The Lady Monarchs of Marysville opened the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division portion of their soccer season with a victory on Tuesday.
Marysville (4-3-1) defeated Hilliard Darby by a 2-1 verdict.
Lucy Weller got MHS on the scoreboard with an early first-half goal.
The teams swapped possessions for much of the opening stanza.
Darby, however, tied the game with 29 seconds left to play in the first half.
Marysville controlled the action for much of the second half.
Cam Lee assisted on MHS’ winning goal on a perfectly-timed cross.
That led to JoJo Eberhart’s goal that put the match in the win column for the Lady Monarchs.
Marysville keeper Brielle Young recorded two saves for the contest.

FHS girls edged
Fairbanks’ girls gave state-ranked (No. 15 in Division III) Columbus Wellington (4-0-1) all it could handle.
The end result, however, was a 1-0 victory for the Jaguars on their home pitch.
“I thought the girls played well against a state-ranked team,” said FHS coach Randy Spain.
The combatants swapped possessions throughout the opening half, which ended in a scoreless deadlock.
Panther keeper Avery Groves and Wellington net-minder Lena Grohovsky came up with a handful of saves to keep the match at a stalemate.
Groves finished the contest with 10 saves, many of them coming on diving stops.
There was one shot she couldn’t halt.
That came with approximately 37:46 left in the second half.
Wellington’s Katie Morosky blasted the ball toward the right side of the net.
Groves flung herself toward the sphere, but could not stop it in time from reaching the back of the goal.
FHS (3-3) had several scoring opportunities later in the half.
Grohovsky, though, came up with several of her seven saves to thwart the Lady Panthers.
“We just need to be able to finish those plays,” said Spain.
