The Marysville Elite 17U team lost a tight battle of 2-1 to the Kaneland Knights at the King’s Island Classic Sunday.
Jack Christian got the nod to take the mound to start the game and was able to strikeout out two Knights while giving up six hits and two earned runs during the loss.
Marysville was able to scatter the ball on six different occasions, but was never able to put anything together until late in the game.
The Knights where able to score early with a bottom of the first run to take an early 1-0 lead and where able to repeat the process in the bottom of the fourth inning to add an insurance run in the pitchers battle.
Andrew VanHoose took over the duties on the mound at the start of the six inning and was able to sight down the Knights on 25 pitches to keep the game knotted at 2-0. Elite had no answer to the 2-0 lead until late in the 7th inning when they where able to post their first run of the game, but the damage had already been done.
Christian led the team in the offensive categories with a double on two hits during four appearances at the plate. Connor Parks went 0-3 at the plate, but was able to score Marysville’s Noah Brown, who went 1-3 at the plate, on a sacrifice fly. Gabe Schaeffer, Blaine Williams and Michael Bonczak all went 1-3 at the plate to help Elite collect six hits during the loss.
Elite is scheduled to return to the field Friday in Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the Lexington Classic.
