BLAINE EUGENE LOCKWOOD
Blaine Eugene Lockwood, 63, of Peoria died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, with
his family at his side in the Morey Center at Memorial Hospital of Union
County.
He was formerly employed with Eljer Manfucaturing and enjoyed hunting
and fishing and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as
a loving husband and father and a truly ornery one-of-a-kind man.
He was born March 26, 1941, in Peoria to the late Forrest M. and Mary I.
Sarver Lockwood and was predeceased by two brothers, Jacob Lockwood and
John Lockwood.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Terry Belt Lockwood whom he
married Sept. 26, 1983; a daughter, Amy (John) Dowell of Marysville; a
son, Donald Lockwood; a grandson, Josh (Kirsten) Dowell; a
great-grandson, Jaden Dowell; two sisters, Mary Kesterson of Marysville
and Ola (Jack) Sutherly of Richwood; four aunts, Winifred Sarver of
Heartland of Marysville, Leona Sanford of Perrysburg, Frances Sarver of
Peoria and Edith Sarver of Delaware; an uncle, Lowell Appleman; and many
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mannasmith
Fuenral Home. Paul Reynolds will officiate and burial will be at the
Raymond Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

DAWN L. CLINTON THOMPSON
Dawn L. Clinton Thompson, 52, of Detroit died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004,
at her home following a heart attack.
She was a clerk in retail sales and a longtime volunteer with Meals on
Wheels in Allegan County, Mich. She enjoyed handicrafts, especially
crocheting, and attended Detroit World Outreach Church.
She was born Aug. 25, 1952, in Denver, Colo.
She is survived by two daughters, Tresa Thompson of Milford Center and
Malissa Little of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a son, Andrew Thompson of
Middlebury, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Christian, Issiac, Samantha,
Andrew, Emily, Aletha, Ariana, Justin and Tahira.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Detroit World
Outreach and at a later date in Marysville.

HELENA ELIAS JOHNSON
Helena Elias Johnson, 82, of Marysville, formerly of Panama City, Fla.,
died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
She was retired from the auction business. She attended the Marysville
First United Methodist Church and participated with the Christian
Quilters Guild at the church. She was active with the Windsor and
Community Seniors, taking bus trips and playing bingo. She enjoyed
drawing, calligraphy, oil painting and flower gardening.
She was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Struthers to the late Andy and Mary
Kotick Elias and was predeceased by her husband, James Dresden Johnson
in 1999 and a brother, Andrew Elias.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Rick) Ramm of Marysville; two
granddaughters, Kimberly (Douglas) Ryan of Milford, Mich., and Kelly
Ramm of Grandview; a grandson, Keith (Paula) Ramm of Dublin; five
great-grandchildren, Rachel, Reagan, Lake, Erin Grace and Kathleen Joy;
a sister, Pauline Petro of Struthers; and a nephew, George (Cheryl)
Petro of Salem.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Underwood
Funeral Home where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the
service. The Rev. Blaine Keene will officiate.

for the Christian Quilters Guild in care of the church. Envelopes will

STANLEY J. SOBAS
Stanley J. Sobas, 71, of rural Marysville died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004,
at his home.
He graduated at the age of 16 from LaRue High School where he was active
with the FFA. He then started his own contract farming business. He was
drafted at the age of 18 and proudly served his country for 2 1/2 years.
The Korean armistice was signed just as he received orders to ship out.
He worked for the National Can Company in Marion for 18 years as a
journeyman maintenance man and was a past president of Local 740
UAW/CIO. He was a quarter horse breeder, farmer and horse show judge and
founded Double S Farm in 1961 and was a successful quarter horse
breeder, standing a number of A.Q.H.A. champion stallions. Among them
were his most successful sire, A.Q.H.A. champion and multiple A.Q.H.A.
champion producer, Majors Wimpy. Other outstanding and successful
stallions who stood at Double S Farm were A.Q.H.A. champions, Power Rio,
Big Ed Beware and Sizzling Something.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and life
member of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse
Association and Palomino Horse Breeders Association. He was a past vice
president of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and received the
President's Award from the O.Q.H.A. given by president Cliff Nash. He
received the Governor's Award given by Gov. George Voinovich to O.Q.H.A.
board members for their vision, foresight and courage in bringing the
concept of the All American Quarter Horse Congress to fruition in
Columbus.
He was an approved judge for the American Paint Horse Association,
Palomino Horse Breeders Association and American Horse Show Association
(Over Fence Division) (emeritus). He judged classes at many prestigious
shows, including divisions at the Michigan State Fair and Ohio State
Fair.
He was born June 9, 1933, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Walter and
Angeline Kurczyk Sobas and was predeceased by an infant son, Stanley
Michael and three brothers, William, Walter Jr. and Peter.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lena Lee Sobas whom he married
July 26, 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LaRue; a son, Pat
Sobas of Marysville; a daughter-in-law, Kim (Alexander) Sobas of
Marysville; grandsons, Collin of Marysville and Jeff Leopard of
Cardington; a granddaughter, Darian Elizabeth Sobas of Marysville; two
brothers, Michael (Sherri) Sobas of Marion and Chris Sobas of New
Bloomington; and a sister, Terri Sobas of Melcroft, Pa.
Memorial services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral
Home in Richwood and private burial will be held at the Maskill Cemetery
at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the
funeral home where veterans services will be held at the conclusion of
the memorial services.

