The North Union softball team claimed a crucial victory in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division on Monday.
The Lady Cats toppled Indian Lake 8-1, thanks to solid hitting that claimed early runs and sustained the Cats through six innings.
The Lady Cats found hits early in the first inning, leading to four runs.
NU continued the landslide, plating a single run in the second and third for a 6-0 lead.
Indian Lake was able to string together enough offense in the top of the fourth to score its lone run.
North Union answered in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs to advance its margin to 8-1.
Reese DeGood, who started on the rubber for North Union, kept the Lakers quiet through the next three innings.
She pitched a complete game.
DeGood allowed eight hits and fanned three as NU improved to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the Mad River Division.
The Lady Cats have a three-game lead in the division over Benjamin Logan.
Laine Sparks went one-for-three at the plate with a trio of RBIs.
Regan Martino had a two-for-three day and drove in a run, while Kayla Sedgwick went .500 at the plate and came around the base paths for two runs.
The Lady Cats are scheduled to return to CBC action against Northwestern today. If NU can pick up the win, the Cats will be the Mad River Division champs.

Wildcats fall to Indian Lake in extra innings
The North Union baseball team found a way to claw its way back into contention for a victory over Central Buckeye Conference foe Indian Lake.
However, an extra inning made all the difference as the Lakers pulled off a 7-4 win in eight frames.
The Lakers earned early success against NU’s Evan Hoffer on the mound.
They plated a pair of runs in the first inning.
Indian Lake strung together additional offense in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.
North Union answered with its first run in the bottom of the third inning,
The Cats clawed their way back to a 3-3 game with runs in the fourth and sixth.
North Union coach Klarke Ransome called on Richie Bolander to take over on the mound in the top of the seventh.
Bolander gave up a single run, but the Wildcats answered in the bottom of the inning to push the contest to extra frames.
Bolander returned to the hill where the Lakers stung the pitcher for three runs.
John Hughes came on in relief to get the Cats out of the jam.
NU wasn’t able to respond at the plate as they gave up the victory.
Chris Isler had a one-for-two day at the plate, driving in a pair of runs.
Grayson Beeney went one-for-four with an RBI, while Trevyn Feasel had a two-for-four day.
North Union is scheduled to return to action today at Northwestern.
