The Fairbanks High School boys track and field team finished as runner-up during the Division III district meet on Saturday at Watkins Memorial High School.
The Panthers tallied several first-place finishes en route to their team total of 101 points.
Worthington Christian won the championship with 135.
Beau Sloan captured the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.01.
He was one of several first-place finishers for the Panthers.
Sloan was also a part of the championship 4 x 200 relay team that broke the tape in 1:32.36.
He was joined in the event by Nate Timmons, Will Cochrane and Zach Stewart.
Timmons won the 300 hurdles in 42.36, while William Findley took top accolades in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.27.
Other Panther regional qualifiers were as follows:
-110 hurdles: Timmons, second, 16.30;
-300 hurdles: Findley, fourth, 43.39;
-200 dash: Sloan, third, 22.74;
-4 x 400 relay: third in 3:35.45 (Stewart, Alex Adkins, Cochrane, Kyle Craig);
-Discus: Bryant Fannin, ninth, 110-5;
-High jump: Joey Burnett, fourth, 5-4;
-Long jump: Braylon Green, fourth, 19-9;
-Shot put: Parker Horn, third, 45-1.25;
The Lady Panthers tallied 40 points during their district meet, which was also held at Watkins Memorial.
FHS athletes qualifying for the regional were as follows:
-4 x 800 relay: first, 10:14.67 (Kaidie Carstensen, Kalor Greve, Adeline Fitzwater, Kayla Green);
-4 x 200 relay: fourth, 1:52.39 (Green, Samantha Adkins, Kasey Carstensen, Coree Gifford);
-400 dash: Gifford, fourth, 65.19;
-300 hurdles: Green, fourth, 47.64;
-4 x 400 relay: fourth (Green, Gifford, Kas. Carstensen, Adkins).
Panther athletes will compete in the regional meet this week at Fairfield Union.
Marysville High School athletes competed in the Division I district at Hilliard Darby High School.
The Lady Monarchs, who finished the district with 30.5 points, qualified one running event on Saturday to this week’s regional at Pickerington North High School.
The 4 x 400 relay team of Celia Soller, Julia Dickman, Jenna Rioch and Jacquelyn Witt advanced with a fourth-place district finish.
They were clocked in 4:06.37, behind Hilliard Davidson, Pickerington North and Bishop Watterson.
Witt did not qualify for the regional in the 800-meter run. However, she did set a new school record with a fifth-place time of 2:16.28.
The Lady Monarchs also placed in the following events:
-800 run: Rioch, sixth, 2:7.91 (also better than the previous record);
-4 x 200 relay: seventh in 1:49.50 (Caitlin Cotner, Natalie Hiltscher, Soller, Dickman;
-4 x 100 relay: seventh in 51.48 (Calvert, Haley Cook, Emily Caltrider, Dickman);
-400 dash: Hiltscher, eighth, 1:02.26.
“Overall, the girls competed at a very high level on Saturday,” said coach Luke Sundermier.
“Jacquelyn and Jenna raced in a blazing fast district 800 and both dipped under Celia Soller’s old school record of 2:18.60 (set in 2017) while competing with athletes who have been on the podium at national meets.
“Central Ohio track and field is stocked full of talent and we’re excited to take on the region’s best this week at the Pickerington Regional.”
The Monarch boys, who scored 28 district points, will be represented in one running event at the regional.
Jacob Ranker placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.64.
Also scoring points for the boys were:
-800 meter run: Joey Patterson, fifth;
-4 x 400 relay: fifth (Chris Lamber, Jarret Bruan, Ranker, Patterson);
-Shot put: Skylar Strickland, sixth;
-4 x 800 relay: seventh (Tristan Karnes/Brett Cingle/Riley Karnes/Andrew Snodgrass)
-4 x 200 relay: eighth (Ranker/Ethan Klauda/Ricky Spitznagel/Braun).
“The coaching staff is so very proud of the performances of these gentlemen,” said coach JB Ritchie. “The boys team really stepped up at the time of the season when they needed to most.
“Everyone set a PR (personal record) for the 2018 season in their events at districts,” he said. “We are very happy that Ethan and Jacob are moving on to next week’s regional meet.”
The regional will begin on Wednesday when Klauda competes in the long jump.
Klauda finished second in the district meet earlier in the week with an effort of 21-4.
The Lady Monarch 4 x 800 relay team had also previously qualified for the regional.
The team of Robin King, Soller, Rioch and Witt placed third in the district with a time of 9:33.45.
The 4 x 8 will be contested as a final at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Brynn Rychlik will compete in the girls’ pole vault at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Running finals for the regional will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
