Marysville High School’s track and field athletes battled rainy conditions on Thursday during the opening day of the Ohio Capital Conference meet.
The event was held at Big Walnut High School.
The 4×800 meter relay races were held as finals.
The MHS boys team of Mack Weithman, Paxton Herring, Adam DeSutter and Levi Weithman placed third with a time of 8:04.05.
The Lady Monarchs also finished third in 9:56.54.
The team consisted of Marguerite Foust, Lyla Channell, Mallory Huffman and Cameron Cave.
Both teams finished with season-best times.
Monarch athletes advanced to today’s running finals, which will be held at Westerville North High School. They were as follows (with semifinal places and times):
-Boys 110 meter hurdles: Zac Galvis, first, 14.87;
-Girls 100 meter dash: Aelyn Baumbarger, second, 12.37; Shannon Cordle, fourth, 12.70;
-Boys 100 meter dash: JT Hiltscher, first, 11.03; Dom Brown, seventh, 11.46;
-Girls 400 meter dash: Ava Mordhorst, sixth, 1:03.33;
-Boys 400 meter dash: Hiltscher, first, 51.38; Ethan Boylan, second, 53.09; Waylon McDaniel, seventh, 54.36;
-Girls 300 meter hurdles: Olivia Brooks, fourth, 48.67;
-Boys 300 meter hurdles: Galvis, fifth, 42.24;
-Girls 200 meter dash: Baumbarger, first, 25.85; Cordle, fifth, 26.84;
-Boys 200 meter dash: Hiltscher, first, 22.65; Brown, third, 23.19.
Some field events were held as finals.
Marysville results in those events were as follows:
-Boys shot put: Jason Moore, third, 46-2.5; Keegan Allen, ninth, 39-5.75;
-Girls discus: Kara Moeller, fifth, 90-6; Olivia Looney, ninth, 77-6;
-Boys long jump: Boylan, fourth, 20-1; Moore, ninth, 19-4;
-Girls high jump: Audrey Spooner, fifth, 4-10;
-Girls pole vault: Ava Schmutz, fourth, 9-0; Brianna Watkins, sixth, 7-6;
Other field events will be conducted today.
“Overall, it was a strong start to the OCC meet,” said Marysville head coach Luke Sundermeier. “The sprints crew did a great job of securing lanes for the finals and several of our field event athletes stepped up at the right moment.
“We’re looking forward to the next round of competition,” he said.
Field events will begin today at 3 p.m.
Running finals at Westerville North are slated to start at 5 p.m.
