The Monarchs of Marysville clawed their way to a 77-65 victory at Westland on Friday to improve their record to 6-7.
The Monarch got out the gate with some nice shooting to pick up 16 points.
Gabe Schaffer and Phillip Hughes accounted for 10 points between them.
Westland was able to take the early lead, though, outscoring the Monarchs 18-16.
The second quarter was more of the same as the Cougars were able to hold on to a slim lead with some solid inside work.
Westland held a 34-31 edge at the turn, but the Monarchs did the bulk of their heavy lifting during the third quarter.
MHS’ three-point shooters made their presence known as they drained five shots from beyond the arc.
Jack Christian lit up the net with two deep shots while Hughes, Joey Duke and Schaeffer each added a trey.
In doing so, they helped the Monarchs take the lead after the third quarter by a score of 56-51.
In the final stanza, Marysville was able to hold on to the lead with some decent shooting from the free-throw line (4-of-7) to seal the win.
The Monarchs will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Franklin Heights.

Panthers perfect
in OHC
Fairbanks’ boys kept their Ohio Heritage Conference record perfect with a 47-40 victory at Greeneview.
The Panthers led, 17-11, at the end of the first quarter when the Rams hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Greeneview again connected from beyond the arc right before halftime to pull to within 26-20.
FHS (which is 10-2 overall and 10-0 in the OHC) held a 39-31 lead by the end of the third set.
The Rams scored the first seven markers of the final quarter and narrowed the gap to 39-38.
The Panthers, who are scheduled to travel to Benjamin Logan tonight, took advantage of the charity stripe to win the game.
The victory was sealed when Cross Hackathorne and Mason Smith hit key free throws down the stretch.
