The goose egg on the left side of the won-loss column has finally been lifted for the Triad High School baseball team.
The Cardinals (1-18) tallied a 5-1 verdict over Ridgemont during a non-conference game.
It was the team’s first victory of the 2024 campaign.
The Gophers took a 1-0 edge in the top of the second inning.
Triad, however, plated two runs in the third and one in the fourth.
The Cardinals added a couple of insurance runs in the home half of the sixth.
Triad pitcher JJ Roberts tossed a one-hitter. He struck out 12 and issued six walks.
Colton Thomas and Brant Bollack both had two of the Cardinals’ eight hits.
Bollack, Jayden Blackburn, Adler Perry and Blayk Thomas each drove in a run.

Pioneers win
Jonathan Alder notched a recent 5-0 baseball verdict over Graham.
Alder scored a pair of runs in the home half of the second inning.
JA plated three runs over the fifth and sixth frames to raise its record to 16-0 in the Kenton Trail Division of the Central Buckeye Conference.
The Pioneers have now won 21 of 22 overall games for the season.
Chase Chopin and Grant Horne both had two hits for Jonathan Alder.
Horne also drove in two runs.
Others hitting safely for the Pioneers were Mason Keaton, Ashton Martin, Cam Potter and Andy Yoder.
Greg Kennedy went the distance on the mound for Jonathan Alder.
He fanned 12, walked one and scattered four hits.
