The Marysville High School boys soccer team played host to Hilliard Davidson for its Kick for a Cure game on Tuesday.
Andrew Beverlin, an MHS junior, was honored at the game. The team raised more than $1,000 for him and his family through a drawing held during the game.
The Monarchs defeated the Wildcats by a score of 2-0.
The first goal came with less than six minutes left in the opening half by Max Brennan on an assist from Brett Cingle.
Matthew Walters tallied the insurance goal halfway through the second half off a cross by Zach Rausch.
Mason Taylor racked up 10 saves in the net to post the shutout.
With the victory, the Monarchs clinched second place in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division.
The Monarchs will host Hilliard Darby tonight for senior night.
MHS girls tie
The Lady Monarchs played Hilliard Davidson to a 2-2 stalemate on Tuesday.
Kindall Duke put MHS on the board in the first half, tying the game at 1-1 with a precisely-placed penalty kick.
Davidson took a 2-1 lead at the half.
The second half started out much more dominating than the first for Marysville.
Kindall Duke again came through with another goal, following a smooth combination of passing from Celia Soller and Kaylee Griffith.
The Lady Monarchs, who will play at Hilliard Darby tonight, finished second in the OCC for the second consecutive year.
The JV team lost 1-0 in a tough battle in Hilliard.
