The North Union Wildcat wrestlers hosted the Don Wasserbeck Classic on Saturday.
Marion Pleasant captured top team honors during the 11-school event with 295.5 points.
A split squad of Marysville Monarchs took the highest accolades among three local teams.
MHS placed third with 159 points.
North Union was fourth with 130 and the Triad Cardinals were sixth with 116.5.
Several local athletes worked their way to the top of their weight classes.
Lincoln Witt of Marysville was able to wrestle his way to the highest spot in the 120-pound weight class.
He claimed that honor after defeating Jayden Sturgell from Benjamin Logan by a 19-8 major decision.
MHS’ Harley Crouso surpassed Isaac Robinson of Delaware Hayes by a 20-8 major decision in the 132-pound finals for first place.
Coleman Hauck of Triad claimed the crown of the 145 pound class after beating Brandon Mulvaine from Pleasant by a 9-1 major decision.
Several additional local wrestlers also made it to the title bout in their weight classes and finished as runner-up.
Ethan Skiles, at 106 pounds, of Marysville fell to Anwar Alli of Pleasant by pin fall in 1:36.
Triad’s Drue Instine earned second place at 113 pounds.
The 113-pound weight class only had pools and no finals, due to a lack of wrestlers (only four were in the field).
Wrestlers’ won-loss records determined the places at 113.
Owen O’Brien of Benjamin Logan won the division with a 3-0 record.
Instine won two of his three matches to place second.
Casey Clark of NU was third in the weight class with a 1-2 record.
Isiah Leasure of Triad fell to Steele Boysel of Ben Logan by pin fall in 3:23 in 170-pound finals.
Skyler Cowgill of North Union struggled with Gavin Baisden of Pleasant in 182-pound class. He lost by a pin in 3:05 to take second place.
Zach Pfarr of Marysville (106) placed third. He won by pin fall in 1:53 in the match for third and fourth.
Gabe Hansen of North Union was third at 120 pounds with a 14-2 major decision. Brady Seger of Marysville (138) placed third with a 7-4 decision.
Jayden Simmons of Marysville (160) was third by an 11-2 major decision. Parker Reese of Marysville won a tight match -11-10 decision – for third place at 182 pounds.
Alec O’Reilly of North Union took third at 195 with a pin fall in 1:36.
Kane Beltz of North Union won by pin in 18 seconds in the 220-pound class.
The remaining local athletes finished as follows:
– 106 pounds, Trace Williams, North Union, sixth;
– 126 pounds, Joseph Eley, Marysville, fifth;
-138 pounds, Caleb Isler, North Union, fifth;
-152 pounds, Blake Boldman, Triad, fourth; Riley Miller, Marysville, fifth;
-160 pounds, Dalton Overfield, Triad, fifth;
– 220 pounds, Trevor Gilbert, North Union, fourth;
– 285 pounds, Kyle Daley, North Union, fifth.
Marysville will return to the mats on Thursday against Upper Arlington. Triad will make the trip to Lima Central Catholic Friday and North Union will travel to Pleasant for the Sally George Invitational on Friday.
