Marysville native and professional golfer Stephen Gangluff was able to top the field of 47 golfers that made the cut to the third round of the Ohio Open at Weymouth Country Club in Medina on Wednesday.
Gangluff opened the three-day tournament with an 8-under-par 64 on the Fox Meadow course. Gangluff was able to collect the leaderboard topping score with four birdies on the front nine and back nine, while playing consistent golf to keep his score intact.
The former Ohio State University golfer moved to Weymouth where he kept his lead with a 6-under-par 66 after round two.
Gangluff was able to sink five birdie shots on the front nine of Weymouth, going on a run of five holes collecting below par putts, before running into to a little trouble on hole 13 where he bogeyed the par 4 hole.
Gangluff bogeyed holes 15 and 18 to end his day above the cut.
Gangluff’s saw his worst round of the tournament turning in a 1-over-par 73, but with a commanding 14-under-par going into the final round, the former Monarch was able to keep his lead by a single stroke and win the tournament with a 13-under-par 203 to claim the $8,000 prize.
Nathan Tarter of Akron took second place with a 12-under-par 204 effort and a final round score of 3-under-par 69.
