As the summer heat dawns over Union County, local swimmers are taking to the pool in for some competition during their breaks from school.
The Stingrays Swim Team of Marysville is a summer recreational swim team, which includes children up to the age of 18 years old. A warm welcome to swimmers of all levels, the team also includes daily practices as well as competitive meets during the season which run Wednesday evenings and Saturday morning.
The Stingrays competed this past week against the Tangy Tornadoes at the Marysville Municipal Pool.
In the girls’ 9-10 age group, Marysville’s Claire Eley took third place in the 100-yard individual medley (IM) finishing with a time of 1:45.64.
In the girls 11-12 age group, Aurora Matsuura took first place in the 100-yard IM finishing with a time of 1:11.61.
In the same age group but for the boys’ category, Marysville’s Devin Forson took third place with a time of 2:09.42 for the 100-yard IM.
In the girls’ 13-14 age group, Sadie Dove placed third for the 100-yard stroke finishing with a time of 1:26.75.
In the same age group, Marysville’s Cody Byrd took second place with a time of 1:21.17 for the 100-yard IM.
In the boys’ 9-10 age group, the tandem of Braden Dove, Ethan Hubbard, Evan Matsuura and Sawyer Ginyard placed second in the 100-yard medley relay after recording a time of 1:44.51.
In the girls’ 11-12 age group, the unit of Aurora, Alemi Kruse, Emma Hubbard and Clara Dove took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:40.89.
In the same age grouping and event, Marysville’s team of Scout Scheiderer, Forson, Rylan Brown and Daniel Hanson placed third with a time of 3:43.87.
In the girls’ 13-14 age group, the squad of Dove, Margaret Snyder, Sadie Lucas and Addy Ross took second place with a time of 2:58.79 in the 200-yard medley relay.
In the girls’ 15-18 age group, Marysville’s Molly Gregory, Janie Clayton, Alekah Daniels and Reese Cordonnier took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:06.22.
In the same age grouping but for the boys, the team of Danny Dougherty, Cody Brady, Brady Cordonnier and Joey Hazelbaker took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:11.80.
In the boys’ 6U age group, Brice Ruetty (36.79) took first and Gage Arnal (40.04) placed second in the 25-yard freestyle.
In the girls’ 7-8 age group, Marysville’s Harper Deitz took third place with a time of 19.78 for the 25-yard freestyle.
In the same age group, Ellis Matsuura took second place with a time of 28.04 in the 25-yard freestyle.
In the girls’ 9-10 age group, Valerie Estep took second place with a time of 18.98 in the 25-yard freestyle tying with Tornadoes’ Brynn Fermier.
In the same age group, Evan Matsuura took first place with a time of 18.76 in the 25-yard freestyle.
In the girls’ 11-12 age group, Kruse (33.84) took first place with fellow Stingrays Hubbard (33.89) finishing second and Ellie Wolfe (37.01) taking third in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the same age group but for the boys, Brown took third place with a time of 29.95 in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the girls’ 13-14 age group, Lucas (28.50) took first place and Dove (31.19) took second in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the same age group for boys, Brady Cordonnier placed second with a time of 27 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the girls 15-18 age group, Daniels (27.01) finished first, Reese Cordonnier (27.14) took second and Janie Clayton (27.70) took third in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the same age group for boys, Joey Hazelbaker finished first with a time of 24.03 in the 50-yard freestyle.
