GERALD HARLEY HUFFMAN
Gerald Harley Huffman, 91, of Maitland, Fla., formerly of Milford
Center, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at his home.
He retired as a consultant in the mid-1970s and had been employed for
more than 30 years in government service. In 1962 he was appointed by
President Kennedy to serve as the U.S. commissioner on the Sino-American
Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction in Taipei, Taiwan. He
concurrently served as the Agency for International Development
representative for the China mission in Taipei from 1965 to 1968. He was
the Associate Director for Domestic Production for the Agency for
International Development Mission to Vietnam in 1968 and 1969.
His career began as a vocational agriculture teacher in 1937 and from
1938 to 1947 he was a county agent for the Agricultural Extension
Service. He served as an Ag Extension Service Specialist on a U.S. aid
mission to Italy from 1949 to 1952 and to France in 1952 and 1953. He
was affiliated with the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1954 to
1962.
He was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and served aboard
the USSPC #1174 in the Mediterranean Theater. He was a graduate of
Milford Center High School and received a bachelor of science in
agriculture from the Ohio State University in 1936 and a master's degree
in public administration from Harvard University in 1948. He formerly
attended the Milford Center United Methodist Church.
He was born April 3, 1913, in Milford Center to the late Harley and
Margery Fry Huffman. He married Iris Craig Sept. 3, 1941, and she died
Aug. 26, 1973. He married his second wife, Helen Strong, Nov. 14, 1975,
and she died June 17, 2004.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Myers of Fairfax, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mannasmith
Funeral Home. The Rev. William Stear will officiate and burial will be
at the Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center. Friends may call from
9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Milford Center United
Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

ELIZABETH MORRISON CONRAD
Elizabeth Morrison Conrad of Peachtree City, Ga., died Saturday, June
26, 2004.
She is survived by a son, Thomas (Eileen) Conrad of Peachtree City; two
grandsons, Alan Conrad and Phillip Conrad of Peachtree City; two
sisters, Peg Macherey of Nashville, Tenn., and Mary Nordberg of Acton,
Mass; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marysville
at a later date.
Metro Crematory in Peachtree City is in charge of arrangements.


JUANITA L. HYSELL
Juanita L. Hysell, 62, of West Mansfield, formerly of Columbus, died
Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Mary Rutan Hospital following an extended
illness.
A loving homemaker, she formerly attended the Groveport Baptist Church.
She was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley.
She was born Feb. 23, 1942, in Columbus to the late Norman and Margaret
Kinney Holiday and was predeceased by a son, Charles Hysell and a
brother, Ron Holiday.
She is survived by a son, Robert "Bobby" Hysell Jr. of West Mansfield;
two daughters, Brenda Hysell of West Mansfield and Debbie (Jim) Wetzel
of Mount Sterling; two grandsons, Christopher Hysell and William Wetzel;
two brothers, Charles Holiday of Columbus and Paul Thomas of Manning,
S.C.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Holiday of Columbus; two aunts, Frances
Kinney of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Katie Budd of Largo, Fla.; her
husband, Robert Hysell of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Mannasmith Funeral Home in Marysville assisted the family locally.


JOSEPH W. "JOE" MCLAUGHLIN
Joseph W. "Joe" McLaughlin, 50, of Marysville died unexpectedly Friday,
June 25, 2004, at his home.
He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and
regularly served as an usher for the Saturday evening Mass and
volunteered for the funeral dinner committee. He was an invaluable,
well-liked and highly active member of Knights of Columbus Council 5534
and enjoyed playing darts, working fish fries and spaghetti dinners and
sharing in the camaraderie with his fellow Knights. He was proud to live
on his own and took pride in keeping up the appearance of his home. He
enjoyed golfing and riding his bicycle and especially held tremendous
love and esteem for his mother. A truly hard-working man, he was always
available to lend a hand and he will be remembered for his gentle spirit
and his wonderful sense of humor.
He was born Jan. 29, 1954, in Marion to the Edmond W. and Norma Spoltman
McLaughlin and was predeceased by his father.
He is survived by his mother of Marysville; a brother, Patrick
McLaughlin of Columbus; two sisters, Peggy (Donald) Spangler of Dublin
and Carol McLaughlin of Heath; three uncles, Wayne (Marcia) Spoltman of
Sidney, William (Eleanor) McLaughlin of Urbana and Robert McLaughlin of
Lexington, Ky.; five aunts, Leona (Paul) Smith of California, Marcella
Mott and Mary Ann Wallace of Urbana, Patty Spoltman of Olympia, Wash.,
and Ann Spoltman of Sidney; many cousins; and his church family.
A memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes
Catholic Church. The Rev. J. Barry Bentz will officiate and burial will
be at Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana at a later date. Friends may call at
the church from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Refreshments
and fellowship will follow the Mass in Falvey Hall.

LADONNA A. MINSHALL
Ladonna A. Minshall, 71, of Marysville, formerly of Columbus, died
Monday, June 28, 204, at Milcrest Nursing Home after an extended
illness.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus.
She was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Franklin County to the late Harry and
Emily Lustnauer Distelhorst and was predeceased by two brothers, Elwood
Distelhorst and Carroll Distelhorst; and a sister, Alverta Rause.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Minshall whom she married
April 1, 1955; two sons, Gregg (Kate) Minshall of Las Vegas, Nev., and
Brad Minshall of Columbus; two grandchildren, Kimberly Minshall and
Christopher Minshall; and a brother, Orville (Margene) Distelhorst of
Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ferguson Funeral
Home in Plain City. The Rev Paul Heine will officiate and burial will be
a Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday.

NORMA I. HULLINGER
Norma I. Hullinger, 95, of Cincinnati, formerly of Marysville and Terre
Haute, Ohio, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.
She was born May 28, 1909, on a farm in Terre Haute where she was
raised, moved to Osborn in 1936 and to Lebanon in 1938 and lived in
Marysville from 1950 to 1997. She moved to Cincinnati in 1997.
She was the beloved wife of Orville Hullinger who was the owner of
Marysville Lumber Co.; devoted mother of Carolyn (Walt) Wyatt of
Cincinnati and Leona (John) Schaefer of Kansas City, Mo.; loving
grandmother of Ann (John) Furnier of Midland, Mich., and Jeff (Sheila)
Wyatt of Cincinnati; great-grandmother of Sarah, Matthew and Hannah
Furnier and Nicholas Wyatt; and dear sister of Ruth Goddard of Terre
Haute and the late Ivan Goddard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Terre Haute
United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of
the service. Burial will be at the Terre Haute Cemetery in Champaign
County.