SANDRA L. PEARSON ZIGLER
Sandra L. Zigler, 59, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004,
after long-term complications from lupus.
She was born in Kenton and raised in Marysville.
She was predeceased by her parents, Warren E. Pearson and E. Lucille
Pearson Bishop; her grandparents, Julius and Imo Kezerta; and her
husband, Robert L. Zigler.
She is survived by a daughter, Angela Rowland of Springfield; three
sons, Robert E. (Tracie) Zigler of Chehalis, Wash., Nathan L. (Lanie)
Zigler of Phoenix and J. Clay Zigler; a stepson, Gene Zigler of Phoenix;
a stepdaughter, Tammy Biskup of Bradenton, Fla.; and a sister, Patricia
A. Bishop of Phoenix.
Cremation and memorial services are being arranged at the Best Funeral
Home in Phoenix and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville.

MABEL LORENA EASTMAN
Mabel Lorena Eastman, 98, formerly of Richwood, died Monday, Sept. 27,
2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was born Sept. 18, 1906, in Union County to the late Levi and Mary
Etta Longberry Rockhold and was predeceased by a son, five brothers,
three sisters and two grandchildren. She married Mitchell Eastman Feb.
20, 1933, in Kentucky and he died Feb. 7, 1992.
She is survived by a son, Ronald L. Eastman of Mount Victory; eight
daughters, Betty Rea of Gahanna, Daisy Tevis of Rushsylvania, Mary
(Harold) McNeal, Susie (William) Bumgarner, Sally Mills and Patricia
Reid of Marysville and Shirley (Richard) Armstrong and Peggy Eastman of
West Mansfield; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Mary) Rockhold of York
Center; and three sisters, Hazel (Harold) Gardner of Westerville, Fannie
(Paul) Hoffman of Richwood and Florence Fisher of Venice, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the York
Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Cheney will officiate. Friends may call from 10
to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood.

CHERYNN D. REEBEL
Cherynn D. Reebel, 43, of LaRue died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, from
injuries sustained in an automobile accident south of LaRue.
She was a 1979 graduate of North Union High School. She was in the
banking business for 23 years and worked as a banker at the Honda Call
Center. She had formerly worked for National City Bank. She had been
active with 4-H, worked with the Elgin West PTO and enjoyed gardening,
flower arranging, attending the North Union Alumni Banquet and shopping.

The true joy and love of her life were her family and dear friends.
She was born April 15, 1961, in Delaware County to Robert Allen and
Marilyn Moore Graham who survive in Magnetic Springs. She was
predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Walter Graham; maternal
grandparents, Elmer E. and Dorothy V. Moore; her grandparents-in-law,
Lawrence and Vinnie Reebel and Virgil and Nina Stoneburner; and a
nephew, Joel Graham.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Andy L.
Reebel whom she married Sept. 11, 1982, at the Magnetic Springs United
Methodist Church; her parents, Robet Allen and Marilyn V. Moore Graham
of Magnetic Springs; two sons, Raven R. and Drake M.; two brothers, Jeff
(Greta) Graham of Richwood and Micheal Graham of Cleveland; her mother-
and father-in-law, Neason and Patty Reebel of Prospect; paternal
grandmother, Jean I. Graham of Marysville; brothers-in-law, Rick (June)
Reebel of Sunbury and Mark (Debbie) Reebel of Marion; niece and nephews,
Tara and Sasha Reebel and Stefan and Gregory Graham; a great-aunt and
-uncle, Bill and Fern Ulrich of Cleveland; and special friends, Shellie
Styer, Judy Beery and Cindy Schrote.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral

VIRGINIA LIPSCOMB COX MACIVOR
Virginia Lipscomb Cox MacIvor, 91, of Brevard, N.C., a longtime resident
of Marysville, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at her home at College Walk
Retirement Community with her family at her side.
She retired in 1976 as a Latin and mathematics teacher at Marysville
High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of
Marysville where she served as elder and trustee and was active in the
Presbyterian Women's Association. She was a member of The Woman's
Parliament, Silver Cross Circle of King's Daughters and Daughters of the
American Colonists. She was the organizing president of the original
Women's Hospital Auxiliary at Memorial Hospital of Union County in 1952.

