The Marysville High School varsity volleyball team will begin the 2018 season in a big way on Saturday.
The Lady Monarchs will host six other teams for their annual Spikefest Tournament.
Action will get under way at 10 a.m. as MHS hosts Dayton Stivers, Chillicothe, Dublin Jerome, New Albany, Pickerington North and Olentangy Berlin.
Matches will be played in both the main high school gym and in the field house.
Competition will begin with Stivers taking on Chillicothe in the main gym.
Jerome will tangle with New Albany and Pickerington North will face Berlin on the courts in the field house.
The Lady Monarchs, after a first-round bye, will open the tournament at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of the Stivers-Chillicothe match.
Consolation bracket matches will also begin at 11:30 a.m. and conclude after a 1 p.m. contest.
The winners of the first two winner’s bracket contests will go head-to-head to determine first and second place.
The title contest will be played at 1 p.m. in the main gym, while the match for third and fourth place will be played in the fieldhouse at 1:30 p.m.
“I feel that Pickerington North, New Albany and Dublin Jerome will be major competitors in our tournament,” said Lady Monarch head coach Bethany Bentz. “However, we will also compete for the championship.”
A trophy will be presented to the championship team.
An All-Tournament team will also be selected.
The Lady Monarchs will resume their season on Tuesday when they host Olentangy Liberty.