JOHN ANDREW HUTCHINS SR.
John Andrew Hutchins Sr., 67, of Marysville, formerly of Dayton, died
Friday, June 25, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was a driver for the Hutchins Oil Company, a beer delivery driver for
Hudepohl and Black Label, a Complete Auto Transit driver and a driver
for U.S. Truck for 16 years. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served
during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Union Post 79
and VFW Post 3320 and a life member of AmVets. He was an avid Chicago
Bears and Cincinnati Reds fan.
He was born Jan. 27, 1937, in Dayton to the late Forrest Wayne and
Stella Mae Carper Hutchins Sr. and was predeceased by two brothers,
Forrest Hutchins Jr. and Bob Hutchins.
He is survived by his wife, Belinda Kay Wagner Hutchins whom he married
May 12, 1990, in Huber Heights; children, Doug (Julie) Hutchins of
Marysville, John (Joyce) Hutchins Jr. of North Dakota, Deb Hutchins of
California, Donna Ball of Dayton, John K. Snodgrass of Kettering, Todd
Douglas Snodgrass of Miamisburg, Matthew Curtis Snodgrass of Georgia,
Nicole Christian Snodgrass of Indiana, Joshua Andrew Snodgrass of
Kettering, Andrew Jason Snodgrass of Kettering and Kimberly Christine
Beck of Georgia; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three
brothers, Russ, Daniel and Ernie Hutchins of Dayton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dayton Memorial Park,
8135 N. Dixie Drive and burial with military honors will follow. Friends

ELDA M. HAINES MCCARRON
Elda M. Haines McCarron, 94, of Marysville, formerly of Akron, died
Friday, June 25, 2004, at The Gables at Green Pastures.
She was a former beautician and an associate of Ferriot Plastics Company
in Akron. She enjoyed sewing, reading and, especially, her
grandchildren.
She was born July 13, 1909, in Pickford, Mich., to the late Elmer and
Eva Sanderson Haines and was predeceased by her husband, John T.
McCarron; a son, Don McCarron; a brother, Melvin Haines; and a sister,
Mary Jane Hossack.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Donna (Tom) Hershberger of
Marysville, Linda Smith and Kim Smith of Akron and Chris (Rachelle)
Smith of Ravenna; great-grandchildren, Jon (Julie) Hershberger of
Northfield Center Township, Dawn (Jim) Thompson of Marysville, Mike
(Arwen) Smith and Steve Smith of Akron and Ashton Smith of Ravenna; two
great-great-granddaughters, Emma Grace Hershberger and Elianna Smith;
other relatives including Charles "Bill" Smith of Mogadore; a special
friend, Norma Hershberger of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.

THOMAS LEUELLEN TAYLOR
Thomas Leuellen Taylor, 92, of Radnor, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.
He was retired from farming and sheep shearing. He was a state sheep
shearing champion and one spring sheared 4,000 sheep. He was a charter
member of the Fulton Creek Friends Church and was a loving husband,
father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
He was born April 20, 1912, in Marion County, the eldest son of the late
Arthur and Bertha Parish Taylor and was predeceased by eight brothers
and sisters and a great-grandson, Jack Calvin.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Thelma Mae Schultz
Taylor; a son, Lowell (Aldena) Taylor of Radnor; three daughters, Pat
(Charlie) Snare of Marion, Sherry (Bill) Shelton of Keller, Texas, and
Linda (Phil) Seiter of Blanchard, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (Gene) Clady of Richwood.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the
Fulton Creek Friends Church, 10950 Fulton Creek Road, Richwood. The
Revs. Wayne Evans and Paul Williams will officiate and burial will be at
the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the
church.

KYLE R. THOMPSON
Kyle R. Thompson, 21, of Broadway died Saturday, June 26, 2004, in
Champaign County.
He was a carpenter and an employee of LawnScapes Lawncare and
Landscaping in Marysville. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing,
big trucks, pretty girls and remodeling his house. He was a graduate of
Marysville High School and was a former volunteer with the Liberty
Township Fire Department.
He was born Feb. 15, 1983, in Marysville to William M. "Butch" and Tracy
Braithwaite Thompson III and was predeceased by his paternal
grandfather, William M. Thompson Jr.
He is survived by his parents of Broadway; a sister, Megan (Judd) Coffey
of Cable; two nephews, Dexter and Johnathan Coffey; maternal
grandparents, Jack and Naomi Braithwaite of Richwood; paternal
grandmother and step-grandfather, Catherine and John Cugeber of
Marysville; special friend, Lindsay Marshall of Marysville; and numerous
aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the
Broadway Cemetery and a gathering of family and friends will follow at
the home of his parents.

RUTH I. EVANS
Ruth I. Evans, 83, of Mechanicsburg died Friday, June 25, 2004, at her
home surrounded by her family.
She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished
being around her family as well as her love for flowers and working in
her garden. She graduated from Mechanicsburg High School and the Dayton
Art Institute. She was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist
Church, the United Methodist Women, Goshen Garden Club and Women's
Tourist Club. She was the First Lady of the Ohio State Fair while her
husband served as general manager. During her youth, she and her family
lived throughout the United States and Nova Scotia.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Sylvia Wilt Rasmussen; a
brother, Luther Rasmussen; a sister Elsie Ireland; and her husband, John
F. Evans.
She is survived by her children, Jane (Ed) Byrne of Terre Haute, Ohio,
Maggie Wolf of St. Germain, Wis., and John (Linda) Evans of Galena;
eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchidlren;
five step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Hilda Lord of Urbana; and
caregivers, Sharon, Loretta and Christina and Mercy Hospice, especially
Candy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mechanicsburg
United Methodist Church. The Revs. Larry Poling and William Turner will

CYNTHIA J. HALE KRAJCIK
Cynthia J. Hale Krajcik, 43, of Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of
Marysville, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at the home of her sister
following a brief battle with cancer.
She was a 1979 graduate of Port Clinton High School and was employed as
a legal secretary and office manager for the law firm of Cannizarro,
Fraser, Bridges and Jillisky in Marysville. She was a member of the
Marysville Moose Lodge and was an officer for the Women of the Moose.
She was born May 21, 1961, in Sandusky and is survived by her son,
Stephen C. Krajcik of Marysville; her parents, Clifford R. and Leta
Couch Hale of Okeechobee, Fla.; and a sister, Peggy (Don) Day of
Sandusky.
There will be no visitation. Private family services will be conducted
with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee. The Groff Funeral Home,
1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky is in charge of local arrangements.