She was co-valedictorian of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, Pa.,
attended Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College, and
graduated cum laude in 1934 from the Ohio State University with degrees
in mathematics and Latin. Following graduation, she was assistant
counselor at the OSU College of Arts and Sciences. She was a member of
Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Phi Beta Kappa national scholastic
honorary.
She traveled extensively with her husband throughout the world, touring
Asia, Africa, South America, Europe, Malaysia, the Pacific and the
Mediterranean. A three-month tour of Europe and its culture with her
grandmother in the summer of 1930 bore a lifelong impact.
She was born May 19, 1913, in Bristol, Tenn., to the late Roy Lipscomb
and May McNeer Spangler Cox and was predeceased by a sister, Frances Cox
Hoopes. She married Robert Jewell MacIvor June 22, 1935, and he died
July 19, 2003.
She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Virginia MacIvor (Dr. Henning) Meyn
of Brevard; a son, Angus Neil (Roberta) MacIvor of Willoughby; a
grandson, Dr. Till (Laura) MacIvor Meyn of Poland, Ohio; two
granddaughters, Hanna Spangler Meyn of San Diego and Flora Margaret
MacIvor of Willoughby; two sisters, Lucille (Gilman) Kirk of Columbus
and Ruth (R.W.) Williams of Brunswick, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews,
including John MacIvor, Peggy Hendricks and Louise Gordon of Marysville;
Dr. Duncan MacIvor of Virginia, William S. Hoopes Jr. of Delaware,
Jacqueline Johnson of Tennessee, Gilman D. Kirk Jr. and Richard H. Kirk
of Columbus, Lucy Kirk of New York City, James S. Kirk of San Francisco
and Carol Holloway of Georgia.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First
Presbyterian Church of Marysville. The Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Mori and the
Rev. John M. Groat will officiate and burial will be held at Oakdale
Cemetery at a later date.

JOSEPH M. SALOMON
Joseph M. Salomon, 96, of Richwood died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at his
home. A resident of Richwood for the last six years, he formerly lived
in Newark and Cleveland.
He was a retired union steel worker, working with the Chase Brass and
Copper Company in Cleveland for 50 years. He was of the Catholic faith
and enjoyed sports, especially football and the OSU Buckeyes and
Cleveland Browns. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spending
time with his cat, Romeo. His family was very important to him and any
time they got together, it was special for him.
He was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Mary
Salomon and was predeceased by a son, Joseph A. Salomon; two brothers,
Rudy and Edward Salomon; a sister, Marie Slogar; and his wife, Ann H.
Skerbec Salomon.
He is survived by a daughter, JoAnn (Bill) Brown of Richwood;
grandchildren, Rebecca (Michael Bonaventura) Jeserinac, Cena (Chris)
Ladefoged, Reddy (Michelle) Brown, Ray Jezerinac, Joe Jezerinac, Mike
(Candra) Brown, Ben (Mindy) Brown and Steve Brown; great-grandchildren,
Alex Brown, Dylan Brown, Rachel Ladefoged, Adam Brown, Paul Ladefoged,
Rhett Brown and Ashton Brown.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis
DeSales Catholic Church in Newark. The Rev. Robert Penhallurick will
officiate and burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call
from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood
where the Rev. David Poliafico will officiate at a prayer service at 5
p.m.

DONALD "DC" TRAVIS
Donald "DC" Travis, 72, of Delaware died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 27,
2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
He was a parts delivery man for Tow Lift Inc. of Hilliard. He was
affiliated with Troy Chapel and was a member of the Knights of Pythias
Lodge of Prospect, Independent Order of Foresters, Morrow County Antique
Tractor and Equipment Sociation, Marion County Steam and Gas Engine
Society and Delaware County Antique Farm Machinery Association.
He was born April 15, 1932, in Newark to the late Ross and Gertrude
Yarhouse Travis and was predeceased by a son, Scott Travis and a
brother-in-law, Dr. John Paugh.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan; two daughters, Besta
(Gary) Hale of Waldo and Rae Jean (Patrick) Spryn of Delaware; six
grandchildren, Amy Travis, Andrew and Elaine Halle, Colton and Katie
Barnhart and Danielle Spryn; and a sister, Marjorie Paugh of Huntington
Beach, Calif.

CAROLYN D. WIANT
Carolyn D. Wiant, 75, of Cable died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Mercy
Medical Center in Springfield.
She retired as treasurer of the Triad School District in June 1994. She
was a member of the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church where she
enjoyed playing the organ and served as church treasurer. She was a
member of Portia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in North Lewisburg.
She was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Hornell, N.Y., to the late Luther D. and
Viola C. Trinkler Burdell and was predeceased by two sisters, Frances
and Deloris and a nephew, Brian Wiant.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles G. Wiant; a
daughter, Sandra K. (Daniel W.) Gaver of Mechanicsburg; two sons, Steve
(Becky) Wiant of Marysville and Tim C. (Cindy) Wiant of River Falls,
Wis.; six grandchildren, Zach Gaver and Andy, Tyler, Molly, Jesse and
Laura Wiant; a brother, Daniel C. (Jean) Burdell of Hornell; a
brother-in-law, Tom (Ilo) Wiant of Zanesfield; and seven nieces and
nephews, Sharon Kelly, Gary Burdell, Susan Polmanteer, Dan Burdell, Amy
McMichael, Jere L. Ferguson and Julia Baker.

