The Lady Panthers of Fairbanks opened Division III volleyball tournament competition on Tuesday with a three-set sweep over Mt. Gilead.
The sixth-seeded squad downed the No. 17 Indians by scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-17.
Kaidie Carstensen and Emma Griffey had strong games along the front line for the Lady Panthers.
Carstensen put away 10 kills, while Griffey contributed nine.
Taylar Sphapmixay added five kills to the mix.
FHS (18-5) was also strong on the serving line, going 66-of-72.
Serving stats for the Panthers were as follows:
-Carstensen: 13-of-16;
-Sphapmixay: 10-for-10;
-Cassie Lamb: 18-of-18;
-Lizzie Nicol: 14-for-14;
-Anna Higbee: six-of-nine;
-Olivia Vollrath: five-for-five.
Additional FHS stats were as follows:
-Carstensen: 11 points, 20 attacks;
-Shapmixay: 34 sets, nine assists, 14 attacks;
-Lamb: 14 assists, 34 sets;
-Nicol: nine points, 49-of-50 passing;
-Jayda Rausch: 10 attacks, three kills;
-Brianne Bosworth: four attacks, one kill;
-Griffey: 12 attacks;
-Higbee: 11 attacks;
-Vollrath: nine-of-12 passing.
The Lady Panthers will travel to No. 3 Johnstown on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. sectional championship match.
Triad falls
Triad’s spikers saw their season conclude with a loss to No. 1 seeded Fort Loramie.
The Lady Cardinals, who were the No. 16 seed, dropped the match by scores of 6-25, 5-25, 21-25.
The match was played at Troy High School.
Triad stats were as follows:
-Holly Alvoid: six points, four attacks;
-Emma Dorn: two points, one dig;
-Gracie Sheets: one point, one dig;
-Jordyn Unger: five points, nine attacks;
Bailey Perry: two points, three digs;
-Kendell Hughes: 16 attacks, eight blocks;
-Sidney Louck: four attacks;
-Kesley Cole: six points, five attacks.
The Lady Cardinals finished the season with a record of 1-20.