FRANK E. THOMPSON
Frank E. Thompson, 67, of the Raymond/West Mansfield area died Thursday,
June 24, 2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after an
extended illness.
He and his brother were lifelong Jersey dairy farmers and he worked in
the paint department at McAuliffe's Ace Hardware store during his
retirement. He was a faithful member of the Old Union Church of Christ
and a past member of the Liberty Feeders 4-H Club. He graduated from
Raymond High School in 1954 and served in the National Guard. He
especially enjoyed collecting model trains. He lived his entire life on
the family farm.
He was born Nov. 11, 1936, on the family home place to the late Marion
James and Edna Leota Davis Thompson and was predeceased by a brother,
Mervin J. Thompson.
He is survived by a brother, Francis E. (Dorothy) Thompson of West
Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Thompson of Mount Vernon; nieces
and nephews, Curt (Karen) Thompson of Mount Vernon, Doug (Ana) Thompson
of Oklahoma City, Okla., John Thompson of Sunbury, Laurie (Jerry) Tucker
of Brentwood, Tenn., Brian (Cathy) Thompson of West Mansfield, Barry
(Becky) Thompson of Nashville, Tenn., and Lynda Thompson of Estes Park,
Colo.; great-nieces and -nephews, Gracie Tucker, Brandon, Bethany and
Phillip Thompson and Greg and Donna Thompson; and a special friend,

RAYDA A. BAILEY
Rayda A. Bailey, 97, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Union County, died
Friday, June 18, 2004, under hospice care at her home.
She was a retired school teacher and homemaker and moved to Florida in
1992.
She was born May 17, 1907, in Marion County to the late Earnest and
Rebecca Converse and was predeceased in 1988 by her husband of 52 years,
Thomas C. Bailey.
She is survived by three children, Thomas of Houston, Texas, Gary of
Melbourne and Joyce Ryerson of Hanover, N.H.; and a brother, LaMoyne
Converse of Richwood.
Memorial services were held today at the Beach Funeral Home, 1689 S.
Patrick Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.

MARY L. DIPIETRO LEAVER
Mary L. DiPietro Leaver, 75, of Marysville, formerly of Westford, Mass.,
died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in
Columbus.
She was a 1947 graduate of Malden High School, a United States Army
Women's Army Corps veteran and was retired from the United States
federal government.
She was born June 4, 1929, in Stoneham, Mass., to the late Frank and
Edna DiPietro and was predeceased by a brother, Frank DiPietro.
She is survived by her children, Maureen (Steve) Leaver Goodwin of
Westford, Susan Leaver Kestella of Marysville, Rick (Judith) Leaver of
Pickerington and Scott (Kate) Leaver of Dublin; grandchildren, Rachel
and Clark Goodwin, Lou and Brett Kestella and Marshall Leaver; and
brothers, Joseph (Delores) DiPietro of Malden, Mass., and Robert (Alice)
DiPietro of Holiday, Fla.

LYNN ELWOOD "COONDOG" KING
Lynn Elwood "Coondog" King, 59, of Marysville died Saturday, June 19,
2004, at Heartland of Marysville following an extended illness.
He retired in 1994 after 30 years with Rockwell International as a
repairman, servicing Army trucks, tractor trailers and buses. He was a
charter member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1651 in Marysville. An
avid hunter, he enjoyed fishing and was a gun enthusiast.
He was born March 12, 1945, in Columbus and was predeceased by his
father, Gail R. King.

living in Marysville; his wife of 35 years, Charlotte K. Bradford King
whom he married Feb. 8, 1969, in Marysville; a daughter, Clara (Todd)
Clevenger of Marysville; a son, Gail R. King of Pataskala; a grandson,
Nathan Clevenger of Marysville; two brothers-in-law, Clayton (Nancy)
Bradford of Marysville and Calvin (Patricia) Bradford of Hilliard; an
uncle, Emerson McIntosh of Pataskala; an aunt, Florence Bevelhymer of
New Albany; and many other relatives and good friends.

MARY LOU HITCHINSON DOWLING
Mary Lou Hutchinson Dowling, 97, a Richwood resident since 1973 and
former resident of Chesapeake and Columbus, died Saturday, June 19,
2004, at The Gables at Green Pastures in Marysville.
She was retired as the owner of the former Dowling's Grocery, Corner
Market in Chesapeake and was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed
gardening, crossword puzzles and doting on her grandsons.
She was born Jan. 17, 1907, in Dennis, Ky., to the late Roland and
Maggie Ramey Hutchinson and was predeceased by a brother, Paul
Hutchinson; and six sisters, Emma Cooksey, Bertha Allen, Virginia Van
Horn, Opal Kitchen, May Stuart and Laura Rice. She married Emory A.
Dowling in September 1929 and he died in October of 1942.
She is survived by a son, E.A. (Sandra) Dowling of Proctorville; a
daughter, Phyllis Rees of Richwood; four grandsons, Michael Rees of
Delaware, Eric (Penny) Rees of Richwood, Jeffrey Rees of Detroit and Tom
Rees Jr. of Circleville; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Essie
Brainard of Dayton and Ruth Prince of Dennis, Ky.
Funeral services were held today at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in
Richwood and burial was at the Claibourne Cemetery.

MARILYN "JEAN" HAWKINS
Marilyn "Jean" Hawkins, 71, formerly of Delaware, died Sunday, June 20,
2004, at the residence of her son in Richwood.
She was a bookkeeper for the American Cancer Society and a member of
Cornerstone Church of Christ in Christian Union in Plain City.
She was born April 5, 1933, in Delaware County to the late Fred and
Gladys Heath Wolfe and was predeceased by two sisters, Wiletta Mae Wolfe
and Freda Anderson and by her husband, Lloyd, in 1995.
She is survived by a daughter, Victoria (Ken) Kelley of Flushing; a son,
David (Jennifer) Hawkins of Richwood; two grandchildren, Dawson and
Abagail Hawkins; a brother, Fred Wolfe of Riley, Kan.; and a sister,
Ruth Wade of Delaware.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rodman Bennett
Brown Funeral Home in Delaware. The Rev. Phil Conrad will officiate and
burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m.

