A former Marysville High School softball player who was a member of two Division I district championship teams is continuing her success on the collegiate level.
Tareyn Born, who was a pitcher for the Lady Monarchs when they captured district crowns in 2022 and 2023, is a member of the Muskingum University diamond squad.
The Muskies won their NCAA Division III regional tournament in Bethlehem, Pa. over the past weekend.
The former Lady Monarch was named the regional tournament’s most outstanding player.
Born played a huge role in the championship that is sending Muskingum to the Super Regionals in Virginia Beach.
The Muskies will play Virginia Wesleyan University. The best-of-three series will be played Thursday and Friday.
Born won her 10th game of the season in 15 decisions when the Muskies (31-14) defeated Roanoke (33-16), 4-1, in the regional title contest.
She went the distance in the circle and finished with a two-hitter. She fanned two and issued four walks.
It wasn’t, however, just her pitching arm that was on display during Muskingum’s championship triumph.
She also drilled a solo homer during the game.
Born has 14 starts in the pitching circle to her credit so far this season.
Along with her won-loss record, she has a 2.40 earned run average and one save.
She has tallied 14 hits in 64 at-bats (.219) with a pair of round-trippers and 10 RBIs.
