The Marysville girls and boys cross-country squads competed in Lancaster on Saturday during the annual Bob Reall Invitational.
The Lady Monarchs placed third out of 16 teams, beating Vinton County on a tie-breaker.
Lancaster won the event with 77 points and Dublin Coffman was the runner-up with 111.
Both MHS and Vinton County finished with 125.
Jacquelynn Witt led the Lady Monarchs with a sixth-place time of 19:56.5.
Also scoring for the girls were Katie Krueger (15th, 20:54.1), Maddie Sundquist (28th, 21:23.1), Leanne Eichorn (32nd, 21:34.5) and Kayla Michalak (44th, 22:02.2).
Lancaster won the boys meet with 41 points, easily outdistancing Worthington Kilbourne, which tallied 69.
Marysville was ninth in the 15-team race with 217.
Scoring for the Monarchs were Tristan Karnes (22nd, 17:38.4), Riley Karnes (25th, 17:47.1), Brian Boston (39th, 18:14.5), Josh Zweizig (61st, 18:52.5) and Tyler Marsh (70th, 19:03.3).
The open boys race was highlighted by John Speasmaker’s sixth-place finish in 18:48.
“The boys are still competing hard for spots in the varsity lineup,” said coach Luke Sundermeier. “Several seniors like Josh and John really stepped up at Lancaster and showed great leadership.
“A lot of freshman boys ran lifetime bests and are poised to contribute in the post-season.
“The girls ran an outstanding team race to bring home third place,” said Sundermeier. “We are still working on our pack running as the post-season approaches. Kayla is really stepping into the role of the fifth runner and working hard to pick up places late in the race.”
MHS will compete on Saturday at Washington Court House’s “Cross the Creek” Invitational.
Triad competes
Triad’s cross-country teams competed in the Max Evans Memorial Cross Country Invitational at Ohio Caverns.
The high school boys team finished 11th.
Scoring for Triad were Eli O’Brien 23rd (18:37), Andrew O’Neil 48th (19:50), Joe Ferguson 60th (20:11), Tavin Yorgason 87th (21:12), Zane Robison 114th (22:38) and Klinton Driscol 138th (25:28).
The Cardinals had one girl compete. Tabitha Gaier finished 107th (34:04).
The Triad Middle School squads also competed at the meet.
Scoring for the boys were Wyatt Robison 29th (13:24), Jacob Haser 40th (13:57) and Aaron Roy 48th (14:15).
Scoring for the girls were Shalyn Smiles 27th (14:59), Lilli James 28th (15:00), Emma Ferguson 41st (15:43), Paige Davis 43rd (15:48) and Aliandra Yorgason 60th (16:53).
The middle school girls placed eighth.
