Miller takes top honors in four events
The Fairbanks girls track team earned a Division III Central District title after tallying 117 team points.
The points came by the end of the district track meet Saturday at Granville High School.
Along with the team title, the Lady Panthers also have several athletes who have advanced to the D-III regional track meet.
Macy Miller, who took first place in the long and high jump early in the meet and added a pair of first-place titles to her name after she finished ahead of the field in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.
Miller broke Fairbanks records in all four events.
Her 100 time of 15.31 broke Gabby Burchett’s 2105 mark of 15.4.
Miller’s finish of 45.04 in the 300 erased Kayla Green’s previous standard of 45.35.
The FHS sophomore broke a 33-year-old record in the long jump.
Her leap of 17-4.75 broke Brenda Dellinger’s 1988 record of 17-2.75.
Miller won the district at 5-5 by breaking her own record of 5-4 set earlier this year at the Virg Rankin Invitational.
Rachel Hoover also took first place in a pair of events. The freshman runner toppled the field in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:12 and finished in first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.
Also advancing to the regional meet is the 4×200-meter relay team of Kinley Green, Addie Thrush, Kate Coy and Linsey Eddy.
The quartet took second place with a time of 1:51.
Green will also be running in the 200-meter dash at the regional meet after she finished in fourth place during the district finals with a time of 27.24.
The remaining Lady Panthers finished as follows at the district finals:
-100-meter hurdles: Jordan Perry, fifth, 27.53;
-100-meter dash: Green, fifth, 13:45;
-1600-meter run: Kate Ruff, sixth, 6:01;
-4×100-meter run: Fairbanks, fifth (Coy, Sarah Arend, Maghan Wenger, Eddy), 54.41;
-400-meter dash: Thrush, fifth, 63.88;
-300-meter hurdles: Ellie Carter, fifth, 50.58;
-3200-meter run: Amelia Cameron, fifth, 12:59, Kate Ruff, eighth, 13:47;
-4×400-meter relay: Fairbanks, seventh (Green, Thrush, Caydee Breneman, Hoover), 4:35.
The Triad Lady Cardinals also have a runner advancing to the regional meet.
Triad, which competes in the Division III Southwest District, finished with a team score of 16 points for 10th place.
West Liberty Salem won the meet with 144 points.
Cayla Eaton will represent the Lady Cardinals in the 300-meter hurdles after she took third place at the district meet with a time of 48.43.
Megan McMannaway finished the discus in 15th place with a toss of 73-8.
In the boys district meets, Fairbanks finished the Central District meet in third place with 71 points.
Grandview Heights won the meet with 118.5 points.
The Panthers also advanced several runners to the regionals. The 4×200-meter relay team of Trey Good, Kaleb Bosworth, Gage Wilson and Brendan Baker took fourth place with a time of 1:34.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Wyatt Miller, Jackson Stage, Brogan Green and Baker will run in the regional meet after a third place finish at districts in a time of 45.55. The 4×400-meter relay team of Good, Kyler Wilson, Wilson and Braylon Green took the final qualifying spot (fourth) with a time of 3:38.
Good also advanced to regionals with a third-place finish at the district with a time of 22.84.
In the 300-meter hurdles, the Panthers have a pair of runners who have advanced to the regional.
Wilson took second place with a time of 41.83, while Zach Picklesimer finished in fourth place with a time of 42.58.
The remaining Panthers finished as follows:
-110-meter hurdles: Picklesimer, fifth, 16.68, Wilson, seventh, 16.98;
-100-meter dash, Good, sixth, 11:64;
-1600-meter run: Jeremy Ziegler, 11th, 4:51;
-800-meter run: Dylan Tobe, seventh, 2:06;
-3200-meter run: Ziegler, 13th, 10:50.
In the DIII Southwest District finals the Triad boy’s track team finished in 17th place collecting two points. Joey Ferguson took 12th place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:04 and Wyatt Robison finished in 21st place with a time of 5:50.
In the shot put, Tyler Gross had a toss of 35-2.75 for 19th place and Maison Johnson finished in 21st place with a throw of 34-1.5.
Fairbanks will compete in the Division III Regional track meet at Chillicothe Southeastern High School starting Wednesday.
Triad will compete at Troy High School, also starting Wednesday.
