The Bunsold Middle School boys and girls track and field teams recently wrapped up a successful season.
A total of nine athletes broke school records, while two qualified for the OHSAA Middle School state meet, which was held last Saturday.
Bailey Gross competed in the state girls 1600 run.
She finished ninth with a time of 5:18.3.
Her performance bettered the previous school record by more than 20 seconds.
The former mark was set in 2019 by Emily Krueger with a clocking of 5:41.8.
Thomas Diep also competed in the state high jump.
He finished with an effort of 5-6.25, but did not place.
Several Bunsold athletes eclipsed school records this season.
Lyla Channell broke the school mark in the girls 800 run with a time of 2:31.3.
The previous standard was 2:32.4, set in 2013 by Jenna Gastineau.
The girls 4×800 relay team of Gross, Channell, Katherine Heap and Maggie Foust also set a new school record with a time of 10:25.
They broke the record when they took first place at the 24-team Worthington Invitational.
The old 4×800 mark of 11:01 was set in 2011.
Several athletes also broke seventh-grade school records.
Ava Mordhorst and Cameron Smith set new marks in the girls and boys long jump with respective leaps of 14-1 and 16-10.
The previous girls mark of 13-8 was set by Gabby Lopez in 2010.
The old boys long jump standard was 16-6, set by Nick Williams in 2010.
Myranda Streng bested the standard in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.4.
She broke Jenna Rioch’s mark of 13.5, which was set in 2015.
Waylon McDaniel broke the 400 record with a time of 58.1, while Mack Weithman established a new standard in the 1600 with a time of 5:14.5.
McDaniel broke Ty Stiers’ old record of 58.6, which was set in 2011.
Weithman erased Alec Sandusky’s seventh-grade record of 5:17.5, which was also set in 2011.
