;
numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Margie Patman,
Margaret Tormoehlen and Ruth Ann Lippencott.
She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. She was retired
from Memorial Hospital of Union County, serving as manager of the
Milford Center site of the Mobile Meals program, and was a longtime
volunteer at the gift shop. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran
Church, St. John's Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League
and Rainbow Garden Club.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's
Lutheran Church. The Rev. Thomas Hackett will officiate and burial will
be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
today at the Ingram Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Union
County Cancer Society or St. John's Lutheran Church in care of the
funeral home.

OLEMA M. COON
Olema M. Coon of Columbus, 82, died at The Gables at Green Pastures
Nursing Home Friday, July 30, 2004.
She was predeceased by her husband, John S. Coon.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty L. (Gary C.) James; grandchildren,
Angela and John; and great-granddaughter, Peyton Christine.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Jerry Spears
Funeral Home, 2693 W. Broad St. and burial will be at the Byers Cemetery
in Jackson County. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

BETTY MARIE EAGLESTON TOSSEY
Betty Marie Eagleston Tossey, 73, of Marysville, formerly of New Dover,
died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Doctors Hospital West in Columbus.
A beautician for 52 years and a loving wife, she was highly devoted to
her family and enjoyed feeding hummingbirds, fishing, bingo and her
pets. She was a 1948 graduate of New Dover High School and completed
cosmetology school in Columbus. She first worked as a beautician with
Marge DeGood at Belva Ewing's beauty shop on East Fifth and Walnut
streets. Later, she operated her own beauty shop at home until she
opened Betty's Beauty Shoppe in 1966 at the corner of Fourth and Court
streets. Upon her retirement, the shop became known as Shear
Expressions, operated by Sherie Noble and Deanna Fee, and she continued
to work part time. She was also a beautician at Heartland of Marysville
and Carriage Court. Despite acquiring diabetes in 1978 and having a
heart attack in 1984, she maintained an active schedule in cosmetology
and kept up with her grandchildren's ball games.
She was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Delaware County to the late Dennis and
Claudia May Shroats Eagleston and was predeceased by her stepfather, Leo
Fleck.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gene R. Tossey whom she
married Jan. 7, 1951, at her family home in New Dover by the Rev. George
Reed; a son, Tim (Saundra) Tossey of Waverly; a granddaughter, Jennifer
(Eric) Tossey-Zoldak of Raymond; a grandson, Brett (Christina) Tossey of
Broadway; five great-grandchildren, Maggie and Kacey Huffman, Savannah
Dickinson, Brandon Zoldak and Paul Tossey; a stepsister, Patricia Eddy
of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Becky Evans of Marysville; an aunt
and uncle, Sis and Harold Shroats of Chicago; her mother-in-law, Clymena
Wagner of Columbus; and many other relatives and friends, including Kay
Schultz of Marysville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Underwood
Funeral Home and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call
from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

JUDY ANN DAUM PHIPPS
Judy Ann Daum Phipps, 61, of North Lewisburg died Thursday, July 29,
2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
A 1962 graduate of Fairbanks High School, she was a homemaker and was
devoted to her family. She enjoyed flower gardening, taking snapshots of
loved ones and the company of her dog, Lacey. She was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed.
She was born May 5, 1943, in Columbus and was predeceased by her mother,
Lena Thompson Daum in 2002; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Don
and Gertrude Phipps.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jimmie Dale Phipps whom she
married July 3, 1969, at Trinity Lutheran Church; her father, Earnest
H.P. Daum of Huntsville; two sons, William (Jodi) Phipps of St. Paris
and Michael (Stephanie) Phipps of Marysville; three grandchildren,
Kirsten, Alex and Ainsley; two brothers, Ernest E. (Shirley) Daum of
Florida and Larry (Linda) Daum of West Mansfield; four brothers-in-law,
Gene (Nancy) Phipps and Terry (Karen) Phipps of Marysville, Danny
(Patti) Phipps of Raymond and Don Allen (Cathleen) Phipps of Zanesfield;
two uncles, Jack (Esther) Thompson of Unionville Center and Manuel Daum
of Marysville; three aunts, Mary (Albert) Mabe of Powell, Patty Daum of
Marysville and Carolyn Daum of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.

CLAUDE CHAPMAN
Claude Chapman, 48, of Plain City died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 28,
2004, at his residence.
He was employed by Arched Casings of Plain City and was an extremely
talented musician who enjoyed writing and playing music in his home
recording studio. He spent many hours on his 1932 Fort T Bucket and was
very proud of his home remodeling.
He was born Nov. 6, 1955, in Columbus and was predeceased by his father,
Luther Chapman in 2001.
He is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Martin) Spanhel of the Czech
Republic; two granddaughters, Darian and Natalia; his stepfather and
mother, Frank and Ruby Parsley Decker of Grove City; his maternal
grandmother, Irene Parsley of Orient; a sister, Linda (Dan) Colvin of
Plain City; two nieces, Daniella Wolgemuth and Amy Walker; a nephew, Ben
Colvin; two great-nephews; and four great-nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ferguson Funeral
Home in Plain City. Pastor Howard Schmitt will officiate and burial will
be at Concord Cemetery in Grove City. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m.
Sunday.

SCOTT F. "COWBOY" CHIARELLO
Scott F. "Cowboy" Chiarello, 44, of York Center, formerly of Florida and
New Jersey, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 25, 2004, at his home.
He was a roofer and enjoyed bull riding, singing, watching NASCAR,
riding motorcycles and being outdoors. He was a talented artist.
He was born July 14, 1960, in Ridgewood, N.J. and is survived by his
father, Paul Frank Chiarello of Florida and Nancy Mulbarger Chiarello of
Marysville; his wife, Jeanie M. McDonough whom he married June 25, 1983,
in Coral Springs, Fla.; three children, Jessica Leigh, Caitlin Murphy
and Casey Joseph Chiarello of the home; a brother, Paul Frank Chiarello
of Marysville; and two sisters, Sheri (Gary) Kitson of Florida and
Stacey (Jon) Basiliadis of Marysville.
The Rev. Thomas Hackett will officiate at a celebration of life service
to be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