EDMOND DEAN KELLEY
Edmond Dean Kelley, 52, of Bellefontaine died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004,
at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was a stock handler for Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. for 11
years.
He was born July 11, 1952, in Ishpeming, Mich., and was predeceased by
his father, John Kelley.
He is survived by his mother, Darlene Grondin McVannel of New Haven,
Mich.; a son, Brandon (Laura) Kelley of Bellefontaine; a daughter,
Jasmine Kelley of Marysville; four grandchildren, Shelby Kelley, Courtni
Pippen, Jonathan Kelley and Aubrey Kelley; three brothers, J.R. McVannel
of Detroit, Mich., Danny McVannel of Florence, Wis., and Duane McVannel
of King, N.C.; and two sisters, Lana Deroacha of Champion, Mich., and
Lynn Cox of Ishpeming.

MARCELLA A. BLEVINS
Marcella A. Blevins, 60, of Woodstock died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in
Tulsa, Okla.
She was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed making cookies and playing
bingo. She loved loving her grandchildren. She and her husband would
have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary today.
She was born June 12, 1944, in Piqua, to the late Homer and Martha Ella
Zelinski Moffitt.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard E. Blevins; a daughter, Brenda
Blevins and her friend, Ron Cantrell of Donnelsville; a son, Bernard A.
"Pete" (Jenny) Blevins of Columbus; six grandchildren, Jason, Lisa,
Lacy, Stephanie, Cassie and Bubba; two great-grandchildren, Logan and
Michael; a sister Marilyn (Bob) Brooks of North Fort Myers, Fla.; two
brothers, Michael (Janice) Moffitt of Conifer, Colo., and Mathew "Tony"
Moffitt of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Freewill Baptist Church, 332 W. Bennett Street. Pastor Don Hix will

MARGARET ANN GEORGE ALLEMANG
Margaret Ann George Allemang, 79, of Marysville died Monday, Sept. 20,
2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
A homemaker, she was a stenographer at Nestle's before she was married.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was
confirmed and was active in the women's circle and taught Sunday School.

She was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Franklin County to the late Wilbur Nelson
and Edith Scheiderer George and was predeceased by three brothers, John,
Paul and Tom George and a sister, Joan Tutolo.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Randall J. Allemang whom she
married June 7, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church; a daughter, Kathy
(William) Farel of Worthington; two sons, Randy (Jane) Allemang of
Maineville and Mike (Lynda) Allemang of Marysville; seven grandchildren,
Allen and Tracy Farel, Matthew and Ashley Allemang and Brendan, Spencer
and Brittany Allemang; a brother, Jim (Nancy) George of Marysville; a
sister, Mary (Jim) Akers of North Carolina; and four sisters-in-law, Kay
Beister or Arizona, Joan Jewell of North Carolina, Thelma Allemang of
Hilliard and Vivian Allemang of Pennsylvania.

GEORGE R. CAHOON
George R. Cahoon, 82, of Milford Center, formerly of Urbana, died
Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Dayton.
He worked 26 years at the Urbana Tool and Die Co. before retirement then
worked at Dayton Reliable Tool and Die for 15 years. He served with the
8th Army Air Corps in England as a member of a B-17 ground crew. He was
a member of Harmony Lodge 8, York Rite, Urbana Chapter 530 of the Order
of the Eastern Star and Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church of Urbana.
He was an avid fisherman, card player and general handyman and enjoyed
his family and many friends.
He was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Vinton County to the late William E. and
Clarinda Zinn Cahoon and was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Martha
Weng Cahoon whom he married July 25, 1945; five sisters; and three
brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Pauline "Polly" Poland Cahoon
whom he married July 20, 1993; a son, John (Virginia) Cahoon of
Chillicothe; a daughter, Pennie (Stephen) Brown of Urbana;
grandchildren, Teresa Cahoon and John J. (Andrea) Cahoon of Chillicothe,
Michael (Meegan) Brown of Perrysburg and Meghan (Tony) Santucci of
London; great-grandchildren, Quinn Santucci and Lily Eades;
stepchildren, Randy (Cindy) Poland and Chris (Susie) Poland of Milford
Center, Tim (Bobbie) Poland of Elizabeth, Colo., Jeff (Shelley) Poland
of Littleton, Colo., and Kenda (Mark) Zasadzinski of Marysville; and

