The Monarchs of Marysville will be moving deeper into the Ohio High School Athletic Association  boys soccer tournament after downing Watkins Memorial 3-0 on Saturday.

The first goal came around the midway point of the opening half.

The Monarchs’ backline cleared a ball deep from its own territory.

The Warriors had trouble settling the ball at their end and Sam Balderson of Marysville saw his opening when a 50/50 ball bounced between him and the Watkins’ net minder.

Balderson headed the ball over the arms of the Warriors keep to collect the first goal of the match.

The Monarchs took their 1-0 lead into the break.

The offensive dominance continued for MHS after the turn when Matthew Walters received a cross early in the second half.

Walters took a solid shot from five yards out, placing the ball in the roof of the net for the Monarchs’ second goal.

Max Brennan added the second score in the half to push the Monarchs’ goal count to three as they handled the Warriors with ease.

The Monarchs (10-1-5) will return to post-season action on Wednesday when they host Westerville Central on Wednesday.