VERNA MOSHER IVES
Verna Mosher Ives of Marysville died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the
Arbors at Delaware.
She grew up in Greenwich, N.Y., lived in Ticonderoga, N.Y., from 1953 to
1978 and then lived in Kissimmee, Fla., where she also spent her winters
while living in Union County for the past 11 years. She was a retired
bookkeeper for the Ticonderoga Sentinel newspaper, a member and Past
Worthy Matron of Ashlar Chapter OES in Greenwich and a member of the
Mountain-Doers Western Square Dance Club in Port Henry, N.Y., the Wagon
Wheels and Buttons and Bows Western Square Dance clubs and the Round
Dance Club of St. Cloud, Fla. She was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Kissimmee and was a volunteer at Kissimmee Humana
Hospital for 10 years with 10,000 hours of service. She was an animal
lover and was fond of gardening and flowers.
She was born in Easton, N.Y., to the late Edward and Mary Hildage Mosher
and was predeceased by her first husband, August Foss in 1977; by her
second husband, Clarence Ives; and a son, August E. Foss.
She is survived by her husband of 11 years, Donald Graham; a daughter,
Nancy Alexander of Sandwich, Mass.; eight grandchildren; ten
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three
step-children; four step-grandchildren; and three
step-great-grandchildren.
There will be no local services. A committal service and burial will be
held at a later date in Greenwich.

FRANCES KATHRYN "KIT" WIBLE BURGER
Frances Kathryn "Kit" Wible Burger, 91, of Marysville died Tuesday, July
27, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
She was retired as a clerk at the Plain City Post Office after 25 years
of service and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid
and the Book Club. She studied music at Capital University and played
the violin and piano.
She was born May 28, 1913, in Irwin to the late James Frank and Clara
Seel Wible and was predeceased by two brothers, Glenn Wible and John
Wible and three sisters, Helen Violet, Grace Gorton and Marian Wible.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Edward Burger whom she married
April 4, 1945, in Marysville; five children, Anne Kathryn (James)
Scheiderer of Milford Center, George (Rita Black) Burger of Marysville,
William (Dawn) Burger of Irwin, Laura (James) Paluch of Plain City and
Mary Alice (Jerry) Carpenter of Irwin; 13 grandchildren, Robert (Nancy)
Scheiderer, David Scheiderer, Joe (Meredith) Scheiderer, Tammy Kathryn
(Ron) Hunt, Edward (Laura) Burger, Philip Burger, Christopher (Unmi
Defibaugh) Burger, Benjamin Wible (Melissa) Burger, Hope Burger, Daniel
(Nikki Rainwater) Paluch, Kathryn Paluch, Angela LaPat and Aaron
(Jackie) Carpenter; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb and Evan Scheiderer,
Ryan Hunt, Hannah Burger, Molly, Harley and Presley Burger, Andrew Lapat

EDDIE H. "BUB" SISSON
Eddie H. "Bub" Sisson, 59, of Marion died Monday, July 26, 2004, at
Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
A 1962 graduate of Radnor High School, he was employed for 39 years with
the Whirlpool Corporation in the maintenance department as a masters
control technician. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969 and was
a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. An
avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, firearms, camping and
boating. He was a resident of Marion for 34 years and had lived in
Delaware the previous 25 years.
He was born Oct. 31, 1944, in Delaware to the late Clarence H. and Helen
Congrove Sisson and was predeceased by two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Clara M. Layman Sisson whom he married Aug.
13, 1976, in Marion; a son, Thomas W. Sisson of Columbus; a daughter,
Christina M. (Randy) Sisson-Gay of Waldo; two brothers, Gene (Florence)
Sisson of Columbus and Don (Wanda) Sisson of Marysville; and a sister,
Ruth Ann "Abby" (Charles) Mason of Waldo.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Boyd Funeral Home,
122 W. Columbia St., Marion. Pastor John Trumble will officiate and
burial will be at the Radnor Cemetery where military rites will be
conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council. Friends may call from 2

CLARA BELLE WILLIAMS FRENCH
Clara Belle Williams French, 73, of Marysville, formerly of Gahanna,
died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family
following an extended illness.
She was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother.
She was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Columbus to the late Sterling and
Margaret Spencer Williams and was predeceased by three brothers and
three sisters.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Robert F. French Sr.
whom she married May 22, 1947, in Obetz; three daughters, Janet Miller
of Marysville, Brenda Welle of Largo, Fla., and Tina Lowery of
Marysville; a son, Robert F. (Jodie) French Jr. of Hopewell; eight
grandchildren, Misty (Joe) Roberts, Dan (Sara) Miller, Christina (Ed)
Rausch, Douglas Adams, Candie (Bob) Lanier, Mark "Adam" Lowery, Trisha
Lowery and Stephanie French; four great-grandchildren, Joey, Nikki,
Jesse and Cassidy; a brother, Donald Williams of Black Canyon City,
Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Norma Williams of Hilliard; a brother-in-law,
Earl (Mary) French of Pataskala; several nieces and nephews; special

CHERYL ANN KINCAID LEFEVRE
Cheryl Ann Kincaid LeFevre, 46, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of the
Peoria-Raymond area, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Dallas Presbyterian
Hospital following an extended illness.
She had been employed as a systems administrator with Southwest Airlines
in Dallas and her career had allowed her to live in several other
states. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints and completed an 18-month mission trip to Scotland
from 1978-1980. She was a 1976 graduate of Marysville High School,
received an associate degree from Columbus State and completed her
bachelor's degree in Florida. She was a passionate genealogist.
She was born Oct. 31, 1957, in Marysville to Newman E. and Erma Mae
Lockwood Kincaid and was predeceased by her father on Ocxt. 3, 2002.
She is survived by her mother of Washington C.H.; her husband, Byron
LeFevre whom she married Oct. 9, 1987, in the Washington Temple; five
brothers, Terry (Gretchen) Kincaid of Washington C.H., Ron (Mary)
Kincaid of Columbus, Don Kincaid of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Newman
Earl (Belinda) Kincaid of Whitehall and Wesley Myrl (Chris) Kincaid of
Marengo; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Raymond
Cemetery.

