For the first time in school history, Marysville High School will be fielding a girls bowling team.
Over the past several years, there have been a few girls who have competed in the sport for MHS. However, they had to be a part of the boys team, since there weren’t enough of them to make up a complete squad.
There are now enough girls to comprise an entire team for the 2017-18 campaign.
Lady Monarchs who will take to the lanes are Kayla Helton, Carrie DeHoff, Hailey Beck, Emily Myer, Samantha Kolakowski, Lexi Stiltner and Molly Downey.
Helton is a returning letterman and will lead the girls team this winter.
Helton is joined by her brother Michael and Landon Winfield as the program’s veterans.
Seniors on the squad are Michael Helton Jr., Kolakowski and Tyler Monnin.
“This year’s team is very young,” said coach Ray Cusack.
Despite the youth, Cusack has a goal in mind, especially for his boys squad.
“We have won a share of the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division title the last two years,” he said. “We are looking to win it again this year.”
