Jack Christian was the winning pitcher as Marysville High School’s baseball team beat Westerville North, 5-1, on Monday.
The road victory came for the 31st-seeded Monarchs over the No. 20 Warriors during the Division I sectional semifinals.
Christian picked up the victory by pitching 6 2/3 innings.
He yielded just three hits and struck out six.
The Monarchs tagged Westerville North pitching for five hits.
Christian, Ashton Schmutz, Christian Colvin, RJ Thornton and Chase Storr each had one hit for the Monarchs (13-14).
Schmutz’s hit was a home run.
Storr and Bailey Wade each drove in runs.
“We did everything offensively, defensively and pitching we needed to win a post-season game,” said Marysville head coach Nick Blake.
“It doesn’t matter how you get it done this time of year,” he said. “You just survive and advance.”
The Monarchs will return to tournament action on Wednesday.
They will once again hit the road and play at No. 13 Watkins Memorial.
The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