KATHRYN JOAN "KATHY" GAUCHAT
Kathryn Joan "Kathy" Gauchat, 45, of Marysville died unexpectedly
Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
A beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, she had formerly worked as
a nurse aide at Milcrest Nursing Center and had recently been employed
with Burger King at the Shell Gas Station.
She was born Oct. 11, 1958, in McKeesport, Pa., to Allen O'Hara and Mary
Appleby and was predeceased by her father, a brother, John O'Hara; and
her father- and mother-in-law, Gerard and Edith Gauchat.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Mary and Gary McKinley of
Marysville; her husband of nearly 24 years, Ronald Gauchat whom she
married Sept. 29, 1980, in Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Cristy Gauchat
of Columbus; a son, Michael Gauchat of the home; two sisters, Pam O'Hara
of Oakland, Calif., and Roxanne (Carl) Lowe of Raymond; a brother,
Gerard (Rachel) Gauchat of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters-in-law, Susan
Adair of Canyon Country, Calif., Karen Spencer and Donna (John) Chapon
of Lorain and Anita (Jim) Naulty of Cleveland; two brothers-in-law,
Donald (Carol) Gauchat of Las Vegas and Pete Gauchat of Middleburg;
three aunts, Grace (Leon) Adams of Carlinville, Ill., Yvonne Skalsky of
Disputanta, Va., and Ruth (Ed) Bowers of West Mifflin, Pa.; an uncle,
Harold (Laverne) Appleby of Powder Springs, Ga.; and many nieces and
nephews, including Brandy, Brenna, Eugene and Brady.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the
Mannasmith Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Allen will officiate and burial
will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to the time
of the service.

SALLY A. WATERS
Sally A. Waters, 70, of Columbus died Sunday, July 18, 2004.
She was a 1952 graduate of Marysville High School and attended Bowling
Green State University. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star in Marysville and the DAR. She retired after 26 years of devoted
service to the Hilliard City Schools where she served as a secretary to
the treasurer.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rink and Kate Worthington; a sister,
Madeline; and a brother, Bill Worthington.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Eugene Waters; a daughter,
April Waters of Dublin; nieces and nephews and their families, Marsha
Worthington Edwards, her husband Roger and their children, Jordan and
Emily Edwards, Jeff Worthington, his wife Carla and their children,
Trey, Trenton and Crystal, Angie Worthington Osborne, her husband Damon
and their children, Cameron and Boston Osborne, Jay Bonar, his wife
Ronda and their children, Kyle and Katelynn Bonar, and Scott Waters, his
wife Cheryl and their son Jake; and a host of relatives and friends.,

MICHELLE LYNN CLARK
Michelle Lynn Clark, 26, of Columbus died unexpectedly Monday, July 19,
2004, at her home.
She touched many people and their hearts with her eyes and smile and
will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her grandfather, Ralph Price and grandmother,
Shirley Clark.
She is survived by her loving parents, Gerald and Beverly; her
grandmother, Lela "Mommom" Price; brothers and sisters, Roger (Lana)
Clark, Tracey (Shawn) Kaeser, Christopher (Stacy) Clark and Kimberly
Clark; nieces, Maggie, Rachel and Hannah; nephews, Aaron, Connor, Joshua
and Ethan; special friend Lorie Miles; special brother, Taloren; and
aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel, 515 High St.,

NANCY LOU KENNEDY
Nancy Lou Kennedy, 64, of North Lewisburg died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at
The Gables at Green Pastures.
She was retired from Sprint and was a member of the Sprint Pioneers Club
Region 2 and District, Communication Workers of America where she was a
past president and held many other offices, Buckeye State Chapter IATP,
Indiana Telephone Pioneer Association and County Culture Club of which
she was a past president. She received the Regional 2 John Knox Johnson
Award and helped to organize, holding all offices and remaining active
in the Pioneer Club through the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. She was a
member of the Middleburg United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday
School for many years and was a representative for the church at the
Methodist Church Conference. She volunteered at The Gables at Green
Pastures and made afghans for Appalachian families.
She was born Jan. 6, 1940, in North Lewisburg to Robert and Hazel E.
Poling Kennedy and was predeceased by her father.
She is survived by her mother of North Lewisburg; a sister, Judith (Dan)
Adrian of Marysville; a brother, Robert (Kathy) Kennedy of Raymond; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Middleburg United
Methodist Church. The Rev. Mebane McMahon will officiate and burial will
be at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg. Friends may call from 2
to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

MABEL IRENE COE LILLY
Mabel Irene Coe Lilly, 91, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Marysville,
Wash.
She served as a specialist S in the U.S. Navy during World War II and
worked for many years at the downtown Lazarus Department Store in
Columbus.
She was born Feb. 26, 1913, near Mechanicsburg to the late James
Franklin and Carrie Leach Bowers Coe of Milford Center and was
predeceased by four sisters, Laura Mildred Coe Holycross of Milford
Center, Marie Helen Coe Brown of Marysville, Osie Martha Coe Torbert of
Lakeland, Fla., and Anna Ruth Coe Cordell of Mechanicsburg; and a
brother, Ernest Everett Coe of Ostrander. She married Henry James "Bob"
Lilly of Millersport July 26, 1952, in Fairfield County and he died Feb.
3, 1958.
She is survived by a daughter, Jannine Lilly Weaser of Marysville,
Wash.; two grandsons, Phillip John O'Herron II of Lake St. Louis, Ill.,
and Michael Angelo Castaneda III of Lake Stevens, Wash.; a
great-granddaughter, Isabella Rain O'Herron of Lake St. Louis; two

CHARLES J. CARTER
Charles J. Carter, 63, of Marysville died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at his
residence surrounded by his loving wife of 43 years, Beverly, and their
children.
He was the owner of Carter's Lawn and Garden in Marysville for 25 years
and had retired in 1983 from Whirlpool after 18 years of service. He was
active in many Masonic organizations, including the Union County Shrine
and the Cans for Kids program for Shrine Hospitals. He was a member and
past Patron of Mary Chapter No. 9 OES, member of Palestine Lodge No. 158
F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine and Union
County Shrine Club of which he was a past president. During his term as
president of the Union County Shrine Club, he was awarded the membership
award by the Aladdin Temple and the meritorious service award from the
Union County Shrine. An avid motorcyclist, he was a member of the AMA
for 30 years.
He was born in Marion County Nov. 13, 1940, to Stanley and Violet
Conklin Carter and was predeceased by his father; a brother, Martin; a
sister, Carol; and his father-in-law, Russell Flowers.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Flowers Carter to whom he was
married Dec. 23, 1961, at the Unionville Center United Methodist Church
by the Rev. Buster Hammond; his mother of Milford Center; a son, Gene
(Debra) Carter of Marysville; a daughter, Dawn (Bobby) Tipton of
Broadway; five grandchildren, Tyler and Erin Carter, Jennifer and Robert
Arm and Samantha Tipton; a sister, Donna (David) Silva of Charlotte,
N.C., his mother-in-law, Doris F. Flowers of Unionville Center;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judith and Leland Walk of Marysville
and James and Cindy Flowers of Unionville Center; five nieces; three
nephews; a step-niece; and a step-nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral
Home. The Revs. Ron Payne and Wayne Engle will officiate and burial will
be at the Unionville Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday with Order of Eastern Star and Masonic memorial services to be
held at 7:30 p.m.

