Marysville freshman keeper Brielle Young came up with a critical save with two minutes left in the game on Thursday.
As a result, the Lady Monarch varsity soccer squad defeated Central Crossing, 1-0, on its Kick for the Cure night.
“We played tough and controlled the better part of 75 of the 80 minutes,” said MHS coach Nathan Andrews.
The lone goal of the game came off a battle with Maddi Shumway and a Crossing opponent.
Shumway sent the ball to Jenna Rioch, who finished with a header in the back of the net.
MHS outshot the Comets, 17-3.
The Lady Monarchs are 2-0 in OCC play and will host Dublin Coffman on Tuesday.
The Marysville JV squad beat Watkins Memorial during the preliminary game, 3-0.
Lady Panthers
triumph
The Fairbanks Lady Panthers moved to 6-3-1 on the season and 4-1-0 in the Ohio Heritage Conference with an 8-0 win over Mechanicsburg.
On their Kick for the Cure night, the Lady Panthers opened their scoring with two goals from Samantha Adkins.
Cami Renicker added the third goal on an assist from Emma Cook for a 3-0 lead at the half.
Cook tallied three goals to open the second half, while Anna Poling and Claire Ruff each added one.
Freshman keeper Avery Groves played all 80 minutes in the net and had no shots against her.
Monarchs win
Thomas Wolfe and Sam Balderson each tallied a pair of goals as Marysville’s boys soccer squad defeated Central Crossing, 6-1.
J.J. Rigsby and Luke Holle also scored for the Monarchs.
Mason Taylor turned away a trio of Comet shots on goal.