TOMMIE LEE FORD JR.
Tommie Lee Ford Jr., 30, of Biloxi, Miss., formerly of Bellefontaine
died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Biloxi Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of the Sons of the VFW Post 3320 in Marysville and Sons
of American Veterans of Bellefontaine. He was an avid Bengals fan and
enjoyed country music, dancing and karaoke.
He was born Dec. 18, 1973, in Kenton and is survived by his wife,
Michelle L. McKinney Ford; his mother; Winona A. (Bennie) Cavins of
Louisa, Ky.; his father, Tommie L. (Sandy) Ford Sr. of Roundhead;
brothers, Edwin A. Ford, Carman "Leroy" Deardorff and Stephen M.
Garrison of Bellefontaine; a sister, Brandy Neeley-Ford of Roundhead;
several stepbrothers and stepsisters; Grandparents, Joyce P. Sanford of
Milford Center and Robert F. Deardorff of Bellefontaine; six aunts and
seven uncles; many cousins, nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
The Rev. Glen Freshour will officiate at a Celebration of Life service
which will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Indian Lake Church of the

PERRI LYNNE EYERS
Perri Lynne Eyers, 37, of Marysville, formerly of Worthington and
Westerville, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, in the comfort of her home
with her husband at her side after an inspirational fight against
cancer.
A loving wife and mother, she treasured her home life and found
unmatched joy spending time with her husband and children. She was a
faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and formerly
worked as a nursing assistant and home health aide. She graduated from
Thomas Worthington High School in 1986 where she lettered in swimming.
She valued her family and devoted her life to taking care of people.
She was born Feb. 11, 1967, in Paulding to Jerry and Kathy Copenhaver
Sipe and was predeceased by an infant daughter, Jennifer Robin Eyers.
She is survived by her parents of Worthington; her devoted husband of 17
years, Daniel R. Eyers to whom she was married Jan. 24, 1987, at the
North Community Lutheran Church by the Rev. Carl Roepcke and the Rev.
Norbert Lemke, S.J.; four children, Bryan, 17, Jessica, 16, Scott, 13
and Juliet, 6; a sister, Lori (Steve) Staley of Lewis Center; a brother,
Tracy Sipe of Columbus; her father- and mother-in-law, Robert and
Barbara Eyers of Westerville; her paternal grandfather, Charles Sipe of
Monroeville, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Cindy (Mike) Williams of Delaware;
two brothers-in-law, Chris (Amy) Eyers of Cincinnati and Andy (Karen)
Eyers of Mequon, Wisc.; nieces and nephews, Katie, Shannon, Rebecca,

ROBERT EUGENE "BOB" JAMES
Robert Eugene "Bob" James, 74, of Marysville died Saturday, Sept. 18,
2004, at The Gables at Green Pastures.
He retired from Denison Abex after 35 years as a machinist a was a
member of Christ the Rock Church where he had held leadership positions.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean
War, and was a life member of VFW Post 3320. He enjoyed gardening, birds
and traveling.
He was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Franklin County to the late Mark and Grace
James and was predeceased by his wife, Fanny, in 2001.
He is survived by three daughters, Rose (Gary) Miller and Jennifer
(Shane) Smith of Marysville and Jessie Gleaves James of Marion; five
sons, Robert (Redeana) James of Nolanville, Texas, Timothy James of
Kenton, Glenn (Jane) James of Mount Victory and Andy (Irain) James and
Leroy James of Marysville; 23 grandchildren; several
great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Angie) James of Mesa, Ariz; his
former wife and friend, Marlene James of Marysville; and many special
friends, including Jim Simpson of Marysville.

FREIDA B. FARMWALD WHITMER
Frieda B. Farmwald Whitmer, 78, of Amlin died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at
the Convalarium at Indian Run.
She was a member of Sharon Mennonite Church in Plain City and enjoyed
volunteering at the Mennonite Mission Store, the Country Closet. She
enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
She was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Plain City to the late Daniel and Emma
Miller Farmwald and was predeceased by her stepfather, Levi Miller; two
sisters, Frances Mae Yutzy on April 21, 1995, and Mary Leona Yutzy on
Oct. 24, 2003. She married Pete Edward Whitmer Dec. 3, 1944, and he died
Sept. 6, 1970.
She is survived by four sons, Mark (Diana) Whitmer, Don (Collette)
Whitmer and Jerry (Beth) Whitmer of Plain City and John (Cinda) Whitmer
of New Albany; grandchildren, Rebecca (Todd) Helmuth of New Paris, Ind.,
Rachel Whitmer of Harrisonburg, Va., Marlene Whitmer, Danae and Malesa
Whitmer and Cole and Pete Whitmer of Plain City and Marcia (Justin)
Sheasby of Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Helmuth of

Emma E. Crager, 80, of Plain City died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at
Heartland of Marysville.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who took
great pride in the Ricky Allen Farm owned and operated by her husband
and family. She was a 1943 graduate of Canaan High School.
She was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Springfield to the late Clarence and
Bertha Mae Mowell and was predeceased by her step-parents, Alex and Mary
Lamb; a son, Ricky Allen Crager; a grandson, William James Crager; a
brother, Harold Mowell; and two sisters, Ida Hawk and Ruth Harsh.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Crager Sr. whom she married
March 15, 1945; three sons, James A. (Patty) Crager Jr. of LaRue and
John E. (Cheryl) Crager and David E. (Michelle) Crager of Plain City; a
daughter, Susie M. Jeffers of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Alex
(Colleen) Crager of Westerville, Philip (Bethany) Crager of Columbus,

