The Lady Pioneers of Jonathan Alder won a tough battle Tuesday evening in turning back Bloom-Carroll, 30-21.
The verdict came during the Division II district semifinals at Hamilton Township High School.
Alder’s 12 points during the opening quarter provided the most offensive spark of the night for either squad.
Top-seeded JA (22-3) took a 12-9 edge into the second period and emerged with a 15-14 lead at halftime.
The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (13-11) managed just a pair of points during the third period as Alder climbed to a 24-16 advantage.
Bloom-Carroll didn’t score again until very late in the game.
“This wasn’t our best offensive game,” was an understatement by Alder coach Steve Cawley. “We were a little timid at times against a team that beat us in the district tournament last year.
“However, we played rock-solid defense.”
The Lady Pioneers will travel to Ohio Dominican on Thursday to play for the district title.
They will face No. 5 River Valley with a a 6 p.m. tip-off.
The Vikings upset second-seeded Granville, 62-57, on Tuesday.
The winner of Thursday’s game will advance to next week’s regional semifinals at Springfield High School.
