The Marysville High School cross-country teams traveled to Minster on Saturday morning for an invitational.
Most of the varsity runners took off the weekend.
That enabled the reserve runners to compete against high-level athletes.
The Monarch boys placed third.
Miamisburg won the meet with 16 points, followed by Minster-60, Marysville-83, Versailles-115, Fort Loramie-129, Sidney Lehman Catholic-160 and Coldwater-189.
Leading the Monarch team were Aiden Grome, eighth, 18:19; Justyn Bernard, 12th, 18:47; Cannon Moser, 17th, 19:07; Carter Stowell, 22nd, 19:21; Aaron Schlemmer, 24th, 19:25; Jonny Sharrock, 30th, 19:38; and Brady Cossette, 31st, 19:39.
The Lady Monarchs placed fourth during their meet.
Minster broke the tape during that race with 28 points.
Miamisburg was the runner-up with 58, followed by Versailles-62, Marysville-116, Ft. Loramie-121 and Coldwater-166.
Kaylee Morton led MHS’ girls with an 11th place clocking of 22:23.
She was followed by Maggie Zweizig, 21st, 23:41; Kylie Andrews, 27th, 24:03; Ashley Boston, 30th, 24:24; Avery Murphy, 36th, 24:52; Lydia Johnson, 53rd, 26:21; and Alex Schlemmer, 60th, 27:30.
“It was great to have the attention on our reserve runners as they put together some great races at Four Seasons Park in Minster,” said MHS coach Luke Sundermeier. “These Monarchs have bright futures and some will soon be competing for varsity spots.
“We’re looking forward to having the full lineup back together this coming Saturday at Lancaster for the Bob Reall Invitational.”