BURL J. MAYER
Burl J. Mayer, 81, of Plain City died Friday, July 16, 2004, at The
Gables at Green Pastures.
He moved to Plain City Jan. 1, 1957, from Marysville and was a lifetime
member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Marysville and a longtime member
of the Plain City Lions Club. He enjoyed raising black Angus cattle,
farming and fishing on Lake Erie.
He was born Jan. 17, 1923, near Watkins to the late Albert and Flora
Kasper Mayer and was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Baby Weeks
in 1984; a sister, Elda Mayer Lyons in 1990; and a brother, Alvin Lee
Mayer in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dormalee Andrews Mayer; a son,
Andrew Burl Mayer of Plain City; a daughter, Ann (Roger) Weeks of Plain
City; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann "Bethany" Weeks and Jennifer
Weeks; two sisters, Doris (Dick) Graham of Columbus and Betty Davie of
Zanesfield; a brother, Emerson (Kay) Mayer of Columbus; numerous nieces
and nephews; and a special friend of the family, Peggy Graf.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ferguson Funeral
Home. The Rev. Thomas Hackett will officiate and burial will be at
Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7

MARVIN C. TWIGG
Marvin C. Twigg, 82, of Marysville died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at The
Gables at Green Pastures following an extended illness.
A very capable man, he owned and operated Twigg's Greenhouse for more
than 50 years with his wife and was retired following 16 years of
service with the Grounds and Maintenance Department of O.M. Scotts. He
was a graduate of Oldtown High School in Oldtown, Md., received his
bachelor of science and master of science degrees from the University of
Maryland and earned his Ph.D. in horticulture from the Ohio State
University. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of
World War II. He especially enjoyed his work and reading.
He was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Oldtown, Md., to the late Michael C.S.
and Rosa B. Huff Twigg and was predeceased by a sister, Buelah Lewis and
two brothers, James "Jim" Twigg and Roy Twigg.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Mary Turner Twigg
whom he married Sept. 6, 1952; three daughters, Marvena Elizabeth Twigg
of Upper Arlington and Mary Michaela (Bruce) Limes and Marina Faye
(Brian) Vincent of Marysville; eight grandchildren, Clint (Danielle)
Twigg, Jonna Twigg, Carri Twigg, Michael, Melissa and Daniel Limes and
Rayne and Chelsea Vincent; four great-grandchildren, Joey, Elizabeth,
Dustin and Alex; a sister, Mabel Millison of Cumberland, Md.; two
brothers, Wayne Twigg of Cumberland and Bernard "Pete" (Jean) Twigg of
College Park, Md.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close family
friend, John King of Columbus.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

RONALD E. CRAMER
Ronald E. Cramer, 68, of Marysville died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at
Heartland of Marysville after a brief illness.
He was a retired truck driver  for General Medical Company.
At his request, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be
at the Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center at a later date. The

LEE B. FOWLER
Lee B. Fowler, 86, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Marysville, died
Friday, July 16, 2004, at the home of his son, Paul Fowler, in Richwood
after a lengthy illness.
A member of the O.M. Scotts 20-Year Club, he retired in 1982 after 39
years with the company. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene
where he served as a Sunday School superintendent and was affiliated
with the church since its beginnings on South Maple Street. He attended
the Winkler Road Baptist Church in Fort Myers. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Army and served in Germany during World War II. He enjoyed lawn
work, gardening and traveling.
He was born May 8, 1918, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Harry Couch
and Nancy Ann Flora Fowler and was predeceased by his first wife, Gladys
Gay Gowin Fowler on May 29, 1987; two sisters, Sylvia Byers and Carrie
Rife; two brothers, John and Worthy Fowler; a step-great-grandchild,
Mariah Haish; and two brothers-in-law, Robert and Jesse Gowin.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Meredith Eileen Lowe Fowler whom
he married July 10, 1993, at the Marysville Church of the Nazarene; a
son, Paul D.L. (Lana Goddard) of Richwood; a step-daughter, Rebecca
Patterson of Missouri; two stepsons, Robert Kaufman of West Virginia and
Kenneth (Emily) Kaufman of Cedarville; three grandchildren, David
(Carrie) Fowler of Virginia, Kathleen (Marc) Silverstein of Maryland and
Victoria (Kevin) Endicott of Prospect; five great-grandchildren,
Courtney, Taylor, Spencer, Alexis and Logan Lee; six step-grandchildren,

JOHN ARTHUR HERZOG
John Arthur Herzog, 76, of Upper Arlington died of pancreatic cancer
Friday, July 16, 2004, at his home.
He retired after 20 years as treasurer of George Byers Sons, Inc. He was
a 1946 graduate of Piqua Central High School and a 1953 graduate of the
University of Dayton and was a member of Northwest United Methodist
Church, Capital City Lodge No. 656 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of
Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine and the York Golf Club. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army and served in Italy as a surgical technician from 1946
to 1949.
He was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Piqua to the late Arthur William and Alma
Lawton Rase Herzog and was predeceased by his brother, George Bernard
Herzog; a granddaughter, Courtney Jo Wertz; and his father-in-law,
Harley T. Knoop.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis June Knoop Herzog whom
he married Sept. 8, 1951, at First Presbyterian Church in Sidney; two
daughters, Barbara (Randy) Early of Upper Arlington and Judith (Daniel)
Wertz of Centerville; four grandchildren, Jacob and Kaitlin Early and
Trevor and Nathan Wertz; his mother-in-law, Agnes E. Knoop of Sidney; a
brother-in-law, Charles L. (Nancy) Knoop of Upper Arlington; a
sister-in-law, Shirley Herzog of Piqua; three nephews, Michael L. Herzog
of Piqua, William T. Knoop of Phoenix, Ariz., and Peter J. Knoop of