JAMES LEROY NOTTINGHAM JR.
James Leroy Nottingham Jr., 70, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at
University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz., after a seven-month illness.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after high school graduation and
saw active and reservist duty as an aerial photographer. He served in
Korea and earned the rank of sergeant. Upon his discharge, he attended
Ohio University and received a bachelor of science degree in
architectural engineering. After being certified as a P.E.., he worked
at the Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Environmental Protection
Agency. He and his wife moved to Marysville in 1973 and he continued in
the Columbus office of the Ohio EPA for 20 years and later worked for
the engineering firm of Bischoff and Associates.
Upon retirement, he moved to Green Valley where he was active in working
with the homeowners association. He enjoyed many hobbies, including
beekeeping, gardening, woodworking and photography. He enjoyed working
as a jack of all trades, building additions to his house and serving as
a handyman for his church for many years.
He was born April 7, 1934, in Buffalo, N.Y., the second child of James
and Wilma Nottingham Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Schumaker Nottingham whom he married
Feb. 12, 1972; a daughter, Lori (Charles) Fraleigh; a son, Bill (Sharon)
Nottingham; a granddaughter, Lindsay Nottingham; two sisters, Jane
(Charles) Haefner and Sue (Ray) Hagedorn; two brothers, Bob (Diane)
Nottingham and Bill Nottingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass was held Friday at Our Lady of the Valley Church in
Green Valley and burial was at Green Valley.

CHARLES R. "CHARLIE" SARVER
Charles R. "Charlie" Sarver, 80, of Delaware died at his home Saturday,
June 19, 2004, surrounded by his family.
He worked as a supervisor for the Eljer Plumbing Company in Marysville
for 21 years and for Delo Screw in Delaware for 21 years. A 1942
graduate of Raymond High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army
in the European Theater in World War II. He was a member of Reed Miller
VFW Post 3297 and was an active member of the Delaware Bible Church. His
faith was very important to him and he loved the Lord. He enjoyed Bible
study, flower gardening, bird watching, woodworking and making things
for his grandchildren. He was very proud of his family.
He was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Peoria in Union County to the late Jacob
H. and Mary Opphile Sarver and was predeceased by a grandson, Zachary
Reichelderfer in 1997; three brothers, Jacob II, Frank and John; and
seven sisters, Mildred Wood, Helen Clark, Elizabeth Sarver, Alice
Mitchell, Mary Lockwood, Martha Donaugh and Florence Appleman.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Edith Feasel
Sarver whom he married Sept. 9, 1944; five daughters, Lois (Don)
Armstrong of Encampment, Wyo., Carolyn (Bob) Corbin of Marysville,
Beverly (Chuck) Johnson of Delaware, Sally (John) Reichelderfer of
Mansfield and Valeta (Dean) Goon of Marion; 12 grandchildren, Kim
Lehnert, Tracey Stevenson, Michelle Suiter, Kevin Corbin, Kathy Burson,
Charlene Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Lyndsey, Katlyn and Olivia
Reichelderfer and Hunter and Juliette Goon; seven great-grandchildren; a
great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Winifred Sarver of
Marysville and Leona Stanford of Toledo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Delaware
Bible Church, 45 Belle Ave., Delaware. The Rev. Richard Van Gorden will
officiate and burial will be at Fairview Memorial Park where military
honors will be conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Association.

IVAN D. BECKEL
Ivan D. Beckel, 83, of Marysville, formerly of Marion, died Thursday,
June 17, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
He was retired after 25 years as a cabinet maker with Beckel's Cabinet
Shop. He was a member of Peace Community UCC Church in Waldo where he
had served as treasurer, deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher and as a
member of the church board. He enjoyed woodworking and photography and
did art glass work, such as stained glass windows. He had a keen sense
of humor.
He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Marion to the late Jacob and Laura
McClenathan Beckel and was predeceased by two brothers, Marlo and Cletus
Beckel and a nephew, Larry Beckel.
He is survived by his wife, Anita E. Rausch Beckel to whom he was
married Dec. 26, 1968, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marysville by
the Rev. Oscar C. Decker; two nephews, Rex Beckel of Cardington and Mike
Beckel of California; a brother-in-law, Eugene Wilkins of Columbus; two
sisters-in-law, Joy Beckel of Cardington and Caroline Rausch of
Ostrander; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

MARY ANN GRUENBAUM
Mary Ann Gruenbaum, 80, of Plain City died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at
Heartland of Marysville after a six-month illness.
She graduated from Plain City High School in 1941 and attended office
training school in Columbus. She was employed by the Girl Scouts of
America and later by the state of Ohio during the 1940s. She worked at
the Fairbanks Local Schools from 1968 to 1980 and was clerk treasurer of
the school board upon her retirement. She was raised in the Methodist
church and upon her marriage, was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran
Church in Marysville and was a member there until her death.
She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Plain City to the late Tod and Nellie
Hilbert Douglas. She married Carl M. "Woody" Gruenbaum of Fladt Road,
Marysville, on April 12, 1947, and he died March 12, 2004.
She is survived by her children, William T. (Sue Boettger) Gruenbaum of
Rochester, N.Y., John T. (Carolyn) Gruenbaum of Westerville, Sue A.
(Gene) Dougherty of Plain City and James M. (Cindy) Gruenbaum of San
Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Lee Ann Fraley, Beth (Jason) Deere, Carla
(Bart) Wilson, Jonathan Dougherty, Scott Gruenbaum, Jayna Gruenbaum,
Melanie Gruenbaum and Henry Gruenbaum; great-grandchildren, Tyler
Fraley, Aaron Fraley, Kaitlyn Deere and Lauren Deere; sisters, Virginia
(William) Wall of Charlottesville, Va., and Dorothy (Charles) Conklin of
Scotia, N.Y.; a brother, Richard (June) Douglas of Hartselle, Ala.; and

SHEILA ANN HESSON
Sheila Ann Hesson, 44, of Thurston, formerly of Marysville, died
unexpectedly Friday, June 11, 2004, at her home.
An associate of Fairfield Industries in Lancaster, she worked at Martins
Partitions as an assembler. She attended New Horizons Youth Center and
Our Place activities club in Lancaster. She was a 1979 graduate of
Marysville High School and attended Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in the
food management program. She was a member of Stony Creek Church of the
Brethren in Bellefontaine. While growing up in Marysville, she was a
member of 4-H and participated in Junior Fair activities. She enjoyed
singing, theatrics, traveling, camping and reading and especially
enjoyed her dog, Taff.
She was born Dec. 16, 1959, at Memorial Hospital of Union County and is
survived by her parents, Robert and Gladys Hesson of Marysville; a
brother, Rodney Hesson of Marysville; two uncles, Larry E. Hesson of
Marietta and Harold (SueAnn) Early of Bellefontaine; four aunts, Martha
(Phil) Myers of Holland, Ohio, RoseMarie (Bill) Slemmons of Wyoming,
Ohio, Frances Core of Cridersville and Ruth Ann Early of Upper Sandusky;
a great-uncle, Neil Deisher of Bellefontaine; special friends, Tammy,

