Herbs 101: Growing, Using and Preserving Fresh Herbs
Saturday, June 8, from 10-11 a.m. at the Union County, OSU Extension Office, 18000 Route 4, in the Buckeye Room
Cooking with herbs is an easy way to add flavor to foods without adding large amounts of salt, sugar or fat. Herbs also contain important antioxidants that may help protect against diabetes, cancer and heart disease. The increased variety of herbs available to choose from at farmers markets and grocery stores has made it easier to include them in meal planning and cooking.
Do you want to cook with fresh herbs, but don’t really know how? Fresh herbs are a great way to add color, flavor and interest to your meals. Are you left with herbs and don’t know what to do with them? Herbs 101: Growing, Using and Preserving Fresh Herbs will help show you how. The program is a joint effort between OSU Extension Family and Consumer Sciences and the Union County Master Gardener Association. It will explore the world of herbs and delve into how to grow, preserve and use herbs in cooking. The program includes food tastings of herb butter and dip. The Union County Master Gardeners will also provide a free herb plant to take with you, to start your own herb garden. A fee will be collected at the time of registration. Registration is due by May 30 and space is limited, so register soon.
Those interested may register at the OSU Extension Office, Union County, or mail the registration fee to 18000 Route 4, Suite E.
