Marysville High School’s varsity wrestling team began the Ohio Capital Conference portion of its schedule on a strong note.
The Monarchs hosted Westland on Thursday and came away with a 63-15 triumph.
MHS won 11 of the 14 weight classes, including nine by pinfalls.
“Overall, it was a good team win,” said head coach Shawn Andrews. “I felt like we won some of the toss-up matches early on because we were in better shape than Westland.
“Our home dual environments are exciting, but they can also be stressful,” he said. “It was important for our young wrestlers to respond tonight.”
Andrews was pleased that some of the younger grapplers came through. They included sophomores Nathan Thompson, Tracen Cooper, Erryl Will and Grant Marshall and freshman Josh Melms.
“They all contributed and that’s an important step this year and for the future,” said Andrews. “With the duals starting at 106, we need them to get us going and allow our upperclassmen to finish things off at the end of the dual.
“While it is important to be 1-0 in the league, we know that Dublin Coffman next week is the real test and we still have a great deal of work to do.”
Match results were as follows:
