The only local girls high school basketball squad that has been able to start the 2020-21 season kept its young record unblemished.
The Lady Cardinals of Triad upped their mark to 2-0 on Tuesday by routing Springfield Shawnee, 71-10.
The Braves were limited to a basket by Lily Smith during the initial eight minutes of the game.
Cati LeVan poured in 11 (nine from beyond the three-point arc), of her 22 points during the opening quarter.
As a result, Triad (which will travel to West Jefferson on Saturday evening) climbed to a 20-2 advantage.
Frani LeVan, who tallied four markers during the first stanza, added five more during the ensuing set.
Triad climbed to a 38-5 margin by the halftime turn.
Shawnee’s offensive struggles continued after the break.
Frani LeVan scored seven points during the third quarter as the Lady Cardinals soared to a 56-8 advantage by the end of the period.
The LeVan siblings both tallied 22 points for the game.
Frani LeVan also dished for 11 assists and led the squad with nine rebounds.
Cati LeVan swooped in for eight steals and added five rebounds.
Abby Walls scored 10 points and notched eight rebounds.
There was no junior varsity game.