Lisa Lynn Edwards, 38, of Marysville died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at her

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and thoroughly enjoyed
watching her children grow and play in many sports. She was a member of
New Beginnings Church in Marysville and enjoyed participating in her
church. She was a volunteer at the James Cancer Center and worked in the
customer service department at The Scotts Company
She was born June 20, 1966 in Columbia City, Ind., and was predeceased
by her grandparents, Fred and Eunice Carlin.
She is survived by her father, Wayne (Verna) Carlin of Warsaw, Ind.; her
mother, Tamra Menzie Carlin of Pierceton, Ind.; her husband, Mark
Edwards of Marysville; three daughters, Chelsea and Taylor Hite and
Abbey Edwards of Marysville; stepchildren, Spencer Edwards and Leslie
Edwards of Mechanicsburg; her grandfather, Cloyce (Patsy) Menzie of

Ezra Benjamin Thomas Batty, 6 months, of West Milton died Sunday, Sept.
12, 2004, at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. Local survivors

BARBARA ANNA MODER
Barbara Anna Moder, 93, of Marysville died peacefully Monday, Sept. 13,
2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
She was employed as the secretary/treasurer for Penn Oil Company for 48
years until her retirement at age 79 in 1990. She was a faithful and
devout member of the First English Lutheran Church in Marysville since
1933 and always considered her Christian upbringing her greatest
blessing. She was baptized April 16, 1911, at St. Paul Lutheran Church,
graduated from Chuckery High School and Darby High School and attended
Capital University. She taught primary grades at St. John Lutheran
School in Decatur, Ind., from 1930 to 1933 before moving back to the
Marysville area in 1933. She especially enjoyed traveling and her most
rewarding trip occurred in 1983 when she traveled to East Germany to
celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther.
She was born April 6, 1911, in Chuckery to the late George and Anna
Renner Vollrath and was predeceased by a sister, Hulda Rausch and a
brother, Hugo Vollrath. She married Harold Moder June 17, 1933, in
Decatur and he died in January 1975.
She is survived by a sister, Florence Wuertz of Dublin; a brother, Carl
(Jane) Vollrath of Columbus, nieces and nephews, Beverly (Buell)
Bassette, Norma (Jerry) Ruble, Edna (Jerry) Woodard, George (Haila)
Wuertz, Don (Karma) Wuertz, Dennis (Carolyn) Wuertz, Ann Bigelow, Jean
(Walter) Kasic, Mary (Ken) Rott, John (Elizabeth) Vollrath, David
Vollrath and Philip (Ruth) Vollrath, who served as her caregivers in
recent years; great-nieces and -nephews; many friends; and her church
family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First English
Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Genzman will officiate and burial will

FRANK H. GEORGE
Frank H. George, 68, of Groveport and formerly of Plain City and Tucson,
Ariz., died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004.
Born Oct. 9, 1936, in Plain City, he was the son of the late Frank H.
and Marjorie Minshall George, DVM.
A 1954 graduate of Plain City High School, he was the school treasurer
for London City Schools and Jonathan Alder School system for a number of
years and previously worked for Nationwide Insurance for 11 years and
Glicks Furniture. He attended Columbia Heights United Methodist Church
and Glenwood United Methodist Church and was a former member of Lincoln
Village Kiwanis and Plain City Lions Club. He enjoyed the beautiful
sunsets at his vacation home on Otsego Lake, where he loved to fish and
boat.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Servis Wilson George, whom he
married in 1981 at Glenwood United Methodist Church; daughters, Kim
(Lance) Crawford of Dallas, Tex. and Kay (Tony) Masters of Hilliard;
stepchildren, Rob (Theresa) Wilson and Linda (Kenny) Parker of Columbus
and Dave Wilson of Milford Center; grandchildren, Ty and Kelly Crawford
and A.J. and Chad Masters; and step-grandchildren, Jason, Natalie and
Josh Wilson, Zach, Ashley and Caitlin Wilson and Noah, Jacob, Benjamin
and Hannah Parker.

