Hicks captures 3200 regional title
In the Division II regional finals track and field meet at Lexington High School, the Pioneers of Jonathan Alder have qualified for the state meet.
The Lady Pioneers advanced their 4×800-meter relay team Friday by taking first place in the race.
Senior Morgan Hicks, who is a part of the relay team, also took the top spot in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:46.81.
The time set a new Region 6 record, beating out the old record of 10:49.03 set in 2014. Hicks was also scheduled to run in the 1600-meter run, but dropped out to concentrate on the 3200 race.
Advancing to the state meet for the Pioneer boys team was Joey Walker in the high jump.
He took second place in the event with a leap of 6-4.
A jump of 6-6 won the event.
Several JA athletes did not advance to th e state.
Sergey Dutt finished in seventh place in the 3200-meter race with a time of 10:05.95.
The cut off for the event was fourth place with a time of 9:50.83.
North Union’s Jacob Willis raced in the 1600-meter run and finished in ninth place with a time of 4:38.9.
The cutoff for the race was 4:26.92.
North Union’s Drue Duncan finished in sixth place in the boys shot put with a toss of 47-6.5. The last qualifying spot went to a fourth place toss of 48-11.
The Division II state meet will be held at Pickerington North High School. The first day of the meet will be Friday with the field events beginning at 10 a.m. and the running events to begin at 2 p.m. The meet will conclude Saturday.
