A North Union High School coach has been disciplined for an incident that occurred during the boys basketball season on Jan. 26.
Brian Terrill, the Wildcats head hoop boss, was given a formal letter of reprimand by the district’s administration for an incident that occurred during a practice.
The 18-year coach was speaking with his players about team loyalty and used a “Swiss Army Knife” as a prop to demonstrate his feelings on the topic.
“He had the knife out earlier to cut open boxes and put it in his pocket,” said North Union Superintendent Rich Baird. “In talking to the kids, he said something along the lines of he would rather gouge his eyes out than be unfaithful to his wife.”
Baird went on to say that Terrill takes team loyalty very seriously to his wife, friends or teammates.
“I think that was the essence of what he was saying, which was an inappropriate conversation,” Baird said. “He was given a letter of reprimand.”
Terrill has been a head coach coach for both the girls and boys basketball teams at North Union.
He has amassed more than 200 wins for the Wildcats.
Terrill did not reply to an e-mail message from the Journal-Tribune.