Earl Lee Simmons, 82, of 149 W. Bomford St., Richwood died Sunday, Sept.
12, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
He was born Feb. 15, 1922, on Sivey Road in Claibourne Township to the
late Herbert Lee and Willmetta Brown Simmons. On Dec. 20, 1969, he
married Lavaria R. Smith and she died March 9, 1993.
Survivors include a son, Dan L. (Carol) Simmons of Delaware; four
stepsons, William H. Reese, Richard E. (Barbara) Reese and Gary L.
Reese, all of Richwood and Robert W. Reese of Marion; two stepdaughters,
Sue A. (Jacob) Sarver and Cindy K. Smith, both of Richwood; two
grandchildren, Kurtis L. (Samantha) Simmons of Marysville and Amanda J.
(Corey) Mays of Delaware; 10 step-grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and 28 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Harold B. (Ruth) Simmons of Richwood and Gail F. Simmons of West Palm
Beach, Fla.; and two nephews, Stuart A. Simmons of Dayton and Donald B.
(Carole) Simmons of Kentucky.
He was a member of the Richwood First Baptist Church and attended the
Claibourne and Richwood school systems. A welder, farmer and
housepainter, he was a U.S. Army veteran in World War II, serving at
Camp Butner, N.C.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Myers,
Fla.; and Barksdale Field in Shreveport, La.
Friends may call at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood Tuesday from
5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home
with the Rev. Barb Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Claibourne

Marjorie Kandel, 94, of Urbana died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at the
McAuley Center.
She was born Jan. 7, 1910, in Champaign County to the late Samuel H. and
Maude Kiser Allgyer and was predeceased by a daughter, Patti Kindell in
2001; two brothers; two sisters; and on May 22, 1987, by her husband,
Pearl D. Kandel.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Jerry) Trout of Sugarcreek; a
son, Phillip (Pat) Kandel of Kingscreek; grandchildren, John, Sandy,
Kenny, Mark and Missy of Piqua, Jeri (Mike) Harman of West Liberty, Kim
(Mark) Bevan of West Liberty and Jeff (Pam) Stillings of Kingscreek;
great-grandchildren, Amanda and Tony Harman, Corey and Andy Daulton and

Annabelle Reed, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Heartland of

She was retired from Owens Illinois after 40 years of service and was a
member of Southside Church of Christ.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ora and Rose Elam; her husband,
Ralph; a son, William; two sisters, Mary and Juanita; and two brothers,
Willie and Watson.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Glenna; granddaughters, Roseanne
and Tina; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Rose Marie and Billy.

RICHARD JUNIOR CARPENTER
Richard Junior Carpenter, 72, of Bellefontaine, formerly of West
Mansfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was retired from the East Liberty Elevator after 30 years of
dedicated service. He will be remembered as an independent and
hard-working man.
He was born April 30, 1932, in Newcomerstown to the late Richard and
Clara Durbin Carpenter and was predeceased by two brothers, Ben and Dick
Carpenter; and three sisters, Florence Hatfield, Cleva Mae Rumor and
Mary Moore.
He is survived by a son, Randy Carpenter of Sidney; and several nieces
and nephews.
The Rev. David Wilson will officiate at graveside services which will be
held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Huntsville Cemetery.

AMON "MAC" MCDANIEL
Amon "Mac" McDaniel, 82, of Marysville, formerly of Dayton, died
Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
He was retired from the Dayton Country Club after many years of service
and the Dayton Bicycle Club. He was a member of the Turner Road Church
of Christ.
He was predeceased by seven brothers, including his twin brother, Damon,
and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth; a son, David
(Donna) McDaniel of North Canton; a daughter, Pam (Roger) Williams of
Raymond; two granddaughters, Kara Beth Kilby and Caroline Williams;
three grandsons, Robert McDaniel, Nate Williams and Kevin Williams; and
a host of other relatives and friends.

RUTH ROMAINE DEAN BARCLAY
Ruth Romaine Dean Barclay, 92, a resident of Milcrest Nursing Center,
died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
A retired licensed realtor, she was an associate of HER Realty in
Columbus during the 1970s. She was also a former waitress and hostess at
Doersam's Restaurant at Broad and High streets in Columbus and a former
employee of Highlights for Children. She and her husband enjoyed
summer-long vacations in Whitefish Falls, Ontario, Canada, for many
years.
She was born April 12, 1912, in Kingston to the late Oliver and Della
Ackley Dean and was raised on her family's farm in Ross County. She was
predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Barclay; a sister, Agnes
Nicholson; three brothers, Kenneth, Norman and Elwood Dean; a
stepdaughter, Eloise Wingate; and a stepson, Kenneth Barclay.
She is survived by a son, Melvin E. (Ann) Gangluff Jr. of Marysville;
three stepchildren, Robert, Eugene and Marge Barclay; a
stepdaughter-in-law, Sarah Barclay; six grandchildren, Ted (Sherry)
Gangluff of Columbus, Tom Gangluff of Hilliard, Sheri Gangluff of the
United Arab Emirates, Tami Gangluff of Galloway; Carla (Neil) Baker of
Marysville and Stephen (Shana) Gangluff of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight
great-grandchildren, Amy Brandstaff, Anthony and Micheal Gangluff, Jamie
Terry, Joey McCann and Eli, Audrey and Keely Baker; two
great-great-grandchildren; Cameron and Ryan; many step-grandchildren and

Gladys Reba Lunch Hogsett, 71, of Plain City, formerly of Columbus, died
Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Doctors Hospital West.
She worked at the Sears Distribution Center for more than 10 years and
enjoyed shopping and crocheting.
She was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Williamson, W.Va., and was predeceased by
her father, Lawrence Patterson; her mother, Thelma Whitt Roberts; a
sister, Roxie Smith; and a brother, Lawrence Patterson.
She is survived by a son, David (Brenda) Lynch of Plain City; and a
sister, Mattie May of Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ferguson
Funeral Home in Plain City. The Rev. Don Hilkerbaumer will officiate and
burial will be at Forest Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. today.

