Marysville’s girls varsity soccer squad scored early and often enroute to a 15-0 victory over Westland on Tuesday.
The contest against the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division foe was the Lady Monarchs’ Kick for the Cure (cancer) game.
MHS (5-1-3) tallied goals by Emma Armstrong and Paige Trent during the first two minutes of the contest.
The game wasn’t quite three minutes old when a goal from Kindall Duke pushed Marysville out to a 3-0 advantage.
Westland’s goalie could not keep up with the Lady Monarchs’ offensive barrage.
A score by Maddie Gognat at the 34:22 mark put MHS up by a 4-0 count.
The Cougars’ keeper was able to come up with a couple of saves over the next several minutes.
The timer read 27:53 left in the opening half when Liz Downie’s goal gave Marysville a 5-0 lead.
At that point, the running clock rule went into effect.
The Lady Monarchs tallied goals from Sydney Lee, Jenna Rioch, Caitlin Cotner and Savannah Ward to go up 9-0 with slightly more than 12 minutes left before the break.
Marysville concluded the opening half by working on its passing and possesion game.
Lady Monarch keeper Brielle Young was not overworked during the first 40 minutes.
The Cougars did not have a shot on goal during that time.
Young took several passes dropped off by Monarch teammates and sent the ball flying toward midfield as her only first-half action.
MHS turned up the scoring during the second half.
Putting in goals during the second stanza were Kassidy Lee, BB Rabe, Karleigh Sutter, Keely Baker, Chloe Riggsby and Lucy Weller.
“Last night was an opportunity for players to find themselves in different positions on the field,” said MHS head coach Nathan Andrews.
“We were fortunate enough to see all 15 players score during this game.”
Monarchs triumph
Marysville’s varsity boys (3-3-0) had very little trouble in turning back Westland, 5-0.
All of the Monarchs’ goals came during the opening half.
Scores were by Nick McIntosh, Zach McIntosh, Jack Fairman, Joey Duke and Logan Clute.
Grant Kaifas and Jeriah Hanf combined for five saves in the net for the Monarchs.
