Grapplers enter district competition today

The Wildcats of North Union and the Panthers of Fairbanks are making their ways to hopeful berths in the state wrestling tournament.
They will, however, first have to make it past their Division III Central District competitors in order to earn a spot in the state tournament.
The district tournament was scheduled to kick off this afternoon at Buckeye Local High School and will conclude on Saturday.
Between them, NU and Fairbanks advanced 15 wrestlers to the district from their sectional meet last weekend.
North Union’s Tarren Riffle and Chris Cox-Wilson captured sectional titles, earning the number one seed in their respected weight classes for the district.
Riffle will wrestle in the 113-pound weight class and take a 33-6 record into the competition.
He will square off in the opening round against Nate Loot of Steubenville Catholic Central. Loot comes into the district meet with a 13-8 record.
Cox-Wilson will wrestle in the 182-pound weight class and sports a 32-8 record.
He will face Jaelen Brightwell of Coshocton, who is 22-22.
The remaining first-round bouts are as follows:

-120: NU, Hayden Pacha (33-11) vs. Sandy Valley, Brody Marks (29-16);
-126: NU, Austin Jamison (30-14) vs. Northmor, Gavin Ramos (27-9);
-132: FHS, Dominick Coy (18-22) vs. Richland Edison, Hayden Johnson (40-9);
-138: NU, Caleb Isler (24-16) vs. Newcomerstone, Logan Hursey (45-1), FHS, Aiden Groves (27-11) vs. Waterford, Haden Offenberger (34-8);
-152: NU, Malachi Robbins (7-14) vs. Pleasant, Michael Phelps (31-13), FHS Ethan Chippas (15-27) vs. Liberty Union, Adrian Abolins (26-13);
-160: FHS, Andrew Halterman (24-18) vs. Caldwell, Tommy Mitchell (22-16);
-170: FHS, Tanner Conway (19-11) vs. Martins Ferry, Kameron Hughes (26-14);
-182: FHS, Ashton Griffith (17-18) vs. Steubansville Catholic Central, Michael Herrmann (25-10);
-220: NU, Dylan Thompson (31-8) vs. Trimble, Shawn Turley (18-7);
-285: FHS, Billy Reed-Bodey (36-11) vs. Danville, Dylan Wilson (15-2).
In the Division II Central District meet three wrestlers – Reece Chapman, Luke Stalnaker and Michael Boggs – will represent Jonathan Alder.
Action is being held at Heath High School.
Chapman will wrestle in the 106-weight class and currently stands at 33-10 for the season. He will tangle with David Woolever of Carrollton (36-4)..
Stalnaker, a 170-pounder, currently has a 30-10 record. He will square off against Brandon Daniels of Carrollton, 45-5.
Boggs will wrestle at 220. He has a 29-18 record and will meet Seth Brown (23-19) of Carrollton.
Triad will be represented by two wrestlers during the Division III Southwest District meet.
Coleman Hauck and Blake Boldman will compete at Hobart Arena in Troy.
Hauck (23-11) will make his return to the district meet as the 138-pounder.
He will face Peyton Lane of National Trials (27-5) in the first round.
Boldman (152) will take a 10-8 record into the district.
He will tangle with Jake Mumper of Roger Bacon (20-4).
