The 2020-21 season came to an end for Marysville High School’s boys basketball team on Friday.
The Monarchs (14-9), the No. 20 seed, dropped a Division I tournament game, 64-41, at No. 13 Newark.
MHS managed only four points during the opening quarter.
Jack Christian hit a basket and Ryan Barlow added a pair of charity tosses as Marysville trailed, 13-4, by the end of the set.
The Monarch offense still had trouble getting into gear during the ensuing stanza.
Newark took a 30-13 halftime margin and went into the fourth quarter with a 47-31 advantage.
Barlow and Christian respectively led MHS with 12 and 11 points.
Garrett Taylor, MHS’ 6-5 post player, did not see action.
Taylor broke his foot during Tuesday’s game against Groveport-Madison.
“We really missed Garrett’s presence,” said coach Ryan Grose.
“You also have to give Newark credit,” he said. “They took us out of our offense and we had a poor shooting night.”
