Marysville girls basketball coach Klarke Ransome summed it up best.
“Good teams find ways to win games.”
The Lady Monarch boss was referring to his own team after Friday’s 35-32 victory at Hilliard Darby.
MHS (3-0) held a 12-8 lead after the first period.
Darby tied the game at 18-all by halftime.
Marysville (which will play at Wapakoneta today) regained a 32-26 margin by the end of the third period.
“It was a tough, physical game,” said Ransome. “We took care of the basketball and got some defensive stops down the stretch.”
JoJo Eberhart led Marysville with 10 points.
Ava Krutowskis and Leah Brown both tallied nine.
Abri Schmutz scored three, while Abby Williams and Alyssa Strahm each added two.
Triad loses heart-breaker
A Mechanicsburg basket with 7.8 seconds to play spelled the difference between victory and defeat for Triad’s boys hoop squad.
Josh Lim hit the layup with scant seconds remaining to edge the Cardinals, 49-47.
Triad (2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Ohio Heritage Conference) trailed 47-40 with 1:30 left to play.
The Cardinals came back to tie the contest at 47-all when Ayden Spriggs drilled a trifecta.
Triad had a final opportunity to win the game, but Caleb Thomas’ three-ball fell short at the buzzer.
Spriggs and Tyler Perry led the Cardinals with 14 points each.
Triad will travel to Northeastern on Tuesday.
