The Marysville High School football program has two athletes listed among the top Division I players in the state of Ohio.
The Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association today announced its D-I All-Ohio teams for the 2018 season.
MHS is represented by senior offensive lineman Tyler Connolly and senior linebacker Mike Powers.
Connolly was named to the third team, while Powers earned special mention status.
Both earned All-Ohio honors as a result of their first-team selections in the Central District earlier this month.
Connolly was the top O-lineman for a squad that rushed for 2,616 yards during the 2018 campaign. The 295-pounder also had seven tackles on the defensive line.
Powers finished the season for the 5-5 Monarchs with a team-leading 148 tackles (105 solo and 43 assists). He had 23 tackles for losses and forced two fumbles.
“Both Tyler and Mike were team captains and great leaders for our program this past year,” said Monarch head coach Brent Johnson.
“Tyler had a great senior season as a player and captain of our team,” said Johnson. “Tyler is one of the toughest players I have coached. He was a great leader for our team and really led our offensive line this past year.
“Tyler also has a great understanding of the game and how to play the game,” said the coach. “He played hard and was extremely physical throughout the year. He is a very competitive player and is extremely committed to our program.”
Connolly will continue his gridiron career at the University of Akron.
“Mike has a great understanding for the game and was truly a student of the game throughout his career,” said Johnson. “Mike lived our process and for that he had a great senior year.
“I thought Mike played the game the right way,” said Johnson. “He played hard, was physical and would run through the wall for our team.”
Powers is mulling over where he will continue his football career. He currently has offers at Findlay and Urbana and preferred walk-on offers at Utah and Northwestern.