LELAND EUGENE "GENE" JAMES
Leland Eugene "Gene" James, 56, of Broadway died Saturday, June 12,
2004, at Milcrest Nursing Center following a brave 10-month battle with
cancer.
A six-year associate with Midwest Express, he formerly was employed for
more than 20 years with Ranco and had worked at Scotts. He was a 1965
graduate of Richwood High School and was a member of Marysville Moose
Lodge 1651 and Marysville Eagles Lodge 3506. He enjoyed attending flea
markets and was a very proud father and grandfather.
He was born Nov. 26. 1947, in Columbus and was predeceased by his
father, Leland Carroll James on April 5, 2004, and his mother, Mildred
Mae Keller James on Sept. 27, 1998. He married Debbie McKenzie Sept. 7,
1968 and she died Feb. 17, 1994.
He is survived by a son, Adam James and his close friend, Erin Benton of
Marysville; a daughter, Emily James, 17, of Marysville; a granddaughter,
Lillian Carol James; a sister, Kathy James of Marysville; an uncle,
Bernard James of West Mansfield; four aunts, Florence Savage and Glada
(Dale) Stuckert of Bucyrus, Pauline Davidson of Crestline and Anna
Elizabeth Snyder of Marysville; several cousins; and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the
Mannasmith-Hale Funeral Home. The Rev. William Crawford will officiate

DR. JOHN M. WILKINS
Dr. John Monroe Wilkins, 87, of Athens, Ga., died Wednesday, June 9,
2004.
A native of Marysville, he was a 1934 graduate of Marysville High School
and also graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and the Ohio State
Medical School. After his internship at Maumee Valley Hospital in
Toledo, he served in the medical department of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
After World War II, he practiced in Covington, Ohio, for several years.
After receiving his anesthesiology degree from the Medical College of
Georgia, he was an anesthesiologist with St. Mary's Hospital in Athens,
Ga., for 30 years before his retirement. He was a member and former
officer of Central Presbyterian Church of Athens.
He was the son of the late Lee and Mary Van Brunt Wilkins of Marysville
and is survived by his wife, Ruth Kendell Wilkins; a son, John Lee
Wilkins of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three daughters, Mary Ruth Negro of
Wellesley, Mass., Sarah Goodrich of Schoharie, N.Y., and Martha Stansel
of Southbury, Conn.; three sons-in-law; eight grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Central Presbyterian
Church, 390 Alps Road, Athens, GA 30606. The family will receive friends
in the fellowship hall after the services.

Wilbur G. "Rusty" Miller, 83, of Indian Meadows in Huntsville, died
Friday, June 11, 2004, at his home.
He was a retired manufacturing manager and a member of the Huntsville
Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Joseph Robbins Lodge 930 F&AM in
Peoria, Ill., Bellefontaine Lions Club, Indian Lake Moose Lodge, William
H. Nauss Post 143 American Legion in New Cumberland, Pa., and the
National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors in Columbia, Pa. He
was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was
a past Governor of Lions District 12L in Tennessee.
He was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Peoria, Ill., to the late Maon and Jessie
Burk Miller and was predeceased by a daughter; a son; and a
great-grandson. He married Opal Faye Kraft Jan. 23, 1942, and she died
March 18, 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Hurley Miller whom he married in
Nov. 1999; two sons, Glen (Patty) Miller of Destin, Fla., and Ralph
(Karen) Miller of Marysville; four grandchildren, Tracy Miller, Ty
Miller, Lorie Schuler and Shawn Schuler; four great-grandchildren; and a
brother, Robert (Bob) Miller of Peoria, Ill.

AMIL EUGENE COLLINS
Amil Eugene Collins, 84, of Richwood died Friday, June 11, 2004, at
Community Nursing Center in Marion.
His family moved to Richwood when he was 2 years old and settled on a
farm. In 1938, he was in the last class to graduate from 11th grade at
the Essex school and he then graduated from the 12th grade in Richwood
in 1939. He farmed until he entered the Marine Corps in Quantico, Va.,
from March 1945 to the end of 1946.
He served on the early Richwood Volunteer Fire Department and was a
deputy sheriff for former sheriff Ed Amrine. He had a small plane in the
1950s and did farm ditching and was always a farmer at heart. He drove a
Peterbilt truck for the Dallas-Mavis Forwarding Company. He was a member
of the Richwood First United Methodist Church, Teamsters Local 40 in
Mansfield, American Legion Baccarat Post 40 in Richwood and the Richwood
Civic Center and was a 50-year member of the former Richwood Lions Club.

He and his wife Mary enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, time spent at Ted and
Fern Monson's resort on Lake Kabetogama, Minn., and their 13 seasons in
Bonita Springs, Fla., near Mary's sister. In spite of being diagnosed
with dementia in January 1999, he never lost his sweet disposition.
He was born May 25, 1920, in Portsmouth to the late Henry Harrison and
Viola Dickison Collins and was predeceased by a brother, Denvil.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Price Collins whom he married
Feb. 14, 1943; a brother, Paul (Betty) Collins of Ogden, Utah; two
sisters, Madlyn Sawyer of Marion and Ruth Chipman of Manhattan, N.Y.;
and many loving and caring nieces and nephews, including Gary Collins
and his wife Nancy who have been there helping them in every way the
past four years.

