The Lady Monarch varsity softball squad built a seven-run lead in the sixth inning and then battled to hold off Upper Arlington during a 10-9 victory on Wednesday.
The Golden Bears took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, only to see MHS plate three runs in the bottom portion of the inning.
The Lady Monarchs (who will play at Hilliard Davidson today) tallied seven runs over the course of the fourth through sixth innings.
Tayler Clabaugh, Emily Daniel and Hannah Moffett each drove in runs during the fifth.
MHS was armed with a 10-3 advantage and withstood UA’s fierce rally in the top of the seventh.
Izzy Shroyer notched the win in the pitching circle for Marysville (11-6 overall and 5-1 in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division).
She surrendered 12 hits and fanned four.
Abby Gindlesberger relieved Shroyer in the seventh.
She yielded a pair of runs on a couple of hits.
The freshman, though, was able to get the last three outs and earned the save.
Moffett and Lexi Williams each had three of Marysville’s 14 hits.
Leah Potter and Genesis Brooks both had a pair of hits.

MHS’ jayvee squad played the Jr. Golden Bears to a 9-9 stalemate.
The game was called after the ninth inning due to darkness.
Carly Connolly had a trio of hits and Bre Ortman added two.

FHS girls fall
Fairbanks’ softball team dropped an 11-5 decision at Columbus Bishop Ready.
FHS plated two runs in the top of the first, but the Silver Knights scored five in the bottom of the frame and added three more in the second.
Fairbanks’ runs in the first came on Cierra Madison’s two-run homer.
The Lady Panthers (7-10) narrowed their deficit to 8-3 in the third.
Ready took a 9-3 margin after the fifth and added two more scores in the sixth.
Fairbanks (which will travel to Greeneview on Friday) tallied two runs in the visitors’ portion of the seventh.
Anna Higbee had three of FHS’ seven hits. She also scored twice.
Julia Cheney pitched the first five innings for the Lady Panthers. She was tagged for 11 hits.
April Ward hurled the final two frames.
“We played a good game against a good team,” said Panther coach Amy Sines.
