North Union may have clinched the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division girls hoop title, but it is far from done with the 2021-22 season.
The Lady Cats defeated St. Paris Graham 50-20 to secure the league crown and picked up their 16th win in 18 games.
They are 8-0 in league play.
It is North Union’s second CBC title in three years, but head coach Bre Jackson said there is still work to be done in the regular season.
“This win secured the league for us, but we still have two more (league) games to go and get,” Jackson said. “League champion has a nice ring to it, but undefeated league champion sounds much sweeter.”
North Union hosts Northwestern on Wednesday and then travels to Urbana on Saturday to conclude the league season.
In its win over Graham, North Union jumped out to a 13-4 lead after one quarter of play and upped the margin to 27-14 at the half.
The Lady Cats dominated the second half, outscoring the Falcons 23-6.
“It was another overall team effort as the players showed up to play their part,” Jackson said. “We played solid defense in the first half, which let us build a lead.
“We controlled the boards to limit their chances of scoring.”
North Union’s three-point shooting was also key to the victory. The Lady Cats were nine-of-21 from behind the arc.
Zoe Wedding led the way with three treys and finished with a game-high 13 points.
Jada Davis totaled 12 points, which included two three-point goals.
Davis also had nine rebounds and three steals, while Wedding counted five assists.
North Union scored just four points in the first and third quarters in the junior varsity game.
It notched 29 markers in the other two quarters to earn a 33-30 victory.
Allison Price scored 17 points to pace the Lady Cats.
