Members of the Marysville High School football program have earned special awards for the 2018 season.
Those awards were announced today by head coach Brent Johnson.
The recipients of the Golden Lion award are seniors Mike Powers and Walker Heard.
Powers, a linebacker-running back, led the Monarchs with 148 tackles, 23 of which went for losses.
He also carried the ball 63 times and gained 492 yards as the Monarchs posted a 5-5 record. He scored five touchdowns.
Heard was MHS’ starting quarterback and also played linebacker.
He passed for more than 500 yards and rushed for more than 200.
Heard threw five touchdown passes and ran for three.
As a linebacker, he tallied 86 tackles.
Heard and Bodie Eberhart won the Hecker Homecoming award for offense.
Eberhart, also a senior, rushed for 485 yards and gained 360 on 17 pass receptions this season.
Powers and Brody Lewis earned the Homecoming honor on defense.
Lewis, a junior, played in the defensive secondary.
Senior Tyler Connolly, who will play football at the University of Akron, won the Golden Pancake award as the team’s top offensive lineman.
Connolly anchored a line for an offensive unit that rushed for 2,616 yards.
Senior Ethan Smegal was named the squad’s top defensive lineman. That honor earned him the Hammer Award.
Smegal finished the season with 30 tackles.
A number of Monarchs also earned Ohio Capital Conference Central Division accolades.
They were:

-Powers (Player of the Year), Heard and Eberhart;
Second-team
-Connolly, Smegal and offensive/defensive lineman Ian Johnson;
Special mention
-Running back/linebacker Chase Kilgore;
Honorable mention
-Receiver/defensive back Mike Bonczak;
Scholar Athlete
-Offensive/defensive lineman Ben Warden.
