The Ohio State University has suspended all voluntary athletic workouts, to include football, as a result of positive COVID-19 test the college announced Wednesday.
The school did not make the exact numbers of how many COVID-19 cases known in the public statement.
“The university in not sharing the cumulative COVID-19 information publicly as it could lead to the identification of specific individuals and compromise their medical privacy,” the statement read.
The announcement came on the back of the Ivy League cancelling all fall athletics. The Buckeyes football program returned for voluntary camp on June 8 and have been proceeding without incident until now.
For student-athletes that have tested positive, the university is following state guidelines of self-isolating for 14 days and will provide daily check-ups from the department of athletics medical staff, according to the statement. If the athlete had roommates, they are also required to self-isolate.
Seven teams’ workouts are affected by the one-week pause in training: men’s and women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