DANIEL CARL DILLARD
Daniel Carl Dillard, 65, of Mechanicsburg died Thursday, June 10, 2004,
at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
A 1957 graduate of Northwestern High School, he was a retired salesman
and had worked for the Springfield Carpet Shop, the Sears Roebuck Co.
and Clark Landmark of Springfield. He was a devout Christian who
attended Pleasant Community Church of God and New Life Ministries in
Mechanicsburg and served as Sunday School superintendent for Pleasant
Community Church of God for a number of years. He enjoyed woodworking,
camping, traveling and life.
He was born Feb. 20, 1939, in South Vienna to the late Ralph and
Margaret Long Dillard and was predeceased by a brother, Manley; and two
grandchildren, Tobias and Victoria Dillard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Virginia Harvey Dillard
whom he married Nov. 25, 1967; five sons, Dean (Teresa) Dillard of
Springfield, Douglas Dillard of Bellefontaine, Donald (Jennifer) Dillard
of Urbana, Dale (Shirley) Dillard of Stryker and David (Lora) Dillard of
Indianapolis; three daughters, Dannita (Bill) Day of Dothan, Ala.,
Margaret (John) Engle of Marysville and Deborah (Chris) Vanvoorhis of
Mechanicsburg; a stepdaughter, Susan Brown Rutan of San Diego, Calif.;
19 grandchildren, Chad, Jonathon, Nathan, Joshua, Elizabeth, Kristen,
Brice, Kyle, Hannah, Bethany, Derek, Matthew, Samantha, Drew, Brandon,
Lucas, Justin, Tracy and Stacie; three great-grandchildren; and two
sisters, Wanda (Elijah) Tomlin and Wilma (Lee) Rowland.

HELEN M. ENGLE
Helen M. Engle, 86, of Marysville, formerly of South Vienna, died
Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at The Gables in Green Pastures.
She retired as a licensed practical nurse, having worked at several
nursing homes in the Springfield area. She was a homemaker and enjoyed
birdwatching, flowers, reading and jigsaw puzzles.
She was born April 13, 1918, in Springfield to the late Earl and Mattie
Myers. She married Lloyd A. Engle Aug. 11, 1941, and he died March 19,
2001.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Bonnie) Engle of Marysville; two
daughters, Susan R. Holstein of Marysville and Judy (Thomas) Bowers of
Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a
brother, James (Madelyn) Myers of Springfield; and two sisters, Alma
Patton of Springfield and Ruth (Ed) Fissinger of Clifton.

Betty Parlet, 78, of Paso Robles, Calif., died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at
the Danish Nursing Center in Atascadero, Calif., after a long illness.
A graduate of King City California High School, she was a former bus
driver for Paso Robles schools for many years. In her retirement, she
enjoyed being a school crossing guard and was actively involved serving
in the local senior citizen lunch program.
She was born Oct. 21, 1925, to Richard F. and Marcella Bradford and was
predeceased by her father; an infant daughter, Betty Lou Parlet; a
brother, Richard E. Bradford; and her husband, Robert Parlet.
She is survived by her mother, Marcella Bradford Mann of Paso Robles;
two sons, Van (Samantha) Parlet and Norman Parlet of Paso Robles; two
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Barbara (Bob)
Bushong of Marysville, Marcella Parlet of Paris, Ark., La Vona Styn of

Arlington B. "Abe" Howison, 95, died June 29, 2002, in San Antonio,
Texas.
He attended the Prospect schools and graduated from Prospect High School
in 1927.
He was born Jan. 25, 1907, to the late Lee Arlington and Elizabeth
Romoser Howison at the Howison farm close to Richwood and was
predeceased by two brothers, Marion Owen Howison and Sanford Howison and
a sister, Louisa Howison Yost. He is survived by a brother, Charles
William Howison of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Elizabeth J. Eastman Howison, 93, died Nov. 25, 2003, in San Antonio,
Texas.
She was born Feb. 4, 1910, in Columbus to the late Jacob and Emma Martin
Eastman. She graduated from Byhalia High School in 1928. She was an only
child and had many Eastman relatives in and around the Byhalia area.
They married July 2, 1934, and were married 68 years. They moved to
Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1948 and lived there until 1994 when they
moved to San Antonio.
They are survived by a daughter, Eleanor Howison (Robert) Webb of San
Antonio; a son, David Arlington Howison of Alvin, Texas; three
grandsons, Mark (Tara) Webb of Waller, Texas, David A. (Susan) Howison
Jr. of Pearland, Texas, and Jeffery (Michelle) Howison of Friendswood,
Texas; a granddaughter, Laura Webb (Ron) Hoch of San Antonio; four
great-grandsons, Travis and Matthew Hoch, Kevin Webb and Trent Howison;
and three great-granddaughters, Marcie Webb, Kelsi Howison and Jamie
Howison.
A combined graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the
Prospect Cemetery. The Rev. David L. Hoffman will officiate and friends
may call from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ballinger Funeral Home.


FLORENTINE JUSTICE
Florentine Justice, 88, of Marysville died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at
Milcrest Nursing Center after an extended illness.
A loving homemaker and devoted mother, she had formerly worked for
Nestle's and Grady Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful member of First
English Lutheran Church in Marysville and enjoyed playing euchre and
bingo and spending time with her family.
She was born April 27, 1916, in Marysville to the late John A. and Mary
Rausch Mayer and was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lori Ann Gregory
May 22, 1972; two sisters, Frieda Geer and Frances Rausch; a
sister-in-law, Ruth Mayer; and on Aug. 25, 1969, by her husband, Martin
Justice.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Becky) Justice of Morral and Joe
(Anne) Justice of Zanesfield; a daughter, Diana (Brian) Ross of Fort
Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother,
Walter Mayer of Marysville; many nieces and nephews; and her church
family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the
Mannasmith-Hale Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Genzman will officiate
and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8
p.m. Friday.

WARREN K. TITUS
Warren K. Titus, 83, of East Liberty died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Green
Hills Nursing Center in West Liberty after an extended illness.
He was a machinist with Harding Machine in East Liberty for more than 36
years. A proud veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in
the southwest Pacific and was a member of the East Liberty American
Legion and the West Mansfield Lions Club. He was a loyal fan of the Ohio
State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, an avid bowler and fisherman
and especially enjoyed playing cards with his wife, Lois, and their East
Liberty euchre club friends. He will be remembered as a loving family
man and proud grandfather.
He was born May 23, 1921, in Rushsylvania to the late Knowles and Winnie
Dixon Titus and was predeceased by four brothers, Russ, Daryl, Ron and
Malcolm Titus. He married Lois Stevenson Dec. 14, 1946, and she died
Jan. 4, 1995.
He is survived by a son, Gary (Vickie) Titus of East Liberty; two
daughters, Linda (Joe) Cronkleton of Zanesfield and Cheryl (Don) Bradley
of West Liberty; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Sue (Darren) Rees, Krista
Anderson, Cara (Russ) Slayback, Joey (Jill) Cronkleton, Matthew (Jill)
Titus, Alyson (Neal) Stanford, Tyler Bradley and Kate Titus; five
great-grandchildren, Cody and Trent Rees, Micah Anderson, Tad Slayback
and Lynzee Cronkleton; three brothers, Raymond (Nadine) Titus of
Bellefontaine, Glenno (Olivia) Titus of Rushsylvania and Leonard
(Phylis) Titus of Springfield; a sister, Berdena Taylor of Napoleon; two
sisters-in-law, Betty Titus and Everetta Titus of Bellefontaine; and
many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the East Liberty
Cemetery. The Rev. Rob Kilgore will officiate and military honors will
be conducted by the Logan County Veterans Association. Friends may call

Funeral Home in West Mansfield.

