Fairbanks’ girls cross-country team placed fifth on Saturday during the Galion Cross-Country Festival.
West Liberty-Salem won the 18-team Division III event with 87 points.
Rounding out the top five were Northmor-118, Centerburg-125, New London-142 and FHS-158.
Fairbanks runners placed as follows:
-Amelia Cameron, fourth, 19:43.3; Adeline Fitzwater, ninth, 20:42.9; Kalor Greve, 11th, 20:48.7; Gracie Hubbs, 74th, 24:02.5; Lily Demeter, 92nd, 25:28.4; and Kai Van Dyke, 108th, 26:37.4.
There were 126 individual runners in the race.
Fairbanks’ boys did not have enough runners to finish with a team score.
Nathan Parks placed 124th in 21:34.2.
Jonathan Alder’s girls placed fourth during the 18-team Division II race.
Lexington won with 29.
Rounding out the top five were Ontario-54, Tallmadge-107, JA-130 and Fredericktown-172.
Lady Pioneer finishes were as follows:
-Morgan Hicks, seventh, 19:03.4; Maddie Davis, 18th, 20:03.2; Avery Wink, 30th, 21:09.2; Emma Kennedy, 35th, 21:17.6; and Reggan Gray, 40th, 21:32.4.
Jonathan Alder’s boys placed eighth in the 23-team Divsion II race with 224 points.
Unioto won with 67.
Alder placed as follows:
-Luke Malone, 13th, 16:36.8; Michael Gray, 32nd, 17:22.1; Jonas Watkins, 36th, 17:31.3; Caleb Freyhof, 58th, 17:56.9; and Colyn McDaniel, 87th, 18:35.6.
Monarchs compete
Several Marysville High school cross-country runners competed on Saturday at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitatonal.
The event was held at Liberty Park in Powell.
Several athletes did not compete due to training and/or taking the ACT test.
The Monarchs only competed during open races.
Freshman Payton Pierce won the open girls race in 21:12.
“Payton had a great race,” said MHS coach Luke Sundermeier. “She ran in the top three for most of the race and then made a big move with about 300 meters to go to seal the win.”
Freshman Haylee Huffman placed sixth in 22:04.
Preston Herring finished 34th in 18:51 to lead the way during the boys’ open race.
Justyn Bernard finished with a personal record time of 20:26 to finish 130th.