Jeffrey Starks, 46, of Raymond died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, as a
result of an accident while riding his bicycle in Marysville.
He was a home inspector, United Way Volunteer, member of the NAACP, ACLU
representative and student at Marion Technical College. He had worked at
the former Parker Hanifan plant in Green Camp.
He was born May 29, 1958, in Marion to Lee W. and Margaret L. Todd
Starks and was predeceased by his father and two brothers, Gerald and
Tommy.
He is survived by his wife, Lasonya Shaw-Burgess Starks whom he married
Dec. 24, 1989; his mother of Raymond; two sons, Joshua Starks and
Jeffrey Starks II; five daughters, Tamekia, Latavia, Ciera, Adelaide and
Rebeckah Starks; three brothers, Lee A. Starks of Marion, Gregory L.
Starks of Richwood and Teddy D. Starks of Columbus; a sister, Maxine
Corley of Columbus; and two stepbrothers, Rick Williams and John Collins
of Columbus.

BETTY M. JEREW
Betty M. Jerew, 78, of Tiffin died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 13, 2004,
at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
She was retired from Kmart in Marion and Columbus. She was of the
Methodist faith and had recently attended the United Church of Christ in
Tiffin. She enjoyed crocheting and reading and loved her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
She was born Dec. 7, 1925, in Marysville to the late Arthur Houston and
Imogene Wolford King and was predeceased by two sisters and two
brothers. She married Glen Edward Jerew June 20, 1942, and he died March
10, 2001.
She is survived by a son, William Edward "Ed" (Caroline) Jerew of Upper
Sandusky; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers,
Melvin King of Orient, Clyde King of Lewisville and Omer King of
Richwood and Bernard Robinson of Marysville; and a sister, Irma Jean
Fancey of Marysville.

VIRGINIA M. "GINNY" ALEXANDER GRIMES
Virginia M. "Ginny" Alexander Grimes, 72, of Marysville died Wednesday,
July 14, 2004, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She retired in 1980 after 19 years of service with the Nestle Company.
She was a member of the Marysville First United Methodist Church and was
a former coach, scorekeeper and player with the Stocksdale Dollarettes.
She was a devoted and loving grandmother who was very active and
involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She
inspired many with her unselfishness and caring.
She was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Marysville to the late Everett L. and
Freidabelle Baker Alexander Sr. and was predeceased by a daughter, Lori
Jane, and two brothers, Everett L. Alexander Jr. and Robert E.
Alexander.
She is survived by her husband, Loren E. "Shine" Grimes whom she married
Aug. 3, 1951, at the Marysville First United Methodist Church; two
daughters, Lynn (Glen) Heard of Raymond and Lisa (Duane) Miller of
Urbana; a son, Larry (Sherri) Grimes of West Mansfield; grandchildren,
Jason Heard, Jodi Sheets, David and Shane James, Lucas, Lance, Levi and
Lauren Grimes; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Walker and Lincoln Heard and
Shelby and Gracie Mae Sheets; step-grandchildren, Keisha Hunt and Kris

PEARL THACKER PROFFITT
Pearl Thacker Proffitt, 88, of Marysville, formerly of Raymond, Plain
City and Cardington, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at her home.
A homemaker, she attended the Raymond Church of Christ in Christian
Union. She had a great fondness for country living and especially
enjoyed embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, shopping and
traveling to visit her family.
She was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Black Creek, Va., the oldest of eight
children of the late Andy and Dora Belle Thacker and was predeceased by
four brothers, Ed, Paul, Raymond and Jessy Thacker; and three sisters,
Virginia Preter, Ruby Ball and Gracie Utter. She married John W.
Proffitt Oct. 16, 1936, and he died Jan. 19, 1998.
She is survived by six daughters, Ethel Marie (Ron) Holcomb of Acton,
Calif., Juanita (Bud) Postlethwaite of Hookstown, Pa., Thelma (Bill)
Harris of Arizona and Georgia (Bill) Nickelson, Ruby Hoffine and
Caroline Wilson Salyers of Marysville; five sons, Sidney (Sue) Proffitt
of Bellefontaine, Donald (Barb) Proffitt of Canyon Country, Calif., Jack
Proffitt of Bridgeville, Pa., Wayne (Terry) Proffitt of Chatsworth,
Calif., and R.J. Proffitt of Marysville; 24 grandchildren; 41
great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Mary

Jean Norviel, 76, of West Liberty died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at
Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana.
She retired as a secretary at O.M. Scott and Sons and was a member of
the Middleburg United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking
and was a champion pie baker for Logan County.
She was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Union County to the late Truman and
Florence McKitrick Lowe.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack Norviel; a daughter,
Ann (Jim) Spain of Middleburg; three grandchildren, Amber (Shannon) King
and MaryAnn (Dan) McGill of West Liberty and Krista (Jonathan) Winn of
Akron; four great-grandchildren, Mya, Elijah, Carson and Naomi; two
brothers, Richard (Jane) Lowe and Donald (Warrenetta) Lowe of
Marysville; a sister, Ruth Simpson of Richwood; and several nieces and
nephews.