TROY LEE DANIEL
Troy Lee Daniel, 61, of Plain City died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at
Doctors Hospital West.
He attended Heartland Union Freewill Baptist Church and served in the
National Guard for eight years.
He was born Oct. 11, 1942, in Floyd County, Ky., to the late James Clyde
and Neva Daniel of Plain City and was predeceased by a brother, Clarence
Daniel in 1983 and an aunt, Hazel Collier.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie Belcher Daniel whom he
married Sept. 19, 1960; children, Connie Daniel (Elvin) Bocook of
Columbus, Carolyn Daniel, Cathy Daniel (Les) Cox and Michelle Daniel of
Plain City and Robert Daniel of Marysville; nine grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. James E. (Barbara) Daniel of
Allen Park, Mich., and Elmer R. (Rebecca) Daniel of Shepherdsville, Ky.;
three sisters Wilma Jean Crum of Ashley, Glenda Kay (Ray) Kelley of
Blaine, Ky., and Linda Sue (Randy) Kelley of Marysville; and a
sister-in-law, Shirley Daniel of Hilliard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Heartland Union
Freewill Baptist Church, 9720 Route 161, Plain City. The Revs. James

THOMAS H. CONNOLLY
Thomas H. Connolly, 82, of Zanesfield died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at
Green Hills Center in West Liberty.
He was retired as a supervisor at the East Liberty Stone Quarry which
was part of the Connolly Contruction Company. A graduate of North
Lewisburg High School, he was a lifelong Logan County farmer, a maple
syrup producer and a member of the Ohio Maple Producers Association.
He was born April 23, 1922, in Zanesfield to the late Fred and Syrena
Moffitt Connolly and was predeceased by a stepson, William Michael
Short; two brothers, Richard and Roscoe Connolly; and a sister, Dorothy
Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Betty VanBuskirk Short Connolly whom he
married in May 1964 in Indiana; a son, Wendell (Shirley) Connolly of
West Mansfield; two stepsons, James A. (Irene) Short of St. Paris and
Richard "Keith" (Shelly) Short of West Liberty; two daughters, Sheila
(Charlie) Grimes of Columbus and Betty Mowery of Urbana; a stepdaughter,
Judy (Tom) Berry of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; numerous
step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Reba Huffman of Sunbury; and a
brother, Junior Connolly of Zanesfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the
Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty. Pastor Michael Eckstein
will officiate and burial will be at Highland Memorial Gardens in West

JUANITA MERRYFIELD VANNATTA
Juanita Merryfield Vannatta, 73, of Marysville died Saturday, June 5,
2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
She was retired from Eljer Plumbingware and Rockwell International. She
served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the
Roseville American Legion and Kingscreek Friends Church.
She was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Fremont to the late Leon and Helen
Diebert Merryfield and was predeceased by three brothers, Ken, Dick and
Don Merryfield.
She is survived by her children, Cecilia "Midge" Tucker and Wilma (Ed)
Miller of North Lewisburg, Steve (Jeannie) Vannatta and Margaret "Peg"
Sullivan of Marysville and Martha (Harry) LeVan of Graysville; 17
grandchidlren; and several great-grandchildren.

Jacob "Ash" Sheares
Jacob "Ash" Sheares, 90 of Byhalia died Friday, June 4, 2004, at The
Gables of Green Pastures in Marysville.
He was retired from Goodyear in Marysville. He also was a farmer who was
well known for raising sheep and doing sheep shearing.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving four years in the Pacific area
with the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the Mount Victory VFW,
where he was a past commander. He also was a district two past commander
and held other positions in the VFW over the years. He was a member of
the Painter Creek Grange and the Indian Summer Sportsman Club.
A graduate of Byhalia High School, he was born March 30, 1914 in
Randolph County, W. Va. to Charles and Barbara Ella (Carr) Sheares. He
was preceded in death by brothers Nathan, Russell, Eston and Wes Sheares
and sisters Ruth Temple, Susie D'orsay and Mary Stephenson.
He is survived by his wife Louise (Thomas), who he married on Oct. 18,
1958, son Brent (Sherry) Sheares of Marysville, daughter Brenda (Jay)
Kovarik of St. Joseph, Mich., stepson Joe (Karen) Ewing of Byhalia,
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Price Funeral Home in Mount Victory
on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday. Burial
will be at a later date.

RUTH CONLEY ELKINS
Ruth Conley Elkins, 84, of North Lewisburg died Tuesday, June 1, 2004,
at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
She was a senior aide at Union Manor in Marysville, Green Hills in
Bellefontaine and Spring Meadows Care Center in Woodstock. She also
worked at Lewis Manufacturing in Marysville and was a dedicated
homemaker.
She was born May 22, 1920, in Elliott County, Ky., to the late Kirby K.
and Rissa Mae Fannin Conley and was predeceased by a daughter, Carol
Zeller and her husband, James Robert Elkins.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Hook and Michelle (Dave)
Hunter of North Lewisburg; eight grandchildren, Timothy, Teresa, Paul,
Barbara, Julie, Heather, Adam and Justin; 13 great-grandchildren, Amber,
Dustin, Shawn, Lane, Andrew, Levi, Sarah, Brian, Morgan, Kylie, Mykayla,
Michael and Austin; three great-great-grandchildren, Hope, Ian and
Cameron; and two sisters, Maggie Thompson of Florida and Muriel Thompson
of Pikeville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Union Chapel
Community Church, 9490 County Road 41, West Liberty. Pastor David
Hernandez will officiate and burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in
North Lewisburg. Friends may call at the church from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8

