Jonathan Alder, Triad and Fairbanks took to the mats with the Pioneers almost taking the crown as a team at the Triad Invitational.
Jonathan Alder claimed second place out of 15 teams present by scoring 195 team points.
The Pioneers had three grapplers take first place in their respective weight classes — 150-pounder Pryce Watson, 157-pounder Oliver Byerly and 215-pounder Dom Kroninger.
JA also saw 120-pounder Trenton Moodispaugh and 285-pounder Damon Hay take second place in their brackets.
More placers for the Red and Black included Jimmy Finke (third at 190 pounds), Andrew Richey (third at 285 pounds), Giapaulo Jones (fifth at 126 pounds), Isaak Ricker (fifth at 165 pounds) and Jake Nuemeir (sixth at 150 pounds).
The Pioneers were just one point away from first place. Bowling Green was crowned as the best team of the tournament with 196 total team points.
Triad, the host of the tournament, placed sixth with a team score of 106.
The Cardinals’ highest placer was Awsom Mitchell, who took second at 165 pounds.
Others placing Triad included Jacob Haser (third at 120 pounds), Kyle Walborn (fourth at 190 pounds), Ty Thomas (fourth at 215 pounds), Thomas Ford (fifth at 215 pounds) and Tucker Webb (sixth place at 175 pounds).
Fairbanks took 14th with nine points.
Competing for the Panthers were 132-pounder Joe Pacheo, 144-pounder Tyler Coy and 150-pounder Austin Coy.
