Community and Seasoned Citizens currently has 10 openings available for those who are eligible to receive the Union County Senior Citizens Food Commodity Box.
In order to qualify, one must be 60 years of age, a resident of Union County and meet income guidelines of $1354 for a household of one and $1832 for a household of two. Interested individuals will be required to fill out an application with verification of age and address, although proof of income is not required.
Each box weighs 30 pounds and contains two half-gallons of juice, two boxes of cereal, shelf-safe milk, pasta, canned meats or pasta sauce, two cans of fruit packed in their own juice, two cans of vegetables and a two-pound box of processed cheese. The boxes are provided by the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
Applicants may provide the name of a proxy to pick up their box for them if they are unable. Under certain circumstances, delivery services may be available. Food boxes are delivered the fourth Friday of each month.
For those who are currently receiving a food box, the CASC center at 900 Columbus Avenue has surveys available from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank seeking feedback regarding potential changes to the box’s contents.
