The Pioneer runners of Jonathan Alder are moving on to the state stage.
Both the boys and girls teams qualified for the state meet with solid finishes at the Division II regional cross country meet at Pickerington North High School on Saturday.
The boys team took fourth place with a team score of 148, while the Lady Pioneers were fifth, which was the final state qualifying position, with a team score of 147.
Luke Malone was the Pioneers’ top runner with an eighth-place time of 16:40. Gavin Frick took 14th place for Alder with a time of 16:55.
The remaining Pioneers finished as follows:
-Michael Gray, 55th, 17:44;
-Zach Hicks, 56th, 17:45;
-Grant Welsch, 62nd, 17:49;
-Colyn McDaniels, 117th, 18:30;
-Brady Corbitt, 133rd, 18:45.
Maddie Davis of JA was the runner-up in the girls race as she was clocked in 19:09. Morgan Hicks finished the 3.1-mile course in a time of 19:56 to take 14th place.
The remaining Lady Pioneers finished as follows:
-Reggan Gray, 40th, 20:55;
-Maddy Killian, 55th, 21:10;
-Ashlyn McDaniels, 61st, 21:18;
-Avery Hecht, 110th, 22:49;
-Jessie Devore, 124th, 23:34.
The Wildcats of North Union also competed at the D-II regional where their season ended with an 11th place team finish and 342 points.
Adam Brown was the Wildcats’ top runner with a 51st place finish in a time of 17:42.
The remaining Wildcats finished as follows:
-Brennan Griffith, 63rd, 17:50;
-Jacob Willis, 103rd, Jacob Willis, 18:21;
-Joel Krebehenne, 112th, 18:27;
-Gabe Burggraf, 115th, 18:30;
-Dalton Skaggs, 125th, 18:40;
-Chris Isler, 175th, 20:40.
Kamryn Rhodes of NU competed at the girls regional as an individual. She took 52nd place in a time of 21:06.
Rhodes ended her running career with three all-district honors, three all-conference honors and the 2017 Mid Ohio Athletic Conference runner of the year.
Marysville’s girls squad placed 12th in the Division I regional.
Jacquelyn Witt was 31st in 20:26.1; followed by Katherine Krueger, 50th, 20:50.5; Madison Sundquist, 74th, 21:32.1; Leanne Eichorn, 75th, 21:35.0; Haley Cook, 80th, 21:44.3; Kayla Michalak, 86th, 21:54.3; and Hannah Alice, 113th, 23:14.2.
Tristan Karnes of MHS ran as an individual in the D-I boys race. He was 37th in 17:09.
The state meet will be held on Saturday at National Trails Raceway in Hebron.