CHESTER A. MAYES
Chester A. Mayes, 89, of Eureka, Mont., formerly of Marysville, died
Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in
Eureka after a three-month illness.
He was retired after 12 years with the Union County Maintenance
Department and previously worked 19 years with the city of Marysville
and more than 20 years with The Scotts Company. As a young man, he
entered the Civilian Conservation Corps for a six-month enrollment and
worked for the War Department in Fort Knox, Ky., and The U.S. Forest
Service in Huntington, Calif. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie and Indian
Lake and pitching horseshoes. He will be remembered as an ornery and
beloved patriarch to his family.
He was born May 3, 1915, in Point Pleasant, W.Va., to the late Russell
and Fannie Harmon Mayes and was predeceased by a daughter, Peggy
Roberts; an infant sister, Mildred Mayes; and four sisters, Virginia
Logan, Dorothy Simpson, Opal Broderick and Lily Young. He married Irma
Lee Ziegler July 19, 1947, in Greenup, Ky., and she died Jan. 26, 1993.
He is survived by a son, Arthur (Sue) Mayes of Raymond; a daughter,
Barbara (Donald) Jolliff of Eureka; a stepdaughter, Wilma (Jerry)
Blessing of Pleasantville; a stepson, Eldon (Carole) Ziegler of Marana,
Ariz.; a son-in-law, Albert Roberts of Hopewell; 22 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Mayes of Columbus; and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mannasmith-Hale
Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Moceri will officiate and burial will be

THEODORE E. NICHOLS JR.
Theodore E. Nichols Jr., 78, of Mechanicsburg died Thursday, June 3,
2004, at Doctors Hospital in Columbus.
He was a Past Commander of Plain City VFW Darby Post 3268, a life member
of South Bloomfield VFW Post 7149 and a life member of MOCA, an honor
degree of the VFW. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the
island of Palawan.
He was born Nov. 12, 1925 to the late Theodore E. and Gertrude R.
Nichols and was predeceased by a brother, Richard "Dick" Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Carrol; a sister, Reva Wright; three
stepdaughters, Diana Smith, Debbie Seely and Paulette Smith; five
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nephews, Larry and Gary
Wright; and many friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Skillman,
McDonald and Vernon Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg and burial will be at

NATALIE KINKADE HALL
Natalie Kinkade Hall, 92, of Columbus died Monday, May 31, 2004, at
Mayfair Village Nursing Care Center in Columbus.
She was retired from O.M. Scott and Sons and was a former employee of
the Marysville Public Library. She was a longtime member of the
Marysville First Presbyterian Church.
She was born Aug. 14, 1911, in Union County to the late Robert C. and
Edith Reemsnyder Kinkade. She married Richard E. Hall June 5, 1932, and
he died June 20, 1974.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Dean) Younker of Altamonte
Springs, Fla., and Nancy (Gilbert) Gynn of Dublin; six grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Claibourne
Cemetery with the Rev. John Groat officiating.

N. RAE FERRELL
N. Rae Ferrell, 92, of Vienna, Ga., formerly of Delaware, died Jan. 7,
2003.
He was a cattle farmer and a national field representative for the
Aberdeen Angus Association. He was a former president of the Georgia
Farm Bureau, a member of the Masonic Lodge and was of the Methodist
faith. He and his wife raised camellias, a flower native to the South,
and he was a member of the Camellia Association.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Kamma Norring Phelps
Ferrell whom he married Nov. 25, 1949, in Pine Plains, N.Y.; a brother,
Donald (Norma Jane) Ferrell of Marion; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ferrell
and Donna Ferrell of Marysville, Helen Ferrell of Connecticut and Anne
(Aston) Sadler of Boulder, Colo.
Graveside services and interment of ashes will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday at the Broadway Cemetery.

WILLIAM J. "BILL" MILLER
William J. "Bill" Miller, 53, of Marysville died Sunday, May 30, 2004,
at his home.
He was a technician with Mr. Tire of Columbus and formerly worked at
W.D. Tire and General Tire. He was a veteran of the U.S.. Marine Corps,
serving in Japan, the Mediterranean and Vietnam from 1969 to 1973 and
with the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, Ky., and Schofield Barracks,
Hawaii, from 1974 to 1980. A hard worker and family man, he attended
Buckeye Valley High School.
He was born Dec. 28, 1950, and was predeceased by his parents, Omar and
Martha Ihle and a sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Tom Kerr.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Debbie Lavender Miller whom he
married Nov. 30, 1974, in Shawnee Hills; two sons, Mike and Donny Miller
of Marysville; two daughters Melody Miller of Ashley and Christy (Tim)
Misiaszek of Hilliard; a granddaughter, Sara Christine Misiaszek; three
brothers, Dan (Theresa) Miller of Marysville, Ernie (Lori) Miller of
Pomeroy and Mike (Mary) Showman of Granville; and many nieces and
nephews, including Johnny Miller of Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Underwood
Funeral Home. The Rev. Peter Miller will officiate and burial will be at
Mount Herman Cemetery in Dover Township where military honors will be

FRANK W. SMITH
Frank W. Smith, 74, of Peoria died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Memorial
Hospital of Union County following a serious two-week illness due to a
hard-fought two-year battle with cancer.
He retired from the Fulfillment Corporation of America in 1994 after
more than 20 years of service and was previously employed for more than
20 years with The Scotts Company. He graduated from North Lewisburg High
School in 1947 and served in the Ohio National Guard from June 1948 to
June 1957. He was a member of Scott's 20-Year Club, and Marysville FFA
Alumni and was a former advisor with the Liberty Feeders 4-H Club. He
was a faithful and active longtime member of the Peoria United Methodist
Church. He enjoyed raising sheep and fishing and camping at Indian Lake.
He always put the well-being of others ahead of his own needs and will
be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest
achievement was living his faith day in and day out.
He was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Peoria to the late Frank and Ella Wheeler
Smith and was predeceased by an infant daughter, Lois Kay and a
sister-in-law, Margaret Scheiderer.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Lucia Scheiderer Smith to
whom he was married June 11, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Chuckery by the Rev. Alwardt; four children, Linda (Don) Paver of
Raymond, Chief Master Sgt. Chris (Gina) Smith of Dover, Del., and Sue
Altschul and Joe Smith of Dublin; 12 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; a sister, Lida Penhorwood of Peoria; a
sister-in-law, Christine (Harvey) Kasper of Marysville; an aunt, June
Cocklin of Marysville; two uncles, Jim Wheeler and Bill Wheeler of
Columbus; two nephews and a niece; his church family; and many friends
and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mannasmith-Hale
