The North Union softball continues to show its strength in the Central Buckeye Conference after beating Urbana 15-3 on Monday.
The victory improves the Lady Cats’ record to 5-2.
NU found itself in an early hole as the Lady Hill Climbers jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Lady Cats answered in the second inning by crossing the plate five times to take a 5-1 lead after the second inning.
Both pitchers gave up runs in the third inning.
Bailee Amstutz, who earned the win, was inside the circle for the Cats.
Urbana tagged her for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 7-3.
North Union plated four runs against Urbana’s Marah Donahoe to extend its lead to 11-3.
NU added four runs in the top of the seventh to extend the lead past the 10-run spread to end the game.
Regan Martino went two-for-five at the plate with a homer and three RBIs.
Cagney Stewart also hit a long ball, going three-for-four, with three RBIs.
Candace Halloway also drove in three runs with a two-for-three day at the plate.
The Lady Cats are scheduled to return to action today in a CBC make-up game at Kenton Ridge.

NU’s baseball squad didn’t find the same kind of success against Urbana, falling 10-7.
Each team turned in two-run efforts after the first inning, but the Cats pulled out to a 5-3 lead after the second.
The gap stayed at two runs after each side notched one run in the third inning.
The wheels fell off of the Wildcats’ pitching in the fourth inning when Urbana tagged Trevyn Feasel for four runs and an 8-6 lead.
NU coach Klarke Ransome called on freshman Mason Bright in relief during the fifth.
He was able to hold Urbana scoreless in that frame.
The Cats made up one run in the top of the sixth, but Urbana answered in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs against Bright.
That bumped the score to 10-7, where the game ended.
Feasel had a perfect day at the plate, going four-for-four, and driving in four RBIs. Aaron Krebehenne turned in a two-for-four effort, while Evan Hoffer added an RBI.
The Wildcats are now 1-6 for the season and are scheduled to return to action Wednesday to close out their series against Urbana.
