There is so much about the Marysville High School Athletic Hall of Fame that pertains to Monarch families.
There are a number of family connections to HOF inductees, such as mother-daughter Carol Gibson and Angela Gibson Dillahunt, siblings Gary and Mary Shirk, husband and wife Warren and Polly Widner, cousins Bryian Burson and Morgan Cotter and their uncle Jim Burson, Bill and Larry Coder and Larry and Ron Fox.
Another family connection will be made Friday evening when Shae Weiskircher Sakach is inducted into the HOF.
Sakach, a 1995 MHS graduate, is the daughter of retired Monarch head football coach Rich Weiskircher, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014.
A track and field standout, Sakach earned Ohio Capital Conference honors all four years of her high school career in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles and long jump.
She was a three-time district champion, a two-time OCC champ and a regional champion in the 100 meter hurdles.
Sakach earned berths in the state track and field meet each year of her high school career and finished sixth in the state 100 meter hurdles in 1995. In doing so, she set a school record of 14.84.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame,” said Sakach. “I’m thrilled to be joining my dad.
“He was always my biggest supporter,” she said. “He was my coach, cheerleader and trainer from the time I was a little girl.”
Although Sakach earned numerous individual track and field honors, her best memories are of being a member of a team.
“Track and field always appealed to me because you were accountable for your own success in individual events,” she said. “The harder you worked, the better you became. Being driven helped you succeed.
“However, it gave me the opportunity to not only be in an individual sport, but also be a member of an awesome team,” she said. “I really enjoyed the camaraderie of my teammates.”
Sakach continued her track and field career on the collegiate level.
She competed in the sport all four years at Miami of Ohio, where she ran the 100-meter hurdles and performed the triple jump.
“I was fortunate enough to compete in the Penn Relays during my senior year at Miami,” she said.
An account executive with Pfiser Pharmacuticals, Sakach lives in the Cincinnati area with husband Drew and 11-year-old twin daughter and son Blake and Drew.
Their children have been busy with sports of their own for several years.
“It’s soccer, basketball, volleyball, football and track,” Sakach laughed. “Between work and the kids, we keep pretty busy.”