RUTH M. PIERSON
Ruth M. Pierson, 84, of Worthington died Monday, July 5, 2004, at
Riverside Methodist Hospital.
She was a 1937 graduate of Marysville High School and a longtime member
of Bethel United Methodist Church in Columbus. She enjoyed reading,
playing bridge, flowers and cooking and baking for her family and
friends. She loved her family and was delighted in their
accomplishments. Her family and friends were always buoyed by her great
spirit and her enthusiasm for life.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, William R. "Bill"
Pierson and a brother, Allen Bump.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue (Lynn) Elfner of Delaware; a son,
David W. (Janet) Pierson of Columbus; four grandchildren, Angy (Byron)
Zalenski, Amy (James) Sordi, Nathan (Jenn) Elfner and Elizabeth Pierson;
two great- grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Ruth) Bump of Tiffin.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home

JANE "JEAN" CULLEN WILSON TAYLOR
Jane "Jean" Cullen Wilson Taylor, 81, of West Mansfield died Sunday,
July 11, 2004, at the home of her daughter with her loving family at her
side.
A loving homemaker and minister's wife, she was a devoted mother and
grandmother and was the beloved matriarch of her family. A faithful
member of the Church of the Nazarene, she had also been a member of the
Evangelical Friends Church in North Olmsted, Bellefontaine and Van Wert
where her husband had been a pastor. She enjoyed knitting, reading and
working crossword puzzles and especially enjoyed spending time with her
family.
She was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Glasgow, Scotland, to the late Matthew
Salson and Mary Grant Wilson. She married the Rev. Dr. Philip Evan
Taylor March 26, 1948, and he died Sept. 7, 2000.
She is survived by three daughters, Gail (Roy) Grider of Mokena, Ill.,
and Valerie (Christopher) Davis and Deborah (Mark) Mills of West
Mansfield; two sons, Richard (Brenda) Taylor of West Mansfield and
Maynard (Ronlynn) Taylor of Darwin, Australia; 11 grandchildren, Scott
Grider, Stephanie (Joel) Newsham, Taylor Mills, Jared Mills, Richard
(Dawn) Taylor, Robert Taylor, Jennifer (Dave) Maurer, Kimberly Taylor,
Sierra Hawkins, Nikki Tullis and Katie and Clair Lindsey; three
great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Smith of Canada; two
brothers, Richard Wilson of Scotland and William (Chris) Wilson of
Toronto, Canada; a brother-in-law, David (Irene) Taylor of Burry Port,

Leah Elizabeth Bingham-Cross, newborn infant daughter of Erica Marie
Bingham and Oaschia York Cross of Marysville, died Wednesday, July 7,
2004, at the Ohio State University Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents; maternal grandparents, Cathy Bingham of
Marysville and Michael Bingham of Pensacola, Fla.; paternal

JOY LEE FOUGHTY CONKLE
Joy Lee Foughty Conkle, 62, of Marysville died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at
her home surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with
cancer.
She retired in February 1999 as executive secretary to the warden of the
Ohio Reformatory for Women after working for the state of Ohio for more
than 28 years. She was a member of the Marysville Church of the Nazarene
and a life member and past president of VFW Post 3320 Auxiliary. She was
active in fundraising events for Loving Care Hospice and Children's
Hospital and enjoyed interacting with her grandchildren, especially at
ball games and on family vacations. She graduated from Jefferson High
School in Adams County in 1959 and attended business school in Columbus.

She was born July 12, 1941, in Adams County to the late Freeman M. and
Carrie Ellen Stamper Foughty and was predeceased by her first husband,
Danny Dean Keiber and a niece, Kimberly Hicks.
She is survived by her husband, Jim H. Conkle whom she married Sept. 23,
1983; two daughters, Kimberly (Tim) Morley of Gahanna and Susan
(Preston) Kriel of Marysville; four grandchildren, Michael Oiler, Austin
Morley, Olivia Kriel and Zachariah Kriel; a brother, Freeman "Red"
(Angie) Foughty of Bellefontaine; a sister, Dottie Foughty of Ripley;
three brothers-in-law, John (Nancy) Howard and Clyde (Teresa) Hicks of
Marysville and the Rev. Roy (Mary) Burton of Milford Center; nieces and

Violet Humble, 93, of Marysville, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Milcrest
Nursing Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Marysville.
She was born June 24, 1911, in Mill Creek Township to the late Pearl and
Viola Bice Herriott and was predeceased by her husband, Monford A.
Humble; a son, Robert A. Humble; a grandson, Robert Humble; and a
great-granddaughter, Laura James.
She is survived by a son, Everett (Janet) Humble; grandchildren, Doris
Humble of Columbus, Deb (Alan) Herd of Raymond, Everett (Billy Jo)
Humble II of Broadway and Steven Humble of Delaware;
great-grandchildren, Nathan Vanover, April Dean, Aaron Humble and Todd
Burkard; a great-great-granddaughter, Macey Vanover; a daughter-in-law,
Pat Humble; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SILAS SLONE
Silas Slone, 76, formerly of Pharisburg died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in
Riverview, Fla., with his family at his side.
He was employed as a foreman at General Castings in Delaware for 28
years and attended Freedom Assembly Church in Gibsonton, Fla.
He was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Harlan, Ky., and was predeceased by a son,
Dolever "Buck" Slone and two grandchildren, Jerry and Jamie Slone.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Combs Slone; four children,
Rose Smith of Richwood, Jeanette (Rick) Eades of Raymond and James
"Cotton" Slone and Kenny Slone of Riverview; a daughter-in-law, Sallie
Slone of Magnetic Springs; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and
countless friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Hopewell Cemetery at 4 p.m.
Saturday. David Hudson will officiate.

 

GLORIA MAXINE WEBB
Gloria Maxine Webb, 76, of Marion Manor died Wednesday, July 7, 2004.
She was a homemaker and a health care giver for residents of her
community. She was a volunteer for the Richwood Emergency Squad and a
member of the Essex United Methodist Women.
She was born March 31, 1928, in Delaware to the late Lester and Iris
Manley. She married Royal Owen Webb July 2, 1946, in Greenup, Ky., and
he died Sept. 17, 1999, after 53 years of marriage.
She is survived by 11 children, Wayne Manley, Monty Webb, Debbie
Webb-Shelton and Leslie Webb of Marion, Pam Lambert, Kay Krawczyk and
Dennis Webb of Richwood, Keith Webb of Findlay, Sandy Hammond of Kenton,
Connie Barton of Escatawpa, Miss., and Sonja Horn of Mount Solon, Va.;
24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ballinger Funeral
Home in Richwood. The Rev. Bryan Lauzau will officiate and burial will

