Local golfers open 2018 campaign

Local high school golfers withstood 90-degree heat on Monday during the opening day of the 2018 regular season.
Fairbanks’ girls carded a team score of 244 to defeat Madison Plains at Marysville Golf Club.
Connor Hunter of Madison Plains was the medalist with a 55.
The Lady Eagles had only three golfers and did not have a full team score.
Shelby Jones led Fairbanks with a 58, followed by Allison Kise-60, Mary Weisburn-61, Gabby Vamos-65, Kaylee Mitton-73 and Shelby Burns-81.
Madison Plains’ other two scores were Rachel Weis-66 and Bryanna Dodds-75.
JA places fourth
Teays Valley was the location for an invitational tournament that opened the season for Jonathan Alder’s boys on Monday.
The Pioneers took fourth place in the 16-team event.
Worthington Christian’s B squad shot a 317 to capture top honors.
Grove City was the runner-up with 322, followed by Delaware Hayes-334, JA-336, Teays Valley-342, Granville-348, Fairfield Union-363, Logan Elm-363, Bexley B-370, Madison Plains-370, Westfall-383, Gallia Academy-404, Circleville-413, Grove City Christian-420, Amanda Clearcreek-426 and Zane Trace-no score.
Hayden Mitchell led the Pioneers with a 79. He was followed by Mychal McKelvey-83, Tyler Hilbert-84 and Liam Thompson-90.
MHS girls open season
The Lady Monarchs entered three golfers in the Gahanna Invitational.
Olivia Virts shot a 96, followed by Cassi Van Dyke-103 and Olivia Ishmael-105.
Marysville did not have a team score.
New Albany won the event with a 295.
