Marysville High School sophomore Mack Weithman set a new school record during Hilliard Darby’s Division I district track and field meet on Saturday.
Weithman broke an eight-year-old MHS boys standard for the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:17.70.
That erased the previous mark of 4:19.33 set by Alec Sandusky.
Sandusky went on to become an NCAA All-American at Northern Kentucky and the University of Cincinnati.
He is currently a professional runner with the Brooks Running Club in Michigan.
Weithman placed fourth and was one of several Monarch athletes to advance to this week’s regional meet at Pickerington North High School.
The regional will be conducted on Wednesday and Friday.
The top four placers in each district event will compete in the regional.