HELEN JOYCE THOMAS
Helen Joyce Thomas, 74, of Marion died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 1,
2004, at Marion General Hospital.
A graduate of Harding High School, she was a retired care giver for the
elderly.
She was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Marion to the late Delbert and Opal Coffey
Ramsey. She married David Thomas June 4, 1960, and he died Sept. 25,
2002.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathy (Tim) Smith of Creekside, Pa.; a
son, Terry Rouse of Raymond; two granddaughters, Traci Rouse and Kara
Rouse of Marysville; a longtime friend, Mary Jessie of Marion; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gehm-Ballinger
Funeral Home in Prospect. The Rev. Fred Cheney will officiate and burial
will be at the Radnor Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the
service.

ROBERT WEBSTER LAIRD
Robert Webster Laird, 70, of Tampa, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at
Town & Country Hospital in Tampa.
He was a member of the last graduating class of Broadway High School in
1951 and excelled in basketball and baseball. He served in the U.S. Army
from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. He was a member of
Ben Franklin Lodge 719 F&AM, Fellowship Lodge 265 F&AM, Tampa Valley
Scottish Rite and Egypt Temple Shrine. He was the proud owner of a 1966
Corvair Monza convertible and was a former president of the Egypt Temple
Classic Car Club and Tampa's Vintage Chevrolet Club of America chapter.
He was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Columbus to the late Claude C. and Mabel
Campbell Laird.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; three daughters, Debbie (Ed) Spencer of
Hamilton, Deanna (Charlie) Childress of Akron and Karen Laird of Tampa;
two brothers, Gilbert M. Laird of Marysivlle and Richard (Pat) Laird of
Richwood; and two nephews, James C. Laird and his daughters, Erica Laird
and Meagan of Broadway and Charles S. (Leslie) Laird and their children,
Allison Laird, Whitney Laird and Dan Laird of Greenville, Ind.
A memorial service was held in Tampa Thursday with Dr. Hank Lindstrom
officiating.

JOHN ROBERT REYNOLDS
John Robert Reynolds, 80, of Rushylvania died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at
Heartland of Bellefontaine.
A retired construction foreman for United Telephone, he served in the
Army during World War II. A member of the Ridgeway Church of Christ he
loved to fish and hunt and loved his family very much.
He was born May 24, 1924 in Marion to the late Raymond and Roxie Neva
Gordon Reynolds. He was also preceded in death by a half brother,
Sherman Craig.
He married Louis Crevison Reynolds on Aug. 28, 1948 in Newport, Ky. and
she survives. Also surviving are: two sons, William John (Cheryl)
Reynolds of Olympia, Wa., and Robert Alan (Shirley) Reynolds of Plain
City; four daughters, Jean Ann (David) Downey of Marysville; Karen Sue
(Victor) Wilcoxon of Manassas, Va.; Beverly Kay (Stephen) Langstaff of
Springfield; and Barbara Lynn (Gene) Hunt of Bellefontaine; two half
brothers, Frank (June) Craig of Bellefontaine; and Paul (Judy) Craig of
Huntsville; and a half sister, Mary Fulton of Spartanburg, S.C. He  is
also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Eichholtz Funeral
Home in Rushylvania.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with
the Rev. Tim Sherer presiding.

Dorothy G. Herron, 83, of Woodstock died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her
home.
A homemaker, she was dedicated to her family and God. She was retired
from Siemens after 28 years of service.
She was born Nov. 17, 1920, in West Jefferson to the late James and
Clara Marie Van Gundy O'Brien and was predeceased by her husband,
Raymond W. Herron; two grandchildren, Roxanne Watkins and Doug Perry; a
great-grandson, Jacob Detwiler; and two brothers, James and Henry "Bud"
O'Brien.
She is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Robert) Baker, Brenda (Ed)
Perry and Gayle (Bill) Watkins; two sons, Gene (Barbara) Herron and Gary
"Woody" (Cindy) Herron; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a
great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Iolene Snodgrass, Hazel McKenzie
and Rebecca (Lowel) Wilson; three sisters-in-law, Sara O'Brien, Jo Ann
O'Brien and Lydia Wood; and a brother-in-law, Vernon "Bud" Herron.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Skillman,
McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. The Rev. David Dernlan
will officiate and, according to the wishes of the deceased, her body
will be cremated and burial will be held at the family's convenience.