WINIFRED ARLETTA "WINNIE" HODGES LOWE
Winifred Arletta "Winnie" Hodges Lowe, 88, of Marysville, formerly of
Dover Township, died Friday, July 9, 2004. at the Gables at Green
Pastures.
Affectionately known as "granny" to relatives and close friends, she was
a hardworking homemaker and a caregiver to many ill relatives and
friends. She was a longtime member of Springdale Baptist Church where
she served for many years as a representative for the Northern Baptist
Association conference at Denison University. She was also a Sunday
School teacher and was a member and past president of the American
Baptist Women.
She was a former member of William Street United Methodist Church in
Delaware where she served as president of the United Methodist Women's
Society and for which she received a lifetime membership pin. She was a
member of the Memorial Hospital of Union County auxiliary where she was
a volunteer for mobile meals and patient care. She also was a volunteer
for Jane Case Hospital (now Grady Memorial) in Delaware. She was a
member of Kings Daughters Circle and the Delaware Advance Club.
She was a graduate of New Dover High School and proudly played on the
school's women's basketball team. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting,
knitting and quilting and was known as a wonderful pie baker.
She was born July 30, 1915, in Dover Township to the late Watterman
Maxwell and Lettie Ann Hanawalt Hodges and was predeceased by her
husband, Arthur D. Lowe on Feb. 24, 1978; an infant brother, Robert
Eugene; two brothers, James and Charles Hodges and a foster
granddaughter, Julie Marie Jensen.
She is survived by two daughters, Meredith Eileen (Lee) Fowler of Ft.
Myers, Fla., and Patricia Arletta (Raymond Schriner) Lowe of Little
Hocking; a son, Chester Max Lowe of Sarasota, Fla. Also surviving are:
eight grandchildren, Rebecca Patterson, Robert Kaufman, Kenneth Kaufman,
Jacqueline Bailey, Jeffrey Lowe, James Lowe, Arletta Lynn Bowman and
James Bowman; 12 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; a
sister-in-law, JoAnn Hodges of Marysville; and many other relatives and
friends including Bill (Tomia) Lowe of Marysville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Underwood Funeral Home
where the family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. T

JOHN V. JOHNSON
John V. Johnson, 87, of Milford Center, formerly of Plain City and Upper
Arlington, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union
County.
He worked with the Fredonia Seed Company, Mutual Benefit Life Insurance
Company and two companies he formed, Johnson-Scott Company and Pension
Plans Inc. He served as a lieutenant junior grade from 1942 to 1945 in
the South Pacific during World War II and as commander of an LST from
1950 to 1952 during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter and golf
enthusiast and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He was a member of
Jerome United Methodist Church and First Community Church of Upper
Arlington and was active in the Couples Circle of both churches
beginning in 1957. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University.
He was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Defiance to the late Earl and Lula South
Johnson; two brothers, Virgil Johnson and Robert Johnson; a sister,
Velma Stuckey; and on Feb. 9, 2000, by his wife, Virginia Powell
Johnson.
He is survived by three sons, Jerome E. (Linda) Johnson of Dublin,
Douglas S. (Nancy "Maggie") Johnson of Grove City and Frederick B.
(Jane) Johnson of Marysville; four grandchildren, Juni (C.J.) Frey of
Frankfort, Jill (Hernan) Ramirez of Weston, Fla.; and Ben Johnson and
Alex Johnson of Marysville; step-grandchildren, Christi Cornell and
Micki Cornell of Columbus; and a great-grandson, Jordan Wayland of
Frankfort.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jerome United
Methodist Church, 10531 Jerome Road, Plain City. The Rev. Gloria Brooks
will officiate and burial will be at the Jerome Township Cemetery where
military honors will be conducted by the Union County Honor Guard.

LEROY H. WOLFF
LeRoy H. Wolff, 89, of Marysville died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at
Heartland of Marysville after an extended illness.
A lifetime farmer, he was a hard-working man and a dedicated and loving
husband and father. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church
and had served as a trustee of the church. He graduated from Union Rural
High School in 1933 and had been an active and proud volunteer with
Mobile Meals since 1982. He served on the Union County Fair Board for 12
years, was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Dairy Association and for
eight years was affiliated with the North Central Egg Co-op. He enjoyed
vegetable gardening and his life on the farm and especially enjoyed his
family.
He was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Milford Center to the late William C. and
Anna Kandel Wolff. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Lawrence
Scheiderer and a sister- and brother-in-law, Christine and Alfred
Boester.
He is survived by his wife of more than 63 years, Irene E.R. Scheiderer
Wolff whom he married June 1, 1941, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church; a
daughter, Janet (Mike) Wiley of Hawthorne, N.J.; a son, Earl L. Wolff of
West Liberty; two grandsons, Todd (Suzanne) Wiley and James (Fro) Wiley;
a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Wiley; a brother, Lester (Martha) Wolff
of Milford Center; two sisters-in-law, Helen Scheiderer and Leila
Scheiderer of Marysville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran
Church. The Rev. Jay Decker will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale

DONALD REYNOLDS WERNTZ
Donald Reynolds Werntz, 83, of Upper Arlington died Monday, July 5,
2004, at Whetstone Care Center after an extended illness.
He graduated from William Penn Charter High School in Philadelphia and
received a bachelor's degree in history and political science from
Guilford College in 1946. He then earned a master's degree in history
from the University of North Carolina in 1948 and a Ph.D. in history
from the Ohio State University in 1953. He worked as a research engineer
at North American Rockwell Corporation for 15 years before becoming the
owner of the H&R Block franchise in Marysville which he operated for the
last 35 years. He enjoyed playing tennis with his friends at Northam
Park for many years and was an avid contract bridge player.
He was born March 31, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Cecil and
Margaret Reynolds Werntz and was predeceased by his first wife, Marie
Gallagher Werntz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Elizabeth Beresh Werntz;
a stepson, Terrence P. Specht of Columbus, "grandchildren," Jordan and
Molly Kotick; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Schoedinger
Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, and burial will be at
Union Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.

