Fairbanks’ softball squad inched back closer to the overall .500 mark on Monday.
The Lady Panthers improved their record to 3-4 and their Ohio Heritage Conference mark at 3-3.
They did so with a 5-4 triumph over Springfield Catholic Central.
Sarah Writesel tossed a solid game as she scattered two hits and fanned 10.
She issued five walks.
Writesel was also perfect during three trips to the plate. Among her trio of hits was a home run.
She also blasted two doubles and drove in three runs.
“Sarah led the team tonight with her hitting and pitching,” said Fairbanks head coach Amy Sines.
Danielle Hoover tallied three hits in four trips to the plate.
The Lady Panthers, who will travel to Buckeye Valley on Thursday, plated two runs in the first inning and took a 5-0 margin in the fifth.
The Irish scored once in the sixth and added three runs in the seventh.

Panthers win
The Panther baseball team edged Springfield Catholic Central, 3-2.
Max Snyder won the game in relief of Alex Blumenschein.
The FHS hurlers surrendered only two base hits, whiffed eight and walked five.
The game was deadlocked at 2-2 after the sixth.
FHS (5-4) tied the contest when Ryker Beaty singled, went to second on Nathan Combs’ sacrifice bunt and scored on Snyder’s double.
The Panthers, who will play at Cedarville today, won the game in the bottom of the seventh.
With one down, Grant and Noah Rausch both singled.
Beaty was intentionally walked.
The winning run then scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
Noah Rausch led FHS with three hits and drove in a run.
Ethan Kise and Grant Rausch both tallied a pair of hits.
Also hitting safely were Combs, Snyder, Beaty and Evan Blumenschein.
Snyder also drove in a run.

Alder girls win
JA’s softball squad improved to 7-1 with a 6-2 verdict over Tecumseh.
Alder held a 3-0 lead after four innings.
Tecumseh rallied to within 3-2 in the fifth.
The Lady Pioneers plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Marlee Jacobs scattered a trio of hits and allowed a pair of earned runs.
She fanned 12 and issued a pair of free passes.
Danielle Robbins led JA at the plate with three hits.
Kiersten Dolby and Evan Platfoot both drove in two runs.
Jaden Phelps and Robbins also tallied RBIs.
JA will play at Tecumseh on Wednesday.

Pioneers fall
Alder’s baseball squad slipped to 6-2 with a 10-5 loss to Tecumseh.
JA held a 5-2 lead after four innings.
Tecumseh scored eight times over the sixth and seven frames to win the game.
The Pioneers, who will play at Tecumseh on Wednesday, managed just five hits.
Jackson Bennett, Tyson Mast, Alec Schrock, Hank Shoemaker and Zach Yates all hit safely for JA.
Schrock drove in a pair of runs.
Nick Riedel started on the hill for Jonathan Alder.
He was touched for nine hits in five innings and allowed five earned runs.
Andrew Duffield surrendered six of Tecumseh’s 15 hits in one inning of work.
Brady Corbitt also pitched an inning for JA.
