Marysville High School athletic officials have put out the “Help Wanted” sign for a new boys head track and field coach.
J.B. Ritchie, who has coached in the MHS track and field program for the past 15 years, recently announced his retirement from coaching, according to athletic director Ryan Walker.
The position was posted as being open on the school district’s web site on Monday.
Walker was asked what qualifications he is looking for in a new coach.
“Obviously, we’d like someone with experience in coaching track and field and who has general knowledge of it,” he said. “We’d also like to find someone, if possible, who already has a familiarity with our program.
“Track and field is a sport that takes a lot of time,” said Walker. “We are looking for someone who would be willing to devote as much time and passion to it as coach Ritchie did.”
Ritchie served as a Monarch assistant coach for a number of years before taking over as the boys head coach.
Luke Sundermeier, who is the girls head coach, will remain in that position.
Over the past few years Ritchie, who is a teacher at Bunsold Middle School, and Sundermeier, who is a teacher at Marysville High School, basically co-coached the boys and girls teams.
“Track and field is not two totally different programs,” said Walker, adding that all of the MHS track coaches helped with both teams.
Ritchie could not be reached for comment by presstime.
Walker said there is no deadline for applications and the position will remain open until it is filled.