ALVIN LEE "PEE WEE" MAYER
Alvin Lee "Pee Wee" Mayer, 74, of Raymond died unexpectedly Sunday, July
4, 2004, in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
A lifetime farmer, he valued the independence of being his own boss and
truly appreciated his work. He was a 1947 graduate of Raymond High
School where he played basketball and football and he served in the U.S.
Army in Germany from 1956 to 1958. He enjoyed building and flying model
airplanes, attending air shows and steam engine shows and photography.
His greatest joy came from spending time on his farm in the country and
visiting with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his
ornery sense of humor.
He was born Oct. 10, 1929, near Watkins to the late Albert and Flora
Kasper Mayer and was predeceased by a sister, Elda Lyons, and a
brother-in-law, John Davie.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Snider of Raymond; his stepson, Jim
Chapman of West Mansfield; two sisters, Doris (Dick) Graham of Columbus
and Betty Davie of Bellefontaine; two brothers, Emerson (Kay) Mayer of
Columbus and Burl (Dormalee) Mayer of Plain City; a brother-in-law,
Frank Lyons of East Liverpool; several nieces and nephews; and many
friends, including Dave Thomas of Raymond.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mannasmith
Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas S. Hackett will officiate and burial with
full military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard will be
at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8

STEPHANIE KEIKILANI LUST
Stephanie Keikilani Lust, 18, of Prospect died Friday, July 2, 2004, at
Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware from injuries sustained in an
automobile accident in southern Delaware County.
She graduated with honors in the Pleasant High School class of 2004 and
received scholarships from the Ohio State University, the Smith Clinic
and the Marion Community Foundation, Marion Area Auxiliary. She was a
member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the National Honor Society and
was active in 4-H and had been involved with school musicals at
Pleasant. She volunteered at Marion General Hospital and had worked for
Dr. Nowacki. She had planned to attend the Ohio State University and
major in pharmacy. She enjoyed being with her friends and family and
going shopping.
She was born Feb. 4, 1986, in Marion to Steven M. and Geri L. Lumpkins
Lust of Prospect and is survived by her parents; a sister, Rachel L. of
the home; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Helen Lumpkins of Marion;
paternal grandparents, Art Lust and Ruth Weeks of Plain City and Maxine
and Ed Roberts of Marion; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

JOSEPH WESLEY DEWEESE
Joseph Wesley DeWeese, 60, of Mechanicsburg died Sunday, July 4, 2004,
at Ohio State University Hospital, exactly 30 years to the day after his
mother died of the same illness.
He was a 1963 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School and worked for 36
years at Navistar International until his retirement. He was a member of
UAW Local 402 and Navistar retirees. He spent most of his life in the
Springfield-Mechanicsburg area until he bought his retirement home in
Ajo, Ariz. He enjoyed boating, hunting and cowboy stories around the
campfire under a starry desert sky. He had a true appreciation for the
beautiful lands across our nation and he met and made many friends all
over the United States.
He liked to build things and help others with their projects and always
managed to make whatever he did a good time for himself and everyone
around him. He enjoyed life to the fullest in everything he did and made
every day count. Anyone who knew Joe will never forget Joe. He was very
loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. It was very fitting
that Joe died on Independence Day at the precise hour that celebrations
and fireworks were exploding all over the country.
He was born March 24, 1944, in Springfield to the late Clifford and
Geneva Powell DeWeese and was predeceased by an infant daughter, Kelli;
a sister, Wilma; and in 1997 by his horse Joe.
He is survived by his son, Jason of Florida; a special friend, Juanita
Cordell of Columbus; brothers, Paul (Lora) DeWeese of Ely, Minn., and
Stephen (Christy) DeWeese of Sidney; two sisters, Ruth Smith of
Marysville and Barbara (Mike) Graham of Springfield; two special aunts,
Stella and Lucille DeWeese of Springfield; and many cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Skillman,
McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. Pastor John Lockwood
will officiate and burial will be at Rosehill Memorial Park. Friends may

DELORES JEAN "SUE" MCCONNAHEA
Delores Jean "Sue" McConnahea, 67, of Marysville died Friday, July 2,
2004, at The Gables at Green Pastures.
She was born May 29, 1937, in Jerome Township, Union County, to the late
Harold E. and Anna Mae "Peggy" Shaw Rader.
She is survived by two sons, James Richard (Nancy) McConnahea of West
Mansfield and Steven Eric McConnahea of Marysville; grandchildren,
Michael (Teesha) McConnahea, Jonathon McConnahea, Steven Ryan
McConnahea, Jason (Jennifer) Brust, Francheska Brust and Patrick Brust;
great-grandchildren, Ashton McConnahea and Tyler Brust; a sister, Irene
(James) Williamson of Antwerp; a brother, Harold Rader of California;
brothers-in-law, Robert (Mary) McConnahea and John E. (Mary) McConnahea;
numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jim Rader, Betty
Caldwell and Sandy Gordon.

Martha L. Harbold, 96, of Marysville died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in
the Morey Center at Memorial Hospital of Union County with her family at
her side after suffering a broken hip Saturday.
A loving homemaker, she retired in 1969 as a matron at the Ohio
Reformatory for Women. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian
Church of Marysville since 1919 and was a 1927 graduate of Raymond High
school. She was dearly loved by her family and will be remembered as a
wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing
and crocheting and each child, grandchild and great-grandchild received
an afghan, baby outfit and quilt specially made by her.
She was born March 1, 1908, in Marysville to the late Daniel and Esta
Knotts Longbrake and was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lori Rowe; an
infant granddaughter, Becky Harbold; two brothers, Harold and Daniel
Longbrake; and a sister, Frances Bushong Nicol. She married Walter
Lester Harbold Aug. 29, 1930, and he died April 4, 1990.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Harbold of East Lansing, Mich.,
and Sally (Michael) Wakefield of Highland Ranch, Colo.; three sons,
Peter (Barbara) Harbold of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Gene (Shirley) Harbold
and George (Lola) Harbold of Marysville; 16 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mannasmith
Funeral Home. The Rev. John M. Groat will officiate and burial will be
at the Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center. Friends may call from

MONA JUNE "PEANUT" GOLDSBERRY
Mona June "Peanut" Goldsberry, 71, of Plain City died Wednesday, June
30, 2004, at her home.
She was retired from Westinghouse and sold Avon products for 30 years.
She was an avid bowler for many years.
She was born June 10, 1933, in Plain City to the late Daniel Everett and
Flora Lake McKitrick Sherwood and was predeceased by a brother, Jim, and
sisters, Elizabeth, Ada, Lois and Nelle.
She is survived by a son, Mike Goldsberry of Plain City; a daughter,
Diana (Bill) Blevins of Milford Center; six grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, William Goldsberry; a
sister-in-law, Colleen Goldsberry; many nieces and nephews, including
George Goldsberry, John Goldsberry and Peggy Williamson; and many
friends and fellow bowlers.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Ferguson Funeral
Home in Plain City. The Rev. Don Hilkerbaumer will officiate. Friends
